Everybody calm down and put your pitchforks away. I'm not talking about controller features, ergonomics, stick placement, etc. I'm strictly referring to the aesthetics. I just picked up the Xbox ghost cipher controller and I don't even own an Xbox anymore. However, this shit right here is too clean!

They've released so many cool designs from the Sea of Thieves controller to the starfield one and more. Sony, Nintendo? These guys aren't even trying. Controllers are so expensive now with a host of reliability issues. The least they could do is put a little more effort into the design. It would at least let you feel like you're getting your money's worth. In Canada, the ps5 controller is $94 dollars before taxes. Imagine paying that much and getting a plain colored controller. Especially one that you know is going to get drift in less than a year. If we have to replace the controllers so frequently, there should at least be some variety. Of the 3 companies, Sony has been the laziest by far and when they release something fire, you can't get it. Look at the DualSense 30th anniversary controller.. Many couldn't get either the regular DualSense nor the Edge. It's a giant joke.

I gotta give props to Microsoft; they're cooking. It might be the only thing they're cooking this gen but it should be recognized. Maybe they should promote the head of controller designs to the CEO of gaming and kick Spencer to the curb. This dude/gal is the only one designing products worth buying in the whole of Xbox.

Am I off base here or do you agree?

Im seriously contemplating getting this controller cuz it reminds of my now dead Lunar White controller, the first limited edition controller I got for Xbox.......and since developed a bit of an addiction.
I thought I beat said addiction but this thing looks amazing.

I’d rather they invest in better tech like 1000hz polling than cosmetic crap.

No way should their controllers be limited to 250hz.

Nah. Maybe it's better if you exclusively play COD. For everything else you need a dualshock/sense.
(I don't pimp my controllers).

The best controller design for the Dualsense has been the 30th Anniversary Edition. This gen has been lacking of special editions consoles and controllers. It's been a bad gen overall when you consider everything together.

Xbox always outdo themselves when it comes to controller designs. Like I said before in another thread some day. It would be awesome if Microsoft got into the third party controller business, because a Sony or Nintendo controller made by them, would be pretty nice.

I gotta throw the Astro Bot controller in the ring if we are talking limited. Looks awesome. I bought one but I can't bring myself to take it out of the box. lol

I agree it’s a nice controller for sure.

Too bad with the built in battery it can’t be saved as a collectible.

I like the ergonomics, battery options, art and design. Hate the lack of gyro, buttons are too loud and the dpad needs a little work. Overall very solid. I caved on the Forza and Starfield ones but I liked about 6 others I would have been happy to get if I needed it.

I really liked the 360 controller. The xbone controller sucked, cheap and broke all the time. I don't know about the newest versions, 8 bitdo is far superior to the 360.

not only controller designs, console designs too.

that Gears 5 design alone man... the ice in the middle is transparent, and the Gears skull logo below the ice actually isn't just flat, it has multiple layers that give it a 3D effect.

as for controllers, the Sea of Thieves one is great.
not only is it translucent but the skull also glows in the dark.

Damn OP. I'm still on a Bone controller. There's not a damn thing wrong with it, aside from all the traction being worn off the sticks. Might be my longest lasting controller ever tbh. Still, that thing is sexy. I thought it was gonna be an Elite when I searched for it.

I like the controllers on all of the consoles for different reasons, but I bought an extra Xbox controller for my Steam Deck because it feels the best of all of them. The right weight distribution, feel, etc. It just feels perfect when I play.

If it had a dpad that wasn't dog water I would agree.

The Xbox One Controller walked so the 8 Bit Do Ultimate with Hall Effects could run (a marathon, twice over)

Xbox controller is absolutely terrible. Feels completely small, cheap and tacky with nothing novel about it.

It'd help if both of you bothered to read the OP. This is a discussion about aesthetics....

What do you mean "can't be saved as a collectible"?

I guess you can, if you open them up and remove the battery inside. otherwise, over time, this could turn into an issue. who knows how long those battery packs survive without issues.

after a year without charging the battery capacity will start degradating.
and if they stay uncharged for a significant amount of time they can start to swell up, which can be dangerous and will probably damage your controller from the inside.

Anything with a built in battery will eventually turn to junk.

Especially the DS5 which can’t even function without a battery inside.

Nah...you can still crack it open and replace the battery.

Replacing the internal battery isn't that big a deal, especially if we are talking about a collectible.

yes, but you gotta do it right away if you actually have them as a collectible and not use them.
a swelling battery isn't just something you got to replace, that is something that can break stuff inside the controller.

I 100% prefer the Xbox controller.

But...

The first one out of Sony and Microsoft to implement hall effect sticks as a standard will pretty much have the best controller for eternity.

If my Xbox Elite controller had hall effect sticks, I would lick my own ass... somehow.

it's ridiculous that not even either of their premium pro controllers have hall effect sticks.

meanwhile fucking 8bitdo has hall effect sticks in controllers that cost 30 to 40 bucks... absolutely ridiculous

That's fine, but we are talking worse case scenarios here. I'm disagreeing with this take that the controller "can't be saved" as a collectible because it has an internal battery. That's simply false.

The slickest controller design I've seen is the elden ring print on the Thrustmaster ESwap controller. It looks really classy.

DualSense is probably my favorite. Graphics and color wise, I'm not sure.

Xbox controller is good but at some point you have to change the batteries, and the dual sense PlayStation controller gets praise not just for the touch pad but the easy share button, charging, addressing the trigger issues.

Sony's excuse is that they need to recoup the $500 billion they lost from Concord.

Microsoft... well they need to pay the CEO his fair share.

It's a shame their sticks develop drift so quickly.
I must be lucky I guess because I have a 360 controller, 2 Xbox one controllers, and a series x controller and they're all still perfectly functional without drift. I just had an xbox one controller break on me but that was my fault cuz I dropped it onto the hardwood floor directly onto one of the sticks.
