WW84 - Not What I Expected

Just finished WW84 with the family and wow, that was a major blast from the past. I did not expect what I saw. So many twists and references to old material, but also a fresh take.

I’m a big fan of the comics and they just did a simply fantastic job recreating the comic feel but with a sharp wit and tone. Tons of subtext to be had if that’s your thing.

I geeked out over quite a few reveals...
Asteria, Golden Armor, Wonder Woman Flying, Invisible Jet, Lynda Carter

I signed up for HBO Max for this and it’s well worth it.

I really am excited for the JL Extended Cut, WW 3 (whatever the name ends up being), and more from Patti and Snyder and Co.

*I didn’t see a WW84 thread yet and ideally wanted to post a general positive or negative take on it; no spoilers

Too many plot holes, had that Ghostbusters 2016 every man in the movie is a bad guy vibe. The 80s theme was wasted with cliche garbage.

BUT. Steve was the best part of the movie. He carried it for me.

And the Media saying Max was Trump was nonsense. They are just seeing Trump in everything.

The movie does NOTHING to move forward the DCEU. Considering it was a prequel to the others somehow only complicates it. DC really needs to fire all of their writers. Considering Snyder was an executive producer is only fitting. Everyone calling for the Snyder Cut must have forgotten BVS.

I thought it would be SJW trash but it is not. Just a middling flick that is ok if you watch with friends/family.

The Donner cut reuses the ending of the first movie (because that was originally the ending to the second before they made it the end of the first). So if you watch the Donner cut after the first movie, then Superman spins the Earth backwards twice.

Yes, I get that and the context. It's not a replacement for the theatrical Superman II but more of a what if.

There are millions of whiny 5-year olds on Earth, and I AM THEIR KING.
It was a huge disappointment. I enjoyed the first one, but I could hardly stomach this one. I feel robbed out of my time. The first action scene with Wonder Woman in the mall sets a cringe absurd tone that it somehow kept through the rest of the movie.

It was still much better than Captain Marvel, but it is almost too close to that level of bad.

Thought it was just an average super hero flick. Was kinda disappointed as I thought the first one was great and did so much with it's setting whereas this wasted the setting. I'm also not really a fan of the nerd or weak or downtrodden gets power and goes megalomaniac and they played that to the max.

It was pretty long, felt like a director's cut. Which kind of makes sense now directors dont have to worry about cinema run-times.

Dune will probably be 7 hours long.

Guys, we live in a world of oversaturation and satiety. How can you expect anything to be something breath-taking, awe-inspiring, and jaw-dropping?
Most people have overblown and inflated expectations when going in to see a movie or plunge themselves into a game. They don't take into account the fact the companies and studios churn out shit just to make dough and stay in business. The important thing is that a movie/game sells and generated sales so that money is made to meet the production costs and marketing costs. That's the name of the game.

From the title I had assumed this movie was going to be about one that can take three cocks at once. After watching the Angry Joe review a little while ago, I now understand this not to be the case. I'm not surprised people like the OP are disappointed with it.

+Music was nice at certain points.
+Maxwell Lord was actually a interesting villain, in a jarring contrast to piss take Lex Luthor.

-Plot was bloated and should have been cut in half. You use this amount of screentime for a Justice League or Avengers movie, not a solo film.
-Terrible CGI in the year 2020 has absolutely no excuse. The television shows the Expanse and Mandalorian look far better. Game of Thrones certainly did (its own horrific failings aside.) James Cameron's Avatar still blows most of these Hollywood CGI fests out of the water. Hell the original Jurassic Park, Terminator 2 and LotR trilogy do too.

WW1984 is not quite as outright horrible as shit like Catwoman or Batman and Robin but its still terrible. Really disappointing after Wonder Women, Aquaman and Shazam looked to be turning things around for DC.

Maxwell Lord, Cheetah and Wonder Woman were all experiencing different '80s movie plots simultaneously across the course of a film both too long and not long enough to do any of the three plots proper justice.

LMAO. Come on.

This was not better than Captain Marvel. Narrative, acting and cinematography are so superior in Captain Marvel that a comparison between the two is unfair. Wonder Woman 1984 suffers from Gal Gadot’s wooden performance, a lack of emotional gravity, and a poorly done balancing act between seriousness and camp.

Not a huge fan of the MCU, but Marvel was enjoyable.

Honestly I thought this was the worst super hero movie I've seen in a long time. Basically a high budget Cat Woman movie. 2 and a half hours of my life I'll never get back

Overall I enjoyed it because I didn’t take it too seriously. But there are tons of problems with it with tons of holes. But loved just looking at Wonder Woman in action. She really nailed the Wonder Woman look from comic to live action for me

Is it the Ragnarok of the DCU?

No; it's not as funny or epic. It honestly isn't even as good as the first Wonder Woman, but most sequels aren't as good as their predecessor.

However, it's still a good movie. It's intentionally hokey and cheesy but also suspenseful. It has both light-hearted action and serious action. And it has stylish cinematography that makes it look as if it were shot in the 1980s but with modern effects.

Honestly I loved it despite all of the plot holes. It was a throwback to Christopher Reeve style comic book movies and that is what I liked about it. Over the top villains, super heroes that are actually heroes and not mutants on anti-depresants. And of course Pine who carries these films.

I don't think that Pine carries this film; Gal Godot certainly does the carrying this time around.

it was alright, I liked the first film better. I wouldn't watch it over roughly a dozen plus other super hero flicks I can name but I know another dozen i wouldn't watch before I watched WW84
