Xbox boss confirms "next-gen hardware is in development"

Or is it just one of Adam's balls in my throat?

"We've been looking at prototyping, designing"

Microsoft has confirmed its "next-gen hardware" is in development.

In an interview with Variety, Xbox president Sarah Bond discussed the company's partnership with ROG for the ROG Xbox Ally handheld – the clamor for which was described by Bond as "overwhelming" — but insisted the firm was "100 percent looking at making [Xbox hardware] in the future," too.

"We are 100 percent looking at making things in the future. We have our next-gen hardware in development. We've been looking at prototyping, designing," Bond revealed.

"We have a partnership we've announced with AMD around it, so that is coming. What we saw here was an opportunity to innovate in a new way and to bring gamers another choice, in addition to our next-gen hardware. We are always listening to what players and creators want. When there is demand for innovation, we're going to build it."

Bond continued: "We want to make sure that people have a choice. We want to make sure there's an option for the power players who want the latest innovations, that want to push the edge of what's possible, the most demanding players. And then, if someone is looking for PC gaming on the go, they're a casual gamer, they're a gaming enthusiast, then there's Xbox Allys for them. Giving multiple choices for people, so we can actually meet people where they are.

"There's a ton more innovation to come, including things like further optimizing the experience here, scaling out the handheld compatibility program, offering more benefits and improvements to the experience and other features [...] that we're going to give to people and more choices and more games," Bond added.

Last week, Microsoft refuted claims US retailers have withdrawn sales of its Xbox Series X and S consoles, insisting major chains "remain committed partners for Xbox consoles, accessories, and games" after Costco reportedly stopped selling Xbox consoles in the US and UK in both its online and physical stores.

We are 100 percent looking at making things in the future.

If parents heard their kids saying they were "100% looking at doing their homework in the future", they'd have them grounded because they were obviously not doing any homework.

13 posts and no mention for your man adamsapple?

You're slacking.

is it an actual traditional home console though? That's what people are asking. Rumours have been pointing to a expensive PC hybrid or some shit.

I think it's going to be prebuilt PCs with some hefty choices for top money.

There is no sense in making a console now.

Because there is little need for an Xbox. When MS are putting their games not just on PC on day 1 with Xbox, but also on rival platforms, it doesn't give people much of a push to purchase an Xbox console.

You're right. This new hardware will be just a pre-built PC with the Xbox logo slapped on. We might see one from Microsoft, but we'll them different versions of varying degrees of power from third parties like Asus, MSI etc.

So just out of curiosity. We know how truthful Xbox leadership has been over the past .. oh ... ten+ years? Why does anyone care what any of them say at this point?

And no one is going to buy it because you're a third party publisher who has killed the one redeeming factor for your next console in gamepass by raising the price of it to the point that it's a non factor anymore. You sunk yourself with gamepass and now all that's left is the corpse of a brand that used to mean something more.

Can't wait for the ROG Xbox Strix G3800DH!

They need at least a few years to come with a new confusing naming scheme.
Introducing the "Xbox: Series One XS"
That's honestly what I'm most interested in for new Xbox hardware. What nonsense name they would pick. Probably just XBOX.

What is the point?

PS6 = Microsoft, Sony, and third parties
New XBOX = Microsoft, third parties (likely fewer)

They need a REALLY good reason to get people interested (e.g. going back to exclusives)

I just don't understand the lack of vision and then keep tooting this horn. They invested pretty heavily in studios whatever. At that point you just let the studios do what they do best, and just funnel them money if the project is worthwhile, they still fucked up that part.

I believe their angle is going to be selling a PC (that everyone sane looks at as the most powerful plaform anyway) and try to sell it as some out of the box experience you can have on your living room. Yes, i know pc gamers know how to do it easily, but the common gamer doesn't.

They have to keep making hardware for gamepass. The majority of gamepass users are console users which means they have to keep supplying hardware to supplement those people. PC users don't care about gamepass so they gotta keep milking the existing console user base anyway they know how.

That's the goal.

Lots of people want to get into PC gaming, but it's more expenisve than consoles and nowhere near as user friendly. A gaming PC isn't just plug and play like a console. If they can crack that and create a gaming PC that sits under the TV like a console, but is also cheaper than PC (I assume there will be cheaper models) and is user friendly then they might be onto a winner.

Valve tried this ages ago and failed, but the market might have changed since then.
