I didn't want to see popular posts from people I don't follow.

I just wanted a boring ass timeline of people saying things from most recent to old.

You change this by clicking the arrow next to following and it "most recent" or whatever the option is. I'm not sure it even has it anymore, I think they got rid of the other option and it defaults back to most recent now.

But this is just Elon's latest effort to push engagement bullshit. He does it all the time himself directly, why wouldn't he try to nudge everyone else in that direction too?

Frankly the for you tab has actually been pretty good for a while now for me. It's actually incredible for Japanese Twitter specifically, I get so many good posts from Japanese users, and the auto translate is very readable.

Sure it will get hyper fixated in the short term on whatever you click on, but eventually it reverts back to your longer average. It's to the point where generally I at least understand why something is in my feed, even if I don't maybe care about it. Which is a huge upgrade from most of these kinds of feeds where 75%+ of the items I wonder wtf it's even doing there.

It's not just that, it's also fucked up the timeline. I can't find the option to make it show latest tweets/xskeets on desktop, so even the Following tab is permeated with 8, 10 hour old tweets at the top.

I use a browser plugin called "Control Panel for Twitter" that allows me to turn off the For You tab, I noticed that since a couple of days "For You" had reappeared. Pretty annoying since I'm not used anymore to clicking on the Following tab instead so I go through the feed as usual until I suddenly notice tweets from public figures whose nonsense I really don't want to read.

Also learn to use the "banned keywords" list its really great. For example I banned the keyword "Xbox" some years ago and it really cleaned up my feed lmao

The "for you" Tab isn't so bad. It learns from things you are interested in. I only see sexy japanese Cosplayers there. If you browse shitty content, dont complain when they recommend it to you.

If you're using X on PC, extensions are basically a must. There are a bunch of them that add really useful features, and there's probably one that fixes your issue too.

You don't even have to do that. I get fanart of waifus just by looking at other fanarts of waifus. It's really not complicated. The algo shows you stuff similar to what you previously interacted with. If you see something other than what you want, you need to stop interacting with things you don't want. Twitter isn't rocket science, that's Elon's other company SpaceX

I prefer 'For you'. Sometimes it's reverted to 'Following' and I'm like "why does the feed keep repeating what Michelle Obama and Kathy Griffin posts?" Maybe you need to widen your horizon and read more trash from people like me there.

I noticed at least X/Twitter allows you to scroll down a bit to see it again.

Instagram/Facebook... it gets lost to the abyss.

This happened a couple years ago, I was so annoyed that it keeps going to "For You" tab every time I opened. Twitter has been shit the past few months. There was the problem with DM's would not sync with PC/phone app if you send messages through PC web browser.

Side thought, not just with Twitter, but pretty much everything tech feels like nothing works the way it should.
