My post was clearly to point out that dabbling into console customization isn’t anything new, as anyone who’s been following gaming would know, and certainly didn’t constitute copying. Not once did I make a comparison with another console maker.

People here are well aware of the types of customization options that can be offered, by different companies at different times, even outside of consoles — most of us who post here, are enthusiasts, and the poster you were quoting, was responding based on the "current" landscape. That also doesn't really matter, given the topic. I mean, you did not need to point out face plates if customization was all you wanted to highlight → Xbox Design labs, and the product mentioned in this very topic BY Microsoft, which speaks for itself.

Unless, of course, you and the poster you quoted, live in a bubble.

You simply wanted to point out to the poster you were responding to, that MS was "first" and that is a fair point on its own, but I don't think it was necessary, and if that is all you were trying to say, then given your posting history, I erred in taking it this far.

In fairness, corporations have been known to get things wrong. Apple making a model of phone that blocks signal when held, Microsoft having a major meltdown issue with 360, and so on. They are far from infallible, and a cosmetic wrap causing temp increases would be well within the realm of possibility.

For the record, I don't think these will. XSX from day 1 has had great reports about its thermals, and the giant vent isn't at all blocked by these so I don't see that changing in any appreciable way. It's more the idea that manufacturers are beyond getting it wrong.

I just pre-ordered the Starfield one. The camo, while neat, aren't as cool. Wish there had been a solid white, but the Starfield wrap pairs well with my Starfield controller anyway I suppose.

Yeah. Since these things are primarily flat, or at least they could make one like that for the lab, they might even be able to support uploading a high-res jpg for each side (like with business cards and brochures). I imagine you'd see some really unique designs from something like that. But even with a more standardized tool they could offer quite a bit of customization.

Wraps, the alternative for new games

I like that in 2023 I get a wrap AND new games. Wrap my Xbox Series X with a Starfield wrap, while in 2023 playing Starfield, Hi-Fi Rush, Forza Motorsport 2023, Sea of Thieves: Monkey Island, Age of Empires 4 for Xbox, Age of Empires 2 for Xbox, Cities Skylines 2, Call of Duty MWIII, Assassin's Creed:Mirage, Alan Wake 2, Armored Core 6, Cyberpunk 2077 Phantom Liberty, Minecraft Legends, Hogwarts Legacy, Diablo 4, Star Wars Jedi Survivor...and Stalker 2 is still tentatively scheduled for this year too. Then there is 2024

Sony has been sleeping on the costumization option for game themed plates. Spider man plates sold out very fast. They slept on GT7, GoW Ragnarok, Horizon FW, FF16, Hogwarts Legacy that they had marketing deal, etc.

Thought it would be like a vinyl sticker but it’s actually a fabric and secured by Velcro which is kinda cool. Makes them easily removable. Design lab for these could be cool

Still don't know if this is better for revenue than dedicated limited edition consoles, but if Xbox is playing copycat to Sony on it they must believe so.

But playstation is playing copycat to Xbox 360 faceplates.
