XBox, lost remote, still have dongle (DVD)

Can I play my movie or not? This has been a shitty day and it just got worse. I just want to watch a damn DVD and I can't find my remote. The dongle is still in the XBox (non-modded) but I can't do anything with the controller.

Wow, someone help me please with some sort of button combo that will play my movie :(

If you have a PDA you can download some software to let it control your Xbox. I had to do that once when I lost my remote. Other then that, I'm not sure if universal remotes can be programmed to control it. :(

Universal Remotes can be programmed for the dongle. You need to use the RCA code for the universal remote. I'm sure you can't use the controller to start the movie

Unbelievable.

So Microsoft, even though I have the damn dongle, won't let me start the movie with a controller. Thanks a lot you forward thinking motherfuckers.

Seriously, I feel like God is testing me with a neverending barrage of minute bullshit to see if I'll snap today.

Well I've got no experience in setting up my Universal Remote, and I've had no luck thus far.

It says to keep "pressing" until the DVD player turns off. Did the XBox remote have the ability to turn on and off the XBox? I have no idea, never tried it.

So I decide to watch the movie on my PC, only to realize I don't have a dvd drive on my PC. Wow this is so not my day, and this is so not what I need right now.

I can't believe this, seriously. What is the rationale behind locking people out who have the dongle? It's not like the remote would work without it.

I wouldn't be surprised if he did such a thing. :)

Isn't life but one big exam?

Ok, you're right but that's not the point. The point is, by having the dongle I "prove" that I paid my DVD liscensing fees. The remote wouldn't work without it for obvious reasons, but there is no reason that by having that plugged in I shouldn't be able to start the DVD with the controller.

Or is there?

Anyway, I lose the remote to my TV and I can still turn it on. Same with my cable box or any odd dvd player I've had throughout the years. Now the XBox is my only DVD player, and it failed me last night because, I don't know, some backwards thinking.

Do not lose the remote to your (certain models) Toshiba TV under any circumstances. Geniuses decided no to put an A/V channel selector on the TV itself.

Ironic you say that as I have an old Toshiba TV. However it does have an A/V button. I think it's a 1987 model, so it was one of the first that had A/V channels in the first place, I guess the remote wasn't so "standard" then that they had to take the button off the TV :lol
