Xbox 360 Killer App?

Crazymoogle said:
Oblivion get's discounted by me almost immediately because I'll just be buying it on the PC anyway. Call of Duty 2 though...is there a PC SKU for that?
Yes, it's coming out before the 360 version afaik.

Project Gotham 3
Oblivion

And just as important as having one or two killer games, the lineup looks to be very solid and deep.

I still haven't seen any launch games that are making me say "I have to get this". Oblivion and Gears of War are close but I honestly could never get into Elder Scrolls games and I could get it on PC if I wanted. And GoW isn't going to be out at launch. I'm not a big fan of FPS on consoles or sports games so really nothing to get me excited. Just seems like a souless lineup to me. Almost like the Xbox launch but without a Halo.

I really don't need a single killer app. The ability to play Live military shooters like Ghost Recon and Splinter Cell in high-definition is all that I need. Live is the best cross-publisher online gaming service on the planet, and many existing game franchises have hit the limits of the Xbox hardware. The upgrade is a no-brainer.

It won't be a phenomenon but Personally I'd get X360 just for Ridge Racer 6. It was worth getting a PSP just for Ridge Racer. I have played that game more than any other game this year.

Kameo looks incredibly fun and beautiful. It is absolutely amazing how they have turned this game around.

Games which were already big sellers on Xbox:
Elder Scrolls IV looks epic.
PGR3 is going to have awesome online features like the last game.
DOA4 amazing graphics, online play, hopefully more gameplay modes.

But who are we kidding? People are going to buy what they always buy. EA is going to clean-up with Madden and Need For Speed on Xbox 360. RR6 and PGR3 probably won't even sell a fraction of Need For Speed Most Wanted.

It won't be ready for launch but Gears of War looks excellent. GoW definitely has the ingredients to become a huge selling franchise especially with the story being written by the guy who wrote the Halo novels.

Dead Rising looks like it could be a fun innovative game. I don't know when it will be released, but I'm definitely looking forward to it.

Perfect Dark Zero has a lot of hype and high expectations but honestly I don't know what to expect. I think the massively multiplayer approach is going to result in unimpressive graphics in multiplayer. Most people were not too thrilled with the multiplayer in Conker so I'm not sure what to expect from Rare. I think the single player game is where PDZero will really shine and Rare will impress.

:lol I seriously doubt that Halo 3 will be the first big game phenomenon on Xbox 360 considering that game is probably very far away. If they're continuing to take 3 years between each sequel I wouldn't even count on Bungie getting the game out in 2006.

There isnt enough available yet to make me want to buy one. So far, only Gears of War has pursuaded me to consider buying one, but if I see or hear more about games like Ninja Gaiden 2 or Halo 3 and what I see and Hear is good, then I may be tempted to buy one next year. If there are enough games that catch my eye, I wont have to buy an Xbox just to play a few of the games I missed out on. Im still waiting to see if PES5 will be released on Xbox360, i dont think i could resist a next gen soccer game:)

99 Nights (I´m surprised I haven´t seen it in this thread, I thought it was a launch title in Japan). DOA 4 and, oddly, Frame City Killer also interest me. If I get a racer game, will be Ridge Racer 6 over PGR 3 (I just like racers with a strong arcade sense)

Oblivion is a PC game for me, I prefer to play it on computer but it would be another sure choose for sure, I absolutely love Morrowind and the demo of Oblivion at E3 rocked.

Gears of War rocks as well. I can pass of PDZ (not very interested in Live, sorry Velocity Girl).

Chikyuu Boueigun X and Neon.

¿? What games are these?

I was initially going to wait, but a good gamestop trade in coupon in July (extra 50% trade in value)+ the Pittsburgh Penguins landing Sidney Crosby in the NHL Draft made up my mind

I was going to just hold out, but the hype of the hockey draft, plus my excitement for hockey once again made me decide I NEEDED the best looking hockey game on the market (luckily it is the best playing too).

The custom soundtracks in every game feature is really nice as well.

I then started looking at the launch lineup and decided there were at least a dozen games I 'could' see myself owning at one point or another. I traded my Xbox and about 20 games in and am now going to get the following, all payed for at launch (85% payed off by my trade-ins)

Xbox 360 console
Project Gotham Racing 3
Perfect Dark 0
Dead or Alive 4
NHL2k6
Madden 06
Saints Row
Full Auto
TES: Oblivion

I most likely will dish out enough cash for the following at launch as well
Extra controller
The Outfit - If this turns out like Mercenaries at all, then I will bite
Call of Duty 2 - Never played this series, it would need a great single player review to get me to bite
Need for Speed: Most wanted - I love the cop chases in Hot Pursuit - It just needs a decent review to get me to pay full price

Oblivion
CoD2
Ghost Recon 3
PD0 (stop hating)
edit: holding out on Madden for the 360 version

and the eventual...

Halo 3

elder scrolls 4.

I can live without the rest though.

Seriously.

I think I may get a 360 just to play that game. I never experienced much of Morrowind, but with these circumstances I'll put hours and hours into Oblivion.

None of the X360 titles are killer-aps for me but there are so many good launch games to choose from.. PGR3, Ridge 6, PDZ, Elder Scrolls IV, DOA4, Saint's Row and of course all the Jap stuff like Lost Odyssey, Blue Dragon, Rumble Ho's XX. Damn you MS for taking my money!!

unfortunately the ONLY two things for X360 that interests me right now is Alan Wake and RE5... and both of those have been announced as multi-platform.

So far, no X360 for me. That could all change if/when Silent Hill 5 is announced for it. Then again, if SH5 goes multi as well, I'd probably get it for PS3.

Oooooh, I forgot Alan Wake. That looks interesting.

Chikyuu Boueigun (only like you know imagine it with the power of X), and Neon.

Thank you! Neon... yes, I forgot it, really excited about it, but I think it will be built in the system so I don´t use to count it as game. Buy yes, you are right, given how much I liked the idea of Unity I really want to try it.

Chikyuu Boueigun...he, first time I see it. The Xbox 360 one it´s going to be a "Simple" serie?

no, its not even in the 'launch window' whatever that means

They said it'll be released for Japan's launch window (so before the holidays) then after a few months, so probably spring 2006 it'll be released in the west. I really really really hope it gets released in the west before that, because it's my most anticipated game.

I definitely think that people seem to be confusing killer app with "Launch games I want". There are really very few killer apps, I mean if you look at consensus at GAF, you'd think that RE4 is a killer app, and yet look at how it has sold. Same with MGS3. The real Killer Apps are the Halos, GTAs and Maddens. Hell, not even Mario has the Killer App status anymore. So depending on how Madden360 ends up looking compared to current gen, I could see that being the killer app just like 01 was for the PS2.

Perfect Dark Zero

and Ridge Racer 6 (shit... if the series helped the playstation systems move units... it can help the xbox 360)

well that is good news. I thought 99 Nights was like over a year away from release.

I don't mind being wrong on that one!

PGR3, new Ghost Recon, next-gen Madden and COD2 for me.

And yes, a new next-gen Madden (exclusive) coming out for X360 only, during prime time NFL season, is the epitome of a "KILLER APP". I doubt anyone could even name a franchise that is more of a killer app than that.

Also... you guys need to realize how fucking crazy us hardcore NFL fans/gamers are. We cannot resist something like a new next gen Madden sitting out there. :lol Especially because by then, the current gen Madden will be getting stale to all of us and we'll be looking for something new. This Madden is gonna sell a fucking shitload of X360's, all by itself. Add to that the new next-gen NBA Live's and FIFA's and all of SEGA's 2k line coming soon after and there's not a sports gamer alive that will be able to resist.

As much as I look forward to that game...do not post that cover art ever again. It's too awesome, and I really wish they went in that art direction, rather than going with a cartoony look.

N3 is AFAIK planned as a 2005 release in Japan, but offline only. Then a few months later it will be released everywhere else, with an online mode added.

*jaw drops*

tell me you're kidding. That's terrible.

Ridge Racer MUTHAFUKINSIX! is my "killer ap"...I want this game so bad I can taste it..

Other potential killer aps for me include:

PGR3

PD0

CoD2

GRAW

Rumble Roses

I'm serious. I mean yeah i was planning on getting one due to some combo of PGR3, PD0, Full Auto, Ridge Racer 6, Kameo, DOA4, Dead Rising, Top Spin 2 and NHL2K6. Rumble Roses just clinched it.

Ridge 6.
Live and exclusive.:D

I am so proud of you guys. It's so satisfying to see so many GAF members jump on the RR bandwagon. RR for the PSP no doubt is partialy responsible for the joy and rise in popularity of this franchise. I must say I did not expect so many people in this thread to mention RR6 as their killer app. It almost brings a tear to my eye.

I am someone who will be right there with you guys, celebrating and partying on launch day. I will also be promoting this game on several forums even Playstation forums. They will all feel the wrath of Isamu!!

Now all Namco has to do is confirm that the game will have force feedback steering wheel support so I can die a hapy man.

For those of you who did NOT mention RR6 as your kilelr app. Can I ask why? What other game on November 4th will even come CLOSE to the rapture that is RR6?
