Any reason given for the second another double elimination in a row?

Budget cuts?

Speaking of budgets, I fully expect a more modest production for the second season. Because sound editing aside, this season was clearly backed up by the assumption that it'll pull 20+ million viewers.

Running out of time. Show finale was set for December like 23rd or 24th or something way back when the season started.

Baseball helped delay that a bit more and they have to do double eliminations to catch up.

So no.. Not budget cuts..

One trick pony, yes. A stable of race horses? You gtfoh right now. Melanie is guaranteed some level of success at the next level. Josh and Rachel would have to be in the right situations. Chris and Marcus? Pffftwahahaha


I can't wait to see the meltdowns in this thread when Rachel is in the final 3, maybe even final 2 with Melanie (which is where I had those two from the start of the voting rounds).

Pretty sure his success rate with artists is severely overestimated. I could see Kanye signing him but we'll see.
 
Wow, I didn't even notice that the first time. Now we know why he's so bland - he has no capacity for emotion. A girl is breaking down on stage, her dreams crushed, and he wants it to be all about him.

The funny thing is that before Cheryl got sacked, Steve and Nicole were supposed to be co-hosts. The only person on the show less genuine than Steve happens to be Nicole. Imagine the two of them...together...hosting. Disaster.

Yup like I pointed out earlier, while everyone was saying goodbye to astro, he said "Lets get the hugs out of the way so I can talk to him" . What a prick.

Kelly Rowland has been pretty good on X factor UK this season I think. Simon should replace Nicole with her next season.
 
Yep, Astro wasn't mad at being eliminated as he got signed by Roc Nation. I ain't even mad anymore. Nothing really interesting on X-Factor any more though.
 
I saw that, but that's not how I interpreted his gesture. I thought he was just confused by the breakdown and threw his hands in frustration at the awkward scene. The girl was bawling out loud.

But the guy is a robot, so anything is possible.

I do feel that Paula / Nicole's decision to cut Drew wasn't fair. Marcus being on the bottom week after week, as well as the first episodes painting the female judges as being biased against female performers does seem to fall into play here. Even LA, who is obligated to vote for his own guy, appeared at least conflicted by his choice.

Didn't see it mentioned here, but apparently some people on twitter are taking their opinions too far. Paula and Nicole are getting some pretty crazy tweets that could be interpreted as death threats, according to TMZ:

It did seem like they made a decision out of cattiness instead of who they actually felt should leave the show.

Anyhow, it'll be a travesty if Marcus stays yet another week, unless he pulls off a miracle performing. It's starting to become too obvious that America doesn't want him there.

Marcus and Chris Renee! I have no idea why both of them are still in the competition. One of them is a fake Usher, and the other guy sounds like he belongs in the early 90s.

Marcus pisses me off with his fake smile. You can tell how hard he tries to keep it up.
 
I just got around to watching this today, and I think I'm done with the show this season. I want Josh to win now, but I know he won't. The fact that the hate from the women is so obvious toward anything Simon is off putting. At least tie the vote like he did last week, and let America decide if you're really that spiteful. Drew destroyed Marcus in the save song, and Marcus is just gonna be there again next week, so meh.

I looked at the tweets and apparently has to do with the UK Show. Their finals are this weekend and HMV is already selling one of the finalists 'winning single'

Josh and Melanie can really knock this challenge out of the park if they're given dance beats that they can belt over club-remix style.
 
That was a good-but-boring vocal from Melanie, as usual. I need her to give me some excited before I can really be down with her. I want more than just a competent vocal from her, but hell with this crop of "talent" just getting a competent vocal is something.

The sound engineers need to be fired, though. It really drowned her out even though she was belting at the top of her lungs.
 
Melanie (#1): A-

Chancy song choice, but it was set in the perfect key to allow Melanie's large voice to come alive during the end. Too short, though....but I imagine that most of the songs will be over quickly since we've got 9 more to go. We're probably not going to have a chance to really "get into" any of the songs tonight.
 
Marcus (#1): A-

Great song choice. He managed to capture the "I just want to get up and dance even thought that isn't really me" part of him that I know is just wanting to jump out. A few shaky notes in the beginning, but that was great overall. He took that short amount of time to sing and gave a strong performance. And it wasn't manic, which plagues a lot of contestants when they have to be uptempo in a small allotment of time.
 
Marcus seems like the most natural dance performer. It wasn't bad but I still want him to go home because I can't envision him having a worthwhile career...I dunno.
 
That was horrible to me (singing) and a injustice to Shaka Khan. Dancing and stage presence was good.

I guess judges colluded to be nice to each other and let the fans votes from now on.
 
Rachael (#1): B+

Not as entertaining as the 1st two, but at least it was more in-key this time. It kind of fell flat once she hit the chorus again, but again....it was decent and fun.
 
Josh:

Wow, his face isn't greasy which is good. But the hair is. And the leather jacket combined with how he's crouching in it makes him look homeless.

As for the performance, he wasn't into at all and it showed. He didn't even try. He was walking back and forth on the stage like he had to use the bathroom.

Least favorite performance by him.
 
Josh (#1): B+

THESE SONGS ARE TOO DAMN SHORT. Anyways, once again, great song choice. Unlike L.A., I "bought" it (hell, Adele's didn't originally release "Someone Like You" as a dance track, but she made it work and it's played all the time on the radio). He did a good job combining his style with something that he was probably a little more uncomfortable with. He didn't move at all and that probably prevented a more enjoyable, spirited vocal; he could have been "into" it more.
