Xbox 360 unveiled, pics inside (Engadget)

Damn, one thing I just thought of now for built-in wireless controllers... what's gonna happen to Halo LAN parties when you have a bunch of Xbox2s around? When I have a computer LAN with my friends, my one friend and I have Logitech wireless stuff, and they interfere with each other and makes mine unusable. How will the controller know which Xbox it should be connected to?

Really disappointed that those images from a week or two ago turned out to be real.

I just hate the design of the system. Either way you have it, it looks goofy as hell. I don't mind the white color. Controller looks good, although I dont see how it's going to offer anything new.

In regards to the DS first image and the release, it was just a matter of what plastic/paint they used. Seriously, that image really makes the DS look super sexy with the titanium/platinum coat. What's out on shelves though kind of looks like a poor man's silver.

It will be just a matter to hit two buttons simultaneously...

One on the Xbox and one on the controller? That'd be a pain in the ass. To be honest I never read any information specifically on how the wireless stuff works in the SDK docs, so that's why I'm genuinely curious.

It doesn't look very good IMO. And it doesn't matter how many crappy looking consoles were released in the past, that doesn't change my mind. But go ahead and keep bringing up crappy looking consoles if that's fun for you.

I dont see whats so ugly about it. It's amazing how threads can turn out based on the first few responses.

Its nothing amazing to look at, thats for sure, not in these shots anyway. The colour doesnt matter as you'll be able to change the faceplates (they probably deliberately made it dull grey so you would). I expect it to turn up at E3 with all different paint jobs.

The controller looks great all finished, i hope they stole sonys idea for the infrared webcam, that has so many possibilities.

I think outside of America you can say "Microsoft is dumb" OR "Microsoft are dumb" and be correct either way. In the first instance the company is an entity and in the second it is a collection of people.

Yes, either one is correct if you speak the Queen's English.

That doesn't change the fact it was one of my less lucid posting moments though. *hangs his head in shame*

HOT TIP FOR FANBOIS:

If you want to knock the system design, you can plausibly do a paragraph's worth of "generic" and "boring" references.

Once you get into using terms like "fugly" and "hideous" though, you're simply revealing yourself to be the fanboy drama queen that you are. The design is far too neutral and inoffensive to possibly qualify as "fugly", regardless of how thick your goggles are.

"looks like a generic satellite or cable box in that pic"

i.e. in the photoshopped pic. not the other ones.

please shove this response up your ass.

thank you.

I don't think it's that ugly, but it's definitely not nice looking. Comparing the 360 to the controller next to it, it looks like will be pretty big. So I guess MS still haven't learn there lesson in system design.

Not that it looks ugly (I didn't say that, anyway), but it does look generic. Like a PC tower. It's Microsoft, though, so maybe it's suiting, and like you said, you can customize. Other than that, the concave top of the system draws unneeded attention. What's the point? Would've looked better as a flat surface.

Probably a dumb question and probably a question that's already been answered but I don't really care right now.

So, with the Xbox360 using wireless controllers, does this mean we're going to have to keep piles of batteries lying around for the controllers or are they rechargable? Either way blows IMO, but I just want to know if it is the lesser of the two evils.

The shape is alright, but I don't like the colour of it.

The original render looked great IMO, the tray had a brass/bronze look to it which I thought looked awesome.

Hopefully they'll be rechargeable "paks" that come with a recharging stand.

EDIT: Isn't that how Wavebird comes? Never used one so I'm not sure.

Wavebird uses 2 AA batteries that seem to last forever.

But since there will be a rechargable battery in each of the controllers (presumably a lithium-ion battery typically found in cellphones and DS for example), won't that increase the price for controllers by quite a margin? Those batteries can't exactly be cheap...

I dont think they will be some kind of special batteries. Just standard AA or AAA recharchable batteries.

I heard that it comes with a single recharge dock for all that :|

You set the controller on the dock to recharge, like an iPod.
I hope it won't be this way. I'd prefer a recharge cord, so I could continue playing while in recharge.

Yeah, this would probably be the best solution but doesn't that kind of defeat the purpose of having wireless controllers in the first place?

Whatever. I've always hated the idea of wireless controllers. It's even more irritating that they've become standard and we're not even given a choice in the matter anymore. It's my personal problem however, I'll come to terms with it at some point.

How? It isn't that you'll have to be alway plugged, but you'll do it only when in low battery.

So you are complaining about the recharge cord defeating the purpose of having wireless controllers and hate the idea of having wireless controllers as standard? :)

Just plug the cord and play if you are not so into the wireless thing. You DO HAVE a choice.

Well, maybe this will help you understand my perspective.

I've always assumed that the reason to have wireless controllers would be to play from a greater distance from your console (IE. if you have your console set up in the living room, you could play from your couch with great ease and not have to worry about pulling the controller out of the socket, etc.). Therefore by having to recharge while your playing wouldn't you in fact have to be closer to your console thus defeating the purpose of the wireless controller in the first place?

It's really not that big a deal in the grand scheme of things but, as you can tell by now, I do find it somewhat annoying to have to deal with this when I'm already used to playing games a certain way. Oh well, it's the way the industry seems to be going so I'll have to get used to it.

Of course its fucking ugly, its small yeah..... but its cheap ass plastic with no detail and looks worse than the original ps2.

Well I beg to differ, I own both the PS2 and PStwo and the former is ugly. At worst, the PStwo is neutral; it is inoffensive and sleek. "Ugly" is a bit too strong, don't you think?

I'd like to tell you about this little concept called subjectivity...

I know, the concept wher Halle Berry and and Angelina Jolie look horrible to you and beautiful to me. I can live with that! :D :P

I'm still having trouble seeing why everyone here thinks this is ugly. Sure, I could see people being indifferent to the design because it's nothing crazy but it certainly isn't awful. Of course many of the people here that are so vocal about their displeasure with the design probably had no interest in getting one in the first place. But for Christ's sake, we've been dealing with that hiddeous design of the Xbox for over 4 years now. This is a hundred fold improvement.

OK I have read this whole thing and looked at the photos and can only say.

What the hell is wrong with the design. Looks like a nicely put together piece of consumer electronics with smooth lines and a good deal smaller than the existing XBOX (Which I for one never had a problem with, smaller than my TIVO, Reciever, DVD player which it sits on top of).
