Xbox One Backwards Compatibility Thread: Everyone wants it, no one uses it

Yeah, we're still lucky to have gotten any backwards compatible games at all, but the way they've been touting the initiative I'm guessing they hit some serious roadblocks somewhere along the line. It's disappointing, but we can't really complain, considering backwards compatibility was still in the realm of impossibility over a year ago.

That, or they're preparing a massive 100+ game extravaganza when we least expect it.

I'm guessing the former.

I've still got my 360 hooked up and will continue to do so because I still play OG Xbox games.

So this doesn't really matter to me right now, but I do support the initiative.

Quick question - if I buy GoW:UE, would my copies of GoW2 and GoW3 be available to play on my XB1?

I seem to remember there was a promotion that enabled BC for all titles, if you bought UE before a certain date... which I didn't:)

MS officially confirming the games are coming to bc vs. a rumoured collection.

That Collection isnt really a rumor.. That rating board leaked other collections and titles in the past.

The Gears games are already playable.

Yeah like Gears 3 and others on PC.

A collection doesn't mean they won't make it BC either. The Bioshock collection has been rumoured for a lot longer than the BC announcement, MS wouldn't announce it if they weren't going to release it.

The gears games are playable, the BC promo was giving you the games for free if you bought the UE edition. You no longer get them but you can use your already owned copy of the games or buy a new copy and play it no problems.

I remember reading some article by... I think it was the x360 achievement guys, and the big point of it was that Xbox 360 games via Backward compatibility was region free. I'll have to dig up the article, and I'm not sure how that would work, either... Maybe they changed their region or something.

Oh, I guess it's not a store thing, just using BC enabled imported discs.

I think that it has to do with the fact that you aren't running the disc per se, but instead a downloaded package that IS region free. It would be great to have a source for that!

The article I read just linked to this... this thing from the xbox achievements website. I still don't really fully understand it. His big deal about it is for getting achievements in the same game from different regions using different discs from other regions.

So I guess when you download the game when putting in a different region's game disc in it'll grab that region's digital version of the game. I mean, it has to, right since they have different sets of achievements?. I don't have any BC-ready imported games so I haven't done any of this myself. I imagine if you'd want to get a different region game from the Xbox store you'd have to change your console's region or whatever it is the cool kids do nowadays, but I've never done this myself either.

The only imported game I have that is BC is the Japanese version of Gears 2. Once you put in the disc it will install a separate game file from the US version, so you can have multiple versions of the same game installed. The disc will be required to be in the console to play the JP version, no matter if you have a digital copy from another region. I have not checked since the BC store went live on Xbox One, but to buy a digital copy from another region you need to be on a 360 from that region. Simply changing the region on a NTSC console will not allow you to buy games only available on NTSC-J or PAL console marketplace.

Oh, thanks for clarifying that for me. The only thing I did involving different region stuff was make a Japanese account to download a Japanese demo, but that was a long, long time ago (either Tales of Vesperia or Eternal Sonata. I think it was Vesperia and the demo wasn't good anyways).

Still no Dark Souls

I almost feel like something is going on over at Xbox. Things are just weird lately.

I'm as disappointed as the next guy about this not being available yet, but I don't think that this raises any sort of red flags.

It'll come, just not when you want it to. Just like everything else gaming related.

Still no Halo Wars :( probably they are saving it as a pre order bonus for Halo Wars 2
I think Halo Wars is the only console Halo release left before every single Halo console game is playable on the XB1. I'm mostly just waiting on Dark Souls because I own it but only ever beat the first boss to get out of the Asylum.

Anyone else having trouble buying bc games from the xbox site? All I get is a message saying that there's a glitch in the system. I asked them on their forums and support twitter but I never got a response. I just got my Xbox One and want to play South Park: The Stick of Truth.

Getting BC titles after the game is out is mostly how it's been so far but it is also dumb. I won't touch Dark Souls 1 after DS3 is out. But right now I would definitely squeeze in a run.

Make it a proper pre-order incentive, that you gives you something at the time of pre-order.

Starting to miss all of the games from last gen that I may just pick up a last gen system just to play them again.

XB1 BC looks like it has really slowed down :(

We are still missing the original Firefight from Halo 3 ODST but yeah you are right, Halo Wars is the last one

Halo Wars is strange because Stinkles posted here last year saying that it was planned to be one of the first games available or something along those lines, I'm surprised it hasn't showed up yet.

Halo Wars 2 pre-order / digital purchase bonus.

Well yeah but that's no reason to hold it back really though I know some will, I don't think MS would. I do think that the vast majority of games where it makes sense to that MS has the marketing rights to will come with BC versions from now on though.

Gears collection with Gears 4 again, Mass Effect collection with MEA, Mirrors Edge with MEC, etc.

I'm still surprised people thought it was coming before DS3 after some other pre-order bonus BC games.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but every pre-order bonus bc game was playable before the next installment released, right?(Just Cause 2, Rainbow Six Las Vegas)

Edit: Okay. I thought Fallout 3 was somehow bc before Fallout 4 released.

I pulled mine out of the closet. Lots of good stuff plus it plays OG Xbox too. I'm going to go through shenmue 2 soon.

This BC stuff really is neat, but it was overhyped and publishers don't give a shit. It'll never be a good substitute for having a real 360.

Quick question, is there a possibility to see 360 bc coming to pc ? Huge potential here. Let's even imagine you could tweak the engine and add AA or that kind of stuff. Would be pointless for titles that are already on pc but vanquish bayonetta and microsoft ip would be perfect.

I wouldn't get your hopes up.

At all.

For what its worth, I said the same thing for Xbox One BC.

OR

OR

OR

you can be patient and realize that a service that is being provided FOR FREE is not going to ever get a massive resource investment.

or you could watch Spencer's last E3 reveal and see that HE thought this was going to be BIG and thus..... people were expecting there to be a lot lot more 360 games by now (nearly a year since the reveal).

same for me.

i just bought a 360E earlier this week because of the lack of BC updates and i've already downloaded 46 360 games so far. think i'll just continue to download my 360 games and just forget about BC like MS appear to have.

I really hope this feature actually takes off but it's starting to feel like it never will. I would have at least expected more MS published titles to be BC by now.
