Two comments:

One, that Pepsi commercial is all kinds of awesome.

Two, why does the theme song sound so similar to the one for America's Got Talent? No originality at all... not memorable in the slightest.

Overall, I am liking the show a lot.

Someone should tell those terrible kids that "Anser" is already trademarked. Its a golf club.

Young homie needs to stay out of his falsetto.

Is this even a singing competition? Brooklyn Mom was the only truly great singer. The only one.

Entertaining show though, I'm liking the format better compared to Idol.

Not sure what to think of this yet. Auditions were pretty boring. A couple good singers, but I was surprised at some of the people they let move on already. It feels like it's just too easy to move on compared to Idol. Auditions are also less entertaining than Idol too. Add on that this was a full two hours, and it just went on too long for me for one sitting. If the rest of the auditions are going to be like this, I'll probably just wait to the second phase begins. It's just too long and dull to sit through.

Didn't see the whole episode, but from what I saw, for me for you, it was just aight.

Also I wish they kept Cheryl.

I lived in the same halfway house as Chris Rene like six years ago. Never thought he was anything special, and definitely thought he was douchebag. I still see him around. Still think he's a douchebag.

For comparison's sake, the first episode of American Idol did EXTREMELY well, given that it debuted in the summer of 2002 and Randy Jackson and Simon Cowell were relatively unknown to American audiences back then. It attracted 9.9 million viewers and grew the next day by 12% to 11 million viewers, even though it was opposite the NBA Finals that night.

Tonight's episode of The X-Factor is going to be extremely telling. Will it grow or will it start with an early decline. And by how much?

Given how high the bar was set, X-Factor hasn't been too impressive out of the gate. Simon left Idol thinking that the show would fizzle and die without him......which didn't happen. The Simon-less Idol held steady and opened with 26 million viewers.

I'd think one of these shows will have to go. This is reminding me of the primetime gameshow boom born out of Millionaire's success. XF should do well, considering that it pretty different from the Sing-Off and I don't believe the two shows air at the same time. It'll be interesting to see how The Voice does against Idol. Summer ratings are a different game from crowded fall and spring TV seasons.

Will this show be over by the time Idol starts?

Yes

Spring: American Idol (FOX), The Voice (NBC)
Summer: America's Got Talent (NBC)
Fall: X Factor (FOX), The Sing-Off (NBC)

Then minor ones on cable, but not sure when they are. Great time to be an unsigned singer in America.

Clearly the real "X-Factor" is this guy...

What? You thought I was going to say Randy Jackson? He's TERRIBLE.

When Ryan talks you pay attention, get invested in the singers and remember to tune in the next night.

Judging by the comments during last night's episode, when Steve Jones talks you tune out the show entirely, get lost in his eyes and don't respond to anything he says.

This is not the reaction you want from a host. In an article from today's Daily Mail, Jones has been called out as "utterly irrelevant".

Thought I would hate this show, but I actually liked it....a lot. I won't watch this show by myself, but my gaffer friends record the show, so I'll watch it at his house on a weekly basis. It'll be interesting to see how this show turns out.

Also, meth dude, I would've said no. I'm assuming he won because of his originality (his own piece). I'm expecting him to get back on the meth during the season. I can feel this in my soul.

Tonight's prediction: There will be a series of bad auditions, Simon and the other judges will be all crisis-y and go "I don't think there's anything good here..." with some emergency producery talks but then the next person on stage BLOWS THEM AWAY WITH THEIR BEAUTIFUL VOICE

Oh and the last person is going to be sob-story amazing again

You mean thats how it will be edited.

LOLOLOL at this guy. They sucked. "Get me out of here"

Are you suggesting that this show is edited to fit a formula? That's a pretty surprising allegation. X Factor wouldn't be the top show on British TV with such blatant fakery going on.

OMG

Surprised they showed an average act. It's usually lol-worthy or awesome acts.

But I can see why they don't show average acts more. So awkward and painful to watch that.

Simon is boring... Where's the impeccable insults delivered with scalpel like precision and soul crushing Force?

He's nicer on X Factor UK. I think a lot of his crankiness in his last seasons on idol was because he wanted to bring over XF so badly.

What is Simon bitching about right now? I have my headphones on and wasn't really paying attention

Edit: oh this is happening, lol

shaved eyebrow.

I didn't like that guy's vocals at all. I'm kind of confused if they're looking for legitimate talent or someone they can groom to sell out shows.

They were desperate to finally get someone
