WTF is the deal with Wolverine and underage girls?

Seriously. What's that all about?

Kitty Pryde
Jubilee
Amiko (Logan's adopted daughter)
Rachel Summers
Rogue (at least, the movie version)
X23 (if she becomes a regular character)

Plus, there've been others, right? I know I'm forgetting at least one, and probably more. What is the deal with this hairy, rough-hewn old man becoming a magnet for all of these vulnerable younger women? Is it a father figure thing? Repressed feelings of pedophilia on the writers' part? Stereotypical thinking? Lack of originality?

What is it?

Young women dig that manly hairy muscly thing. Since I have a goatee and longish hair, I can't keep those young girls off of me!

Wolverine is like 200 years old!!! His powers let him age slowly...really has no relevance to the issue at hand, but really the real question is what is the deal with all these young girls going after a ageless psycho path that kills on impulse!!!?? Thing to make you go...hmmmmm....

Father figure...he never wanted to pork Kitty, Jubilee and the like, nor vice versa. Except in Ultimate X-Men with Jean(who is a teenager)...after he messed with Cyclops though she put him in his place, and told him she'd disconnect his brain stem if he even so much as had a thought about her again.

But don't you think it odd that, time and time again, the folks at Marvel keep pairing old man Logan up with these young girls? Don't you find that just a little creepy, Omni?

Why? It's not romantic or sexual on either party's side. Kitty was never sexually interested in Wolverine, neither was Jubilee, nor Rachel(hell she wanted to KILL HIM after he nearly killed her to stop her from killing Selene), nor movie Rogue(she bonded with Bobby, and movie Wolverine was after Jean)....the other two I haven't read so I won't comment. At any rate, the only semi-taboo age gap things I remember off hand are Kitty and Colossus(she was 13 and he was 19), but it was mainly a crush on her part and things didn't progress until later...and Psylocke and Doug Ramsey(from the New Mutants), there was some issue when they were naked together, or at least she was naked(covering with a towel).

How dare you sully the partnership of Wolverine/Jubliee... the book kicked ass in those days IMO....

Jubilee was an orphan, an angry young girl quickly losing her innocence. Wolverine saw similarities with his own life and tried to protect Jubilee from becoming hardened by life.

Rogue was a kindred spirit. Never wanting to back down from a fight. She was alone and closed off like Wolverine.

X23 for much the same reasons as Rogue I would guess. I've avoided Claremont since his second run on X-Men titles.

Kitty was the baby so being the noble protector Wolverine is he naturally looked out for her. The difference between her and Jubilee was that Jubilee was a bit more edgy and troubled.

I don't think you guys are getting it, or maybe I didn't make myself clear from the start. I'm not really asking about this within the context of the overall story; I get all of that, though one could argue that possessive tendencies exhibited by some of these young women could stem from repressed sexual feelings towards their mentor, or that there's something sexually motivated in Logan's psyche that compels him to form close, protective relationships with these girls.

What I'm asking is, why do the writers keep doing this? What motivates them to continually pair Wolverine with underage, vulnerable young girls?

Because it helps soften his image as just a mindless animalistic killing machine...it shows a paternal side, it shows he cares yet when the ones he cares about are threatened, he's still able to unleash and go nuts(after all, trying to kill a teenage girl pretty much means all bets are off). It also gives the girls a sense of security. Anyway, Kitty had as close as if not closer bond with Storm....so now Storm's a pedophic lesbian?(Or rather Claremont has a thing for mixed-race woman-on-girl HLA?). Or rather does it humanize Storm a bit, make her less of a goddess, less of a leader, less of a warrior, and shows her nurturing side? I don't think there's any consipracy on the matter. I'm more annoyed at the "Crazy bitch syndrome" thing....powerful females in comics are way more likely to end up dead or depowered because writers always insist on making them unable to cope with their power.

Wolverine is a noble man and a true protector.

One might ask why the writers keep introducing weak, vulnerable female characters.

Dude, I don't think there's anything wrong with the writers.

You on the other hand are never going to come within a hundred meters of my daughter, when and if I should have one.

Actually, the last two issues of Ultimate Spider-Man were about Spidey and Wolverine switching brains, and it turns out that because Wolvy thought about Jean again, she put his mind "in his most undesireable place." Which was in Parker's body.

Cool, go Jean! I've only read the first 48 or so issues of Ultimate X-Men and not a lick of USM...thanks for the tidbit.

BastardSamurai neglected to mention that while he was in Peter's body, Logan did (or tried to do) something with MJ that she doesn't want to do again "until they're a little older." Hmmm, I wonder what that could be...

Because the 13-year-old kids who want to be Wolverine don't want to date their mom.

As if 13 year-olds read comic books anymore. :lol

You're absolutely right. They abandoned comics for video games years ago. But the mentality still remains.
