Oh, Mel. At least try and let there be a competition. Have mercy.

That said, Chris' 2nd song made me forget about every other non-Mel performance. He slayed and would sell ridiculous records.

Chris ain't doin' nothing for me.

Best part of the night was Steve. LOL it was hilarious as he transitioned from Nicole to Paula. I don't get the hate for the guy.

Chris Rene had a good original song, my only issue was the lyrics were not varied enough.

Am I the only one here who likes Chris? So much hate up in here! Based on that second thing I think he could have a Jason Mraz type career.

Rachel has to go tonight, right? The other four all had at least one strong performance. I was worried about Josh after song #1 but he killed it with #2.

Yeah, I think Marcus redeemed himself and Chris showed us a new side of himself as an artist (not to sound all Kara Dioguaoqi930-ish). Interesting comparison with Mraz, didn't think about that. Josh and Melanie remained consistent despite some questionable first-song choices. Rachel on the other hand has been stagnant for weeks and I don't see anything changing that.

God, I can't wait until Leona guest performs later this month and delivers all of us to heaven.

I'm convinced Rachel will be top 2 now. She's money in the bank, the surest profit there is. I think Josh is going home, but I hope it's Chris and then Marcus.

The thing I like about Chris is that he seems genuinely grateful for all of the opportunities he's had as a result of the show. It looked like he was gonna cry during the judge's comments.

I also think his second song redeemed him to me. Until that point I was thinking why is this guy still in the competition.

Now I'm thinking Rachel's got to go (even though I started off really liking her with her renditions of If I was a Boy and I Want it That Way...)

Really? I think she'd be one of the least commercial, how many chart-topping 13 year-olds are there?

You're not the only one. After careful consideration I like him now, too.

After that last performance, he proved to me that he clearly has the most radio potential of anyone left on the show. If he stays clean, that is. While his sound is rough live, I can totally see him making songs in a studio environment that girls would just eat up. You were right on with that Mraz comparison. And I swear, halfway through that second performance he gave the camera a look that would have made my panties melt if I ever bothered to wear any. He showed star quality and stage presence I didn't believe he was capable of.

I love Josh, and I appreciate Melanie's talent. But only within the context of this show. In reality, right now I can think of more than 10 acts - current acts - that are just like them. Vocally they aren't representing anything that the market isn't already saturated with. Same goes for Marcus. I'm not counting Rachel because, outside of Disney, nobody wants what she's sellin.

Chris is the only one I see making music that would not only be current, but different from what anybody else is doing.

She's about to turn 14 and she'd be near 15 by the time an album would drop, I'd think. Her personality is childlike but they don't have her up there singing If You're Happy and You Know It, so she's not pigeonholed into that category just yet (though if she loses here and Disney signs her then she'll probably get a show and do the whole teen starlet thing).

Bieber was 14 when he got signed, and at the time I don't think there was much precedent at all for an early teen solo act like that, and we all know how that worked out. Other than him, you have the Disney girls who admittedly built up most of their audience through the TV shows.

On the other hand, a lot of people don't remember this but Monica was 13 when she arrived. I don't think she and Rachel are comparable but I definitely see moms buying Rachel Crow CD's for their kids en masse. And even though the Stacy Lattisaw experiment was a relative failure (despite some great music), I think this time around it can work.

If we're going strictly by the name of the show then she wins by default, as the rest of the contestants since Astro left(even Melanie, who is my favorite) have bland personalities to say the least. If Rachel had Melanie's voice the other contestants would have been SOL from the beginning. She doesn't, but her voice is still better than 2 of the remaining 4 she's competing with.

Yeah, but Monica's draw when she debuted was that she sang with the maturity of someone much older. You listen to "Miss Thang" and you'd swear you were listening to an album by someone in their 20s. You listen to Rachel and it sounds like you're listening to an 8 year-old. Her second performance last night had all the polish of an elementary school talent show, and you could tell that the judges were purposely avoiding criticizing her. Not one mentioned her actual vocal performance, they all stuck to complimenting how lively she is.

Most child singing stars go on to be successful because they DON'T sing like children. Monica, Brandy, Britney, JoJo all of them perform like adults (which was always the big debate with young female artists). Even Disney acts wait until they mature past a certain point before they start going for music careers (Hilary Duff, Miley Cirus, Demi Lovato).

Rachel's Little Orphan Annie act won't resonate on the charts.

Melanie's Caribbean revelation bulldozed everyone in the personality competition, and it's genuine unlike whatever faux shtick Rachel is pulling.

In fact, with Chris Rene miraculously doing good performances this week, I predict Rachel and Marcus will comprise the bottom two. Rachel has long lost any competitive advantage she once had.

So...Chris Rene may have relapsed. Apparently he publicly posted what was meant to be a private message on Twitter and then quickly removed it.

The show is the show, not real life, so who knows if it's just more manufactured drama. In any event, drugs are bad, m'kay? The incriminating tweet, courtesy of ONTD:

EDIT: Perez Hilton thinks it's a photoshop hoax. By the way, remind me never to visit that site again. It's a brazen affront to good taste.

I hope he doesn't relapse.

After that t-shirt he wore during his last performance, i'm convinced he's just 6 months of invisalign away from being a bona fide hottie.

Has X-Factor been preempted for everyone else or just the East Coast? A fucking BROWNS game is scheduled at 8pm and X-Factor isn't on until 11pm. We suck....I'm used to our losses on SUNDAYS, not Thursdays.

Fake edit: LMAO @ this pre-show. "Tailgating in Cleveland is the win before the loss."

I don't take issue with people disliking one person or the next, but to say that she's fake, phony or otherwise not presenting her genuine personality is pretty sad. Unless of course you have some sort of proof and this isn't one of those "I hate her because she's nice and squeaky clean and because I don't know any 14 year olds that nice she must be a deceitful brat" things.

...and how the heck do you consider Chris's performances good? Good by his standards certainly but he's still singing background vocals at random times, still is almost entirely off tune, still slinging rhymes that would make Vanilla Ice proud, I mean I could go on but to channel my inner Stephen A Smith I have to say that to call his performances good is egregious. He is a joke and an embarrassment to the show's credibility.

No different for Marcus and definitely no different for Chris. Neither of those guys would win anything beyond an amateur talent competition (in the latter's case he wouldn't even get that far). It's a joke that they've both made it this far. At least in Chris's case you know America is just voting for the guy who looks, sounds and acts like he's handicapped. In Marcus's case he's almost likeable, in the same way that Eddie Winslow was when he sang on Family Matters.

See, now you're just hatin', yo.

I'll admit that Chris has been responsible for some of the worst performances of the season, but he showed his potential with his second performance last night. Pair Chris with any of the the hottest Pop/R&B producers today and he'd be hot. He has everything women get wet over.

Rachel? Not so much. She has only ever peaked at mediocre.

Smiley face? Really?

You thought it was true, yet you felt amusement instead of pity or disappointment, or even apathy. That's pretty callous, don't you think?

I saw your edit that it was a hoax. Thought for a sec that a hoax scandal might be interesting, and wondered how they would address it, but then realized that would just be distracting. Wasn't happy about a relapse. Should have been more clear. :)

You all catch that American Idol commercial? I kind of miss that show's low-budget breeziness, XF has so much needless bluster without the talent to put it to use. Imagine how Adam Lambert would've utilized all that flash, for instance.

The tea has been served.

I don't care who goes home between second-rate Usher and karaoke fetus. Too bad we don't have a double elimination this week.

I liked JLo in that commercial. I did not like that bargain-basement pop wannabe singing the song my husband first rocked on Idol.
