-No Digital Outputs!
The Console has absolutely not digital outputs to plug on any kind of Monitor or TV's and thus makes
it impossible to playback any High Definition Video bought at retail. The Built-in DVD Player decodes
only MPEG1 and 2 and scales it up for HDTV.
With 2 USB ports on the front and an additional on the back of the Console you can plug in your Mp3 Player,
PSPs, USB-Sticks, Digital Cameras or external harddisk from which you can play Music (MP3, WAV, WMA are supported)
and pictures can be shown as DiaShow. If you want you can as well have the music playback while displaying
Pictures. The Music can as well be used as Soundtrack in Games. Sadly it is impossible to copy these files
over to the Xbox360's Harddisk nor any Videos.
-Silent, but not completely silent-
The System is cooled using 3 Fans which blow out hot air out of the Consoles Back. The RPM (Rotations Per Minute)
depend on the system's heat and is adjusted as required. When playing back DVD's the Fans are rotating only slowly,
while playing hardware-demanding Games the fans Speed up.
Since the Sides of the Xbox360 are even it is possible to put smaller TV's on the unit. But you shouldn't put the
unit into closed cabinets. With our first impression, the Xbox360 is less noisy then its predecessor the Xbox, yet
the Unit is louder then one db and therefore is clearly hear-able in a quiet environment.
-Backward Compatibility
Microsoft was unable to give final statements about the Backward Compatibility for Xbox Games. What was said was
that they're working on the most popular Games of the Xbox. Xbox Games will look just the same on the Xbox360.
The increased power of the Xbox360 will not be used to add Anti-aliasing nor anything of the likes. Savegames
will sadly not be copyable from the Xbox.
-Score (?)
Microsoft has enhanced the Xbox meaningfully, yet failed adding Killer-Features to gain new Target Groups.
Owners of the Original Xbox don't have to put their black boxes into a grave as the compatibility of their games
is at no stage guaranteed. Moreso will the SaveGames be lost.
Home Cinema Enthusiasts can use the Console as High Quality DVD-Player -- Although not for DivX or HD-Movies.
For that you will require an additional player, and could directly for some additional money buy a Media Center PC
without the hefty Restrictions.
The New Games await Gamers with more detailed Graphics, but if that is enough to gather more people then previous
Xbox Owners is highly doubtable. There it will matter for the offered Games; which urgently require new Ideas.
For Casual Gamers are 400€uro a lot of money.
For the downgraded Version of 299€uro + 35 Euro gamers will have to drop quite a bit of features which don't justify
the price difference of 65 Euro. This Target Group (Casual Gamers) most probably won't purchase Premium content to play
Arcade Games, which they could download for free on the PC as Shareware or Flash. With this, it will be very hard for
Microsoft to find its place between the Playstation 3, a high-end enthusiast and the Nintendo Revolution for Casual Gamers
and gain any market share.
