I'd hardly call renting and streaming easily emulated games as amazing..

And as a collector myself I find the whole 'renting' old games abhorrent. Just another dreamt up load of shit from a suit.

Microsoft is really committed to BC and cross platform
Until we can buy them separately and have a cast iron clause that says they're ours indefinitely, no, they not.

It's included with GamePass and not a separate thing

Could be cool for the cheevos, leaderboards and rankings.

Xbox did something similar many years ago on 360 I think it was, where it was a virtual arcade and with your avatar you would go inside and play tons of atari games and more. Except back then it was al a carte on the games

I guess it's not for retro enthusiasts, but for casual people then.

Yeah, for the most part. Easy for many to pick and game and play. Folks checking out the old stuff, play for 20 min on a game and be done with it type deal.

Any serious play, I would use RetroArch personally, but this can still be cool.

Why would a pc player pay for a sub to play these retro games when we can run them better natively, with better graphics settings, without streaming?
What games are you specifically talking about here?

Going by the list posted these are ancient games. Most won't have these to play natively on PC.

I have a few on C64 and Amiga (still have them plugged in and ready for usage!) but certainly not all games listed here. It'a a nice collection. But more are needed.

The concern for me is that they're streamed. Old games are much more dependent on instant input.

Also, if THIS is how MS plans to make legacy Xbox games available on PC… Then fuck them all the way to hell and then send the slayer to rip and tear them apart!!
Native emulation is what's needed.

Yeah, did not realize it's streamed at first, def a shame on that part. Nice for casuals maybe, but this has ZERO to do with game preservation in any capacity.

Oh wow. I don't have to pay extra for this? Wait is it for PC too? I got too excited maybe i should just read more. This would be sick on the new handheld too.

It doesn't appear to be working. I can't launch a single game. I just get errors. This is on PC and XBX.

Edit: Nevermind, working now. No mouse support for paddle games, though? And A&B buttons for Decathlon instead of the stick? Yeesh.

Yeah the wording and how they boast about this makes me concerned. It's not unlikely that they'll try to hype up that you can play old Xbox games on PC this way. For me that's no solution at all. That would be pure cancer.

They are working hard to justify this price increase we are about to get. It'll be right after the June showcase I bet.

Us PC folks can't keep getting away with this.

Why do people pay for Spotify and Netflix when they can just buy the Blurays or CDs?

It's a convenience thing and it doesn't make sense for everyone.

You can find the roms for these games.

For many of the games listed, streaming will not really matter.

I suspect that anyone who cares about playing shmups won't be streaming them here as their main game station, but it's there.

You don't have to stream though right? They can be installed like any other GP game?

Using emulators and roms isn't for everyone, that's why there is a market for retro collections.

This is pure convenience. 100+ games accessed by pressing a button. I like it! The idea of it all is brilliant.

But the question remain, how's the latency? I want DF's John to make a scientific video on this.

I did something similar for retro gaming. I downloaded Exodos and got 7300 MS Dos games for free (but payed 75 for the license anyway because it's to good to be free) and discovered abandon ware sites. Cost me 0,00 a month.

But I still can't play Ninja Blade, so piss off. I grew up on the classics and I am all for game preservation but are we really clamoring to play these games for the umpteenth time? And for PC players, there is really no incentive for this given that --

Not the kind of retro games I'm into, personally. '80s arcade-wise if they aren't SEGA, Namco, Capcom, Konami, Midway, SNK or specific Atari games (which don't seem like they're included here), probably not much to write home about. And I doubt the '90s Atari content I'd like is in here, Activision stopped making arcade games by the '90s (maybe even earlier), and Microsoft had zero arcade games back then (or now).

The Sierra & DOS stuff has potential, provided they work with with a controller. Most of the SNES & PS1 releases are going to be licensed slop, and I doubt they have the license to the PS1 Blade game (which has an awesome soundtrack btw).

There's some potential here but doesn't mean much right now until the bigger guns (i.e Phantasmagoria 1 & 2, Gabriel Knight, Leisure Suit Larry, Midtown Madness, Radikal Bikers, Area 51 etc.) start showing up.

When I noted that I wanted them to expand their backwards compatibility program this is not what I meant. Game streaming and some museum games that run on browsers are some monkey's paw shit.

Never had a 2600 but a friend did. funny thing is went to his house one day and played Chopper Command and I guess either the game is easy or my kiddie game skills were already good since I went on forever and quit.

Always wanted to try Enduro. I forget if he had it or not.

I remember buying Spider Fighter for a different friend for his bday. At that time the game crash must had happened already (back then I dont think anyone knew), but I think it was only $10.

Some of the emulation here is just plain bad. The 2600 games run fine but Mechwarrior (SNES) and half of the old Sierra DOS games I tried all had this constant black flickering that made them largely unplayable, unless you like headaches.

Playing Kaboom! without the actual paddle controller is still ass. Not enough speed or finesse in the analog stick or dpad for the faster levels.
