I hooked up my xbox to my router and set it up for static ip.. but when I tell it to test the connection it tells me Live has to update my xbox, but it can't download anything.. is this because I haven't subscribed to Live yet? Or is it because something in my network setup is wrong? Because I can't ping the xbox from the pcs on the network either..

why doesn't your router do dhcp?

check you have all your dns settings set as well....
