X-Men Destiny |OT| - A new game with X-Men...oh no, he's not in, play as Aimi Yoshida

I'll probably pick it up for $10 down the line. I mean a beat 'em up's a beat 'em up even if it doesn't have textures. :lol

Besides, it comes with this as an unlockable gamerpic.

I've always wanted that.

Wow. This looks like a game that was cancelled 10 years ago, and we're seeing screens of it for the first time.

Nope, those games looked better, at least their cutscenes...

I think I've officially uploaded more media of this version than Activision has.

That's just sad. Did that many people leave the company in the past few years?

That's the shittiest thing about this game though. It's bad, but not quite bad enough to where it is worth playing it just to make fun of it.

Does the PS3 version have an unlockable avatar?

Gambit's introduction is a glowing example of the quality writing to be found within X-men Destiny.

"Who're you?"
"I'm an X-men here to deliver this package to you. I kept it safe from the Purifiers!"
"I don't trust you mon ami let's fight"
*BORING FIGHT*
"So why are you here again?"
"I'm an X-men here to deliver this package to you. I kept it safe from the Purifiers!"
"Oh! Why didn't you say so in the first place?" (almost word for word, by the way)

Okay so i said i was enjoying the game, but that's mainly because of the X-Men. It seems like they had to release an X-Men game this year or Disney could get it back. Seriously this game will most likely get 4s & 5s. That's being generous.

The best thing about this game is the horrible, funny reviews its going to get.

Though I hope I'm wrong, at least for the sake of the team.

Good to see the reason you don't play as one of the X-men is because they wanted to use them in such an interesting way.

I am almost surprised at how much restraint they've shown in not throwing Wolverine and Deadpool out from the get-go.

No fuck them, they put out this piece of trash and are charging full price for it. They deserve every bit of criticism when you look at the lazy, piss poor effort they put in.

I hope it get's 1's and 2's across the board.

This is simply disgraceful.

God dangit, really just wanted a good X-men game. I'm still leaning towards buying it since I'm getting it for so cheap, but you guys are all scaring me :(

Just picked this up at the Redbox...why does Nightcrawler look like he has half a beaded necklace hanging out of his ass?

I can understand love for a franchise compelling you to play a game but are you enjoyingit enough to stick with it to the end?

Have you tried either of these?

How far are you in the game with your PS3 version? Have you encountered the same terrible textures as the 360 version shown in the pictures/videos above?

watching some of these videos and wow. It looks like this could have used another year in the cooker (of a competent developer).

Rented the ps3 version. I'm half way through in about 2 1/2 hours.

My copy doesn't have the texture load in problem that the youtube video has. Unless the xbox version really is broken. That said it does look like a ps2 game. The framerate is horrible. It chugs anytime there are a group of enemies or some type of particle effect is on screen. Environments are bland, barren, and non interactive. Animations are stiff, the mini map and cutscenes are pixelated, and so on.

Combat is really basic. Just tap square and win. There are arena challenges, but they just consist of kill X amount of enemies. Boss battles are unimaginative, and there aren't any puzzles to break up the monotonous action.

Not sure what else to say. It sucks and Silicon Knights should be shut down. I guess if you love X-men you can rent it but no one should ever pay full price for this.

I will have to play through it again and see, but while playing the game I wasn't taken out of it by the textures.

Those name graphics are even funnier in motion because the character will immediately start moving and clip through them as soon as they pop up.

Here's one of the moral choices I encountered...

Option A: The X-Men are awesome!!
Option B: Brotherhood Rules!!
Option C: I don't know yet

One other moral option I came across was

Nightcrawler: Hey, help us save people from being captured by Purifiers :D
Mystique: Hey, help us murder people by cutting oil lines so Pyro can murder people better

Also, the camera in this game is terrible.

Please tell me that was how it was really said in the game.

I think this game has a fair chance of being the new car vault title.

Seriously, it looks so bad at every possible angle. It even makes those mediocre Spiderman games look like the bee's knees.

Fire in the environment looks like Crash Bandicoot/Twisted Metal 1/2 fire.

Also with regards to the moral choices, the X-Men and Brotherhood characters so far have just been casually hanging out next to eachother waiting for you to make a choice about who to help.

I'm...actually having a great time with this. I haven't seen texture issues like in that video, I'm on 360 and have the game installed. It's not the greatest looking game, but like Too Human it only loads once at the beginning and unlike Too Human there's no long Valkyrie cutscene when you die. Though, I've only died 2 times in about 2 and a half hours of play.

The game is more of a God of War-lite than an RPG, though there are quite a few different powers and I feel like I've built my own character. I'm digging the silly story and I could see playing it again to make different choices. The combat works fine for what it is.

That's really how I would describe this game, it's "Fine." And full of X-men fan service.

Any idea on the impact of story decisions and how you build your character?

You have an alliance meter. At certain points you talk to characters that are part of the Brotherhood or X-men. If you choose to do their side mission the meter goes in there favor. There's also key story moments where they force you to make a choice. So far my choices haven't affected the story or gameplay in any way.

You build your character through xp by defeating enemies and collecting X genes by finding them in the environment or completing side missions. XP upgrades your combos and X genes give you different perks like faster healing.

Is "he who shall not be named" just trolling us with this release? Too Human wasn't good but how did the studio become this bad? Didn't they have awhile to work on it?

Thanks for the write up, that was this games last hope for me, if it had an amazing story that the player could minulate in interesting ways I could over look a lot of the other shit but hearing that it has less RPG elements then most sports games really is the final nail.

Acti' holding back review code is an obvious indicator that their putting this out just to recoup what ever dev costs they can.

Hmm are they? I wasn't sure I kind of thought so oh well if this is the case then obviously it's got issues lol

Oh god! Please tell me that they had a "C" team working on this, and not their "A" listers, as this appears to be a horrible travesty, and i actually liked Too Human.

Clearly it's just rushed. If it had another 10 years it'd be able to match Too Human's (relative) high quality.

The logo at the front does say "Silicon Knights License Group" so it is entirely possible that it was made by a different team.

I had really high hopes for this -- basically I kept hearing it was Infamous but with X-Men characters. Hopefully Activision 007 Blood Stone this and X-Men Destiny is actually a decent game sent to die.

Still, it looks awful from videos I've seen -- even then, I'm getting PS3 or 360 version when it drops in price.

Its the same with film, when a company knows they'll get bad reviews they don't do press screening, meaning reviews have to be written after its already out.

As someone else said it's God of War lite. There aren't any deeper choices or customizations beyond what I already mentioned. And by glancing at the trophies I can tell you there are two different endings which will be nothing more then choose A or B.
