Xbox One Backwards Compatibility Thread: Everyone wants it, no one uses it

I assume you can buy it from Xbox.com on your browser on your Xbox One. Sounds like another excuse for something you were never going to buy anyway.
First of all, it was just one example of everything that's wrong with the service.

Second of all, why would I make excuses for something I'm not interested in? Why would I visit this thread if I'm not interested in BC?

You don't have to be so damn defensive, the service sucks right now, that's no lie.

If you're so convinced that implementing BC in the specific way you want is so easy, you're more than welcome to apply:

The reason you can't buy 360 games from the Xbox One is simple - the Store for Xbox One was completely rebuilt from the ground-up since the 360 is based on decade-old architecture. The catalogs are currently completely incompatible. Transferring licenses from Xbox 360 to Xbox One is a series of hacks that are luckily working pretty well, but were hacks explicitly enabled to support backwards compatibility.

But you said it's simple, so there must be something Microsoft is missing. I'm sure the team would love to hear your input!

Other than that, I'm confused about how "the execution has been a fucking mess since day one". "Day one" in this case was only a month ago - the day NXOE launched. It launched in exactly the state Microsoft promised - 100+ games at first, new games being added every month.

You can easily purchase a game from xbox.com or if you already have it, you just download and play. If you have a disc, you just put the disc in, download, and play.

It's all worked exactly as Microsoft promised 6 months ago when it was first announced. So execution, quite literally, could not have been better. The only thing I can think of is a few performance hitches here and there.

Has something happened with Geometry Wars? It was in my list previously, working fine.
Tried it today - says "Do you own this game?" etc. And it's no longer in the list of 360 games available.

Fired up the 360 and it's still there fine.

Other BC games work fine btw, it's just this one.

Geometry Wars didn't make it into the final list of backwards compatible titles, even though it was in preview. If you switch your console to offline mode, the game will run just fine.

They are still working on improving each games package which is good. Had updates for Beyond Good and Evil and Blood of Werewolf lately. I'm glad they don't release the games and just forget about them.

quick question: is the green dot that usually signifies that a game has been updated no longer appearing for you? I dont think ive seen it since they rolled out NXE

It's been gone since NXOE. An inconvenient omission :/

I need that back and prompting downloads from the Xbox site and Smartglass (I thought that was only going to be a missing feature during the Preview).

I really hope the new dashboard will see the same range of improvements as the previous one. There's definitely many features missing or in need of more polish.
Also still waiting for Cortana...

Are Xbox 360 games played on Xbox One supposed to require Xbox Live Gold for online play?

I've never owned an Xbox 360, but I have an Xbox One with the Gears of War series, and recently purchased Halo Reach to play over backwards compatibility.

I've never subscribed to Gold, and I am the only user on my system, yet for some reason I am allowed to play online multiplayer though the backwards compatible 360 games. Is this normal? Is there a "free weekend" I am not aware of? Does Xbox 360 still require gold for playing online? My Xbox One games all prompt me to subscribe to Gold when trying multiplayer.

My only gripe is that some games have bad input lag. The Sonic Genesis games are unplayable for me, it's reminiscent of the input lag I would get if I actually plugged my Genesis into my HDTV.

I don't get this input lag on my 360 or any non XB1 BC games.

I didn't notice it in Banjo Kazooie/Tooie or Perfect Dark, but Sonic 1-3 and Gears 3 it was noticeable.

That's weird, you should still need gold to play online with the 360 games.
No 'free weekend' stuff going on right now.

Man I forgot how ugly some 360 games were.

Halo Reach is still brilliant fun but it makes my eyes burn compared to H5 or even H4!

Thats the huge problem of old 3D games.

They mostly don´t age very well ;-)

Expecially if you are used to next-gen graphics you think the old games look better than they actually did :-)

I've got a huge backlog of 360 games to get through, and am in no rush to get an Xbox One but would like to give my 360 to my parents at some point... would you guys recommend I hold out and play all of the backwards compatible games on the Xbox One when I get it? Or just hold onto my 360 for a while longer and play them on there? Thanks!

I'd hold onto the 360, some games work well enough on the XBO but its not 100% perfect yet. There are noticeable input lag issues and glitches on games like Gears and Halo Reach.

So I recently got an Xbox One and I'm struggling to learn/get used to the UI, but when I first booted it up I saw a big list of BC X360 games waiting there in my gamelist for me to install.

Then the holidays hit and I didn't turn the system on for a few weeks and I come back and for whatever reason I can't find that list at all. Its like, vanished. I can still go into the store, search for the game and install that way, but having that list was WAY easier.

Anyone know how to find that list/have it re-populate? Its driving me crazy.

Go to "My Games & Apps", make sure you're on the games tab, scroll to the right past the games you've installed. All 360 BC titles available that you own will be in the "Ready to Install" area.

Unless I'm an idiot, I don't think that place exists anymore for me. I see the few titles I own for xbone, then the marketplace/store title.

EDIT: Yeah I just checked. Not there. Anyone else ever experience this/is there anyway to retrigger the list?

When you have it active, press the Xbox button to minimize the app and you will then back up to the home screen. While the app is highlighted in the home window with the white frame, you can then force-quit it with the Menu/old Start button. Restart the app and it will refresh the list.

I'm loving it, the best Halo campaign for me, i'm surprised how good it looks, its jaggy but i like it. Firefight is great also, runs shit it splitscreen but we still enjoyed it. Please remake or add to the MCC for download Microsoft. I quite like Halo 5 and i have only played through it once and will play it again someday but Reach imo makes it seem ( campaign ) poor in comparison.

On the One is one thing. But not being able to use credit buying online is pathetic for a company the size of MS. I don't trust many companies with my card so I just buy gift certs on Amazon and they are useless for BC titles.

Oh yeah the game itself is great! But the way it's aged (or maybe just the way it runs of BC) was jarring.

Reach, if any game, really deserved the MCC treatment. That game would have looked superb 1080/60, such an amazing art direction.

YES!!!!

This worked, thank you so much!

Has anybody produced any kind of objective lag testing results? I'm assuming Digital Foundry will eventually.

Oh, my. Don't try playing Rainbow Six Vegas then.

Reach is one of the better looking shooters of the entire last generation. The vast majority of them look a good deal worse.

Luckily 343 didn't include it in MCC. Or else I don't think Halo Reach would get the remaster service. Hopefully it's remastered in 2020 or something when it's the 10 years anniversary.

Not yet. Spencer says it's high on their priority list, but the fact that it's on multiple discs is troublesome (or was, last time it was mentioned). I'm sure they'll find a way...

Will patiently wait. my x360 is old and it makes so much noises and sometimes doesn't want to read discs or run digital games lol.

Any chance or hint that dark souls 1 will be back compat? About the only 360 game I care to replay (I shudder at the thought of blight town on BC though).

I think the biggest concern is that they don't want us to have to download an image for each disc. They want games like Lost Odyssey to be a single download, but they still need the game to let you know "hey save and change out disc". If they don't do this then it would allow somebody who only has disc 1 download the whole game and play it. To be honest I have 2 external hard rives connected. I would be ok with a download for each disc. Hopefully they will get it sorted out. Some of the other multidisc should be easy though, like Arkham Origins disc 2 is only for multiplayer. Just make disc 1 playable to start with so gamers can play the campaign. Some other ones only use disc 2 to install higher resolution textures, but only need disc 1 to run the game. Those should be easy as well, just include the textures in the single download.

I hope they figure this out.

My Xbox 360 is RROD and I could spend the money to try to fix it and that fix might be temporary assuming it works at all. Blue Dragon, Lost Odyssey, and Tales of Vesperia (I never got around to actually playing this one for some reason.) are games I need to be on that BC list. Especially those last two. Fable 2 and 3 are already there as is Fallout 3 (does the DLC work?). Even if there are only a few Xbox One games that interest me between now and the end of its life, being able to play my Xbox 360 games would make me feel a lot more justified in the purchase.
