Well, Kelly's completely overshadowed the whole judging table and become the de facto HBIC. Poor girl's gotta do something to stand out.Sol.. said:poor lady in black completely janked that first clap. That shit was almost as amazing as the singing.
The dilemma with both American Idol and X-Factor during the audition stages is that the shows have an identity crisis. They want to parade a bunch of tone-deaf freaks on stage in between all of the people with genuine talent and it just kills any flow to the show... especially when they bury most of the people who can actually sing in one-minute montages or... worse yet... exclude them altogether.Koodo said:It really was a terrible episode. Even if Miami was chock full of crap, they had a 1ish minute montage of good singers. Should've shown each of the singers in that montage individually instead of giving us yet another nutcase.
I don't see tonight's ratings improving from yesterday.

I agree with everything else you said, but this: is it fair to be calling Steve Jones a dud this early? The audition format of X Factor makes his role as host almost an afterthought. I'd say the live show will be the deciding factor on whether he's any good or not.UberTag said:The real problem for X-Factor is Steve Jones. He's a complete and total dud right now. Nothing but vapid eye candy devoid of any personality when it comes to interacting with the contestants or the TV audience. When even phony suckup ex-Canadian Idol host Ben Mulroney puts you to shame, you've got a serious problem.
I think it's perfectly fair because it doesn't have to be an afterthought. Seacrest engages the contestants, their families and the TV audience during the audition phase of Idol and has actual conversations with them.Koodo said:I agree with everything else you said, but this: is it fair to be calling Steve Jones a dud this early? JonathanEx said:That's the problem. X Factor isn't actually a singing contest, showcasing talent - it's a camp, over the top ridiculous, overproduced show that whips people in to its little world. It's not like The Voice. X Factor pretends it's a serious contest but it's done in a way that slightly undermines itself.
When it does the boombastic text on screen IT'S TIME TO FACE THE MUSIC, that's supposed to be read out by a voiceover man with a certain degree of ridiculousness despite the epicness it tries to portray.
The rubbish participants from the auditions come back to sing as a group for pointing and laughing at the end.
Louis Walsh is a judge.
The show's finalists included Wagner and Jedward. Entertaining, maybe, but not the high class of British vocal talent.
Go on YouTube and watch videos of Wagner and Jedward. The X-Factor has always been more about the judges rivalry, overblown spectacle and manufactured drama than talent, no matter what they say.UberTag said:The dilemma with both American Idol and X-Factor during the audition stages is that the shows have an identity crisis. It's hard to take the show seriously. And while American Idol may be able to get away with it due to being an established brand in North America, X-Factor should have lived up to its $5 million billing and left all that shit on the cutting room floor.

The show does have a couple things going for it. Three of the four judges are pretty darn good. Nicole's a waste right now but perhaps she'll grow into the role over time instead of acting 10 years younger than her age. Cowell, Paula and L.A. are all better than any of the AI judges... with the possible exception of J-Lo when she's not feigning tears. Randy Jackson is well past his expiration date and needs to be sent out to pasture with WWE's Jerry Lawler. Steven Tyler is well... Steven Tyler. It would be silly to expect him to be anything else.

Yep, I'm done. I hate everything about it.jett said:I gave this show a good fighting chance, but this is enough for me. Awful contestants, awful manufactured drama, everything feels fake as shit, and Nicole is just too stupid to bear.
Fucking thing sucks.
Spiffy_1st said:Someone I know was in the audience a few years back and said that the people they show in the episodes are the only people actually 'auditioning', the crowds of people during the intros are mostly the audience. They've all already gone through an auditioning process to see if they're funny/good enough to be on the show, the only real part is the judges reactions, yet they're all obviously played up for the cameras.
I don't know if the US version does it, but this series of the UK version shows the 'good' people getting ready in the morning and on their way to the audition. That alone shows how planned out it all is.

I mean, it has Simon Cowell, and the audience is better than no audience.

Wow, someone can't sing. Let's invite ten thousand people and set up a giant stadium so we can see him not sing well on a giant stage

It's not a flop yet. Its Thursday ratings (4.3) were better than the Wednesday results (4.1). Viewership usually plunges after a pilot or holds slightly steady, so any sign of growth is going to make FOX happy for now.06nbarnhill said:Same.
The ratings that were less than half of idols last season make me happy. Nice flop Cowell.
Well I think the problem is that Idol premieres in January when there's literally nothing new on, but XF is competing with the season premieres of multiple established shows.Leona Lewis said:It's not a flop yet. If we get a Jedward this season, the show will be in trouble. I don't think American audiences (the Jersey Shore crowd aside) would feel they're in on the joke (because it's not funny at all after one week let alone six), plus it diminishes the magnitude of the $5 million prize. This show needs a legitimate star in its first season like Kelly Clarkson to carry any legitimacy moving forward.
