Xbox Live Fall 2012 Dashboard Public Beta - Signup Now

Got the update by clicking on the zone video app. It's a little choppy on some of the transition animations but IE is very good. Way better Han the PS3 browser.

no gold, so no IE for me. that makes the ps3 browser still the best, because I don't have to fucking pay for it.

The ps3 browser is a pile of horseshit, but none of this is relevant to this thread
Finally a reason to use my chatpad

Pins are a nice idea, but I'd want them on the actual home page, not relegated to being just another menu.

I guess MS makes way too much money to give up advertising in my 'personal space'.

but free,
I am every time impressed that Microsoft always has the balls to charge for something that is free everywhere else

It's funny, I like IE on the 360 more than IE on a PC. Really really fast, responsive. Loving it. So much better than the browsers on my PS3, Wii, 3DS, and Vita. Shame it took them so long to add one. Pins are awesome as well especially if you regularly use more games/apps then fit into the Recent tab.

Thanks, no one's heard that Microsoft charges for Live before. Tell us more.

Earlier someone wondered aloud why the "Pins" only worked while you were online. Well, I just updated my second Xbox and sure as shit, my pins are right there to be used! I was so happy to see it worked like that. :)

Despite the fact that I find dashboard ads annoying, as well as some of Microsoft's policies, for me the interface of this console just continues to get better with time. With the inclusion of the "Pins" feature, and the browser, which works very well, I can now say with confidence this is my favorite console to use. They simply have all the bases covered at this point. The only thing I'd love to see changed during this beta would be relocating the Games tab to be right after Social.

Having also just recently started using the cloud saves and mobile profile, I'm seriously impressed with Xbox Live right now.

So...I mean, it works...

Videos don't work because no flash or HTML5, so 90% of the reason why you would want a browser on your TV is right out.

I find that streaming video from my computer to the xbox is dramatically slower now.

The game store is even more of a mess due to the wasteland that is indie games being mixed in with everything. Demos of real games are all but impossible to find now.

And the pinning isn't that useful because it's still not the primary focal point when the system turns on.

It's a bigger mess. And Netflix is still 10 times slower to load than it is on the Ps3.

EDIT: Office on the web works (SkyDrive)!

The only improvements I really want now are related to the friends list. I'd like it to be bigger and I'd like to be able to create groups with different notifications for each - kind of how you can put your mobile phone contacts into groups and have a different ring tone for each group.

I'd like to be able to gift MSP too, but I don't think we're going to get that any time soon.

Dood. You press down once and then A and you're right there. How does that make it not useful??? If they made that the primary focal point, people would complain that the game in the tray isn't the primary focal point so they can't win either way, but one click of a stick and a button push is no hassle.

Updated on my main console but I can't seem to request a second key for my secondary one.

Ah, you're totally right. It was having problems working with sites that have playback options. I'm watching yesterday's Giantbomb TNT on my TV without having to jump through hoops! Pretty cool. Ditto on the JW player though, 10 minutes in and hard stop. Could be a caching error.

Still having trouble using youtube though. I hope they decide to do something with flash so I don't have to deal with the f'n terrible youtube 360 app.

So correct me if I'm wrong, but can you not pin categories? I wanted to pin Games:Demos, but was seemingly unable to.

And unless Microsoft is going to properly cull through indie games and start taking down stuff that are not games, they shouldn't have mixed both databases together.

Go to your download history on the second console, and download that app again. Use it on that console. It worked for me. :)

Oh okay. That'll probably work.

Just tried the Youtube app to see if anything changed. Doesn't seem like it, but it crashed 2 seconds into the video I was trying to watch three times in a row.

God damnnit, you bastards. Can't believe I only just found out about it.

You all suck at letting me know about the cool shit :(

HTLM5 works,so it's just like any other apple phone.Indie, arcade ,retail and on demand demos are all separated and the pin tab is the home section the first thing you see on start up.I haven't tested Nexflix or streaming from xbox to pc yet. It's ok to prefer your PS3 but don't come in a beta thread spouting bullshit lies for a console you probably don't even own.

And that's not good enough.

For IE9 to be meaningful on a TV, it has to be more than what people already have beside them at all times. If you're going to get rid of 60% of web video and force people to use an app to see the number one video repository on the internet that has less functionality than the website when the website is RIGHT NEXT TO YOU on your phone or tablet, you're never going to make any meaningful headway on a TV based browser. It's dumb and they need to make it so it works seemlessly for it to matter.

But then it doesn't matter because it's a browser on a TV and your phone is next to you at all times.

That being said, navagation is pretty simple. It's not nearly as much of a chore as I thought it would be considering I'm not using a chatpad.

But as stated earlier, HTML5 does work. Works pretty well unless you're doing HD streams, where it seems like the player's cache gets clogged up pretty quickly. Got 13 minutes into an HD stream before it locked up, I'm 15 minutes into a "high" stream and it's running swimmingly. The left stick zoom scaler could be a little better, but...::Shrugs:: It works as well as the PS3 browser, so...yay.

I just did a pretty comprehensive stream test. I used an 720p .mkv episode of adventure time transcoded by PS3mediaServer as a control, as I ran this set up on my 360 last night with no issues. On the xbox, I was getting massive slowdown, the stream being a jerky mess that was unwatchable. It was fine on the PS3. Something is different with the streaming service this time around. I hope they fix it, but knowing their aversion to supporting anyone's codecs but their own, I doubt they will until the next console.

Netflix real quick: PS3: 23 seconds from menu to movie, 360 with the new firmware: 46 seconds. But that's roughly consistent from how it was before the update. Netflix on 360 is just slow for some reason.

If you go to games, demos, sort by date, indies is mixed in with everything now, which is terrible. There's so much garbage there...

And it's cluttered and somehow the ads are even bigger and the play now tab is even smaller...

Should I just make a video answering questions? Should I just stream something?

oh man, IE is actually fast and works, wife even used it for vampire dairies guide and she loved it.. I browsed neogaf and it worked equally as well. very surprised.

If you have an iPhone or iPad you still won't be able to play flash videos. Even the nexus 7 chrome browser doesn't play flash and you have to do a workaround by using a different browser.

The update won't magically make Netflix start faster as that app has to be updated as well. The games sorting is a mess but that's all backend stuff that can easily be fixed and this is a beta so they have plenty of time to fix it before launch.

What? You might be having some xbox problems then.

- Youtube works for me, despite a flash warning. Must be html5 stuff they're pushing more and more. And we still have a full Youtube app.

- Streaming video is absolutely the same for me. No change that I can see.

- Demos are a mixed marketplace but there is a dedicated indie game section, so I don't know what you mean by that.

- After a boot up PINS are down one square. It's like having a favourites folder. It works.

- Nexflix is faster on this build by a million miles than the previous Dash. It seems the same as my PS3's now.

I like the lighter green from the previous iteration of metro. Why the different green? (see TV tab versus others)

I prefer the new darker green tiles personally, makes it easier to see the icon and text. I was never a fan of that lime green color.

Liking the update so far, everything feels tighter/faster. Being able to use IE to get web results from a voice activated search is a pretty neat gimmick.

Just watched some trailers in IE9 via Gametrailers.com using the "Download" option. Streamed just fine and quality was ok.

Is there a bug with pinning IE9 or is it just me? Tried pinning IE and it gives an error but it shows up on my list of pinned items. However when I try and launch it, it gives an error (80004005). I also don't like how selecting a pinned app doesn't immediately launch it. Instead it requires an extra click. The Delete, Download Again, and misc. options should be in the More options menu.

- Wrong. I'm watching videos. Hell, even Youtube works on it.

- Nope. My streaming is just fine.

- Game Store is INFINITELY better now. So much better

- Pinning isn't useful because you have to press down once to get to it? LOL.

- Netflix now loads as fast as it does on PS3.

This is exactly the kind of dumb post that is annoying during a beta like this. This is why Microsoft wants an NDA for users of this beta.

YOU ARE SAMPLING THIS DASHBOARD AT LEAST A MONTH OR TWO BEFORE IT'S COMPLETED.

The fact that a few things are a not working perfectly should not be surprising in the least. If it was done they would just release it to everyone right now.

why are people posting about Netflix? The app hasn't changed, unless there was an update for the app that I missed.

I got in but haven't been prompt to update. Anyway I can force it like the last time?

Did you redeem the key and then run the registration app on your 360? Even if you got the acceptance email you need to complete those two steps in order for the update to be pushed to your console(s).

Probably commenting on general app performance. May just be placebo effect but apps seem to be a little smoother and the title images loading a little faster?

I dunno. I appreciate the need to respect NDAs but look at what happened with the video/color bug in the last dashboard release. Known issue throughout the beta and wasn't fixed until months after release and only because we bitched enough to media outlets to get MS attention.
