Xbox One Backwards Compatibility Thread: Everyone wants it, no one uses it

That's cool. Hopefully the dedicated store comes soon. The low amount of titles available so far means it won't be as shitty to navigate as the regular Xbone storefront is.

Man don't get me started on the New Addons area. Fucking infuriating

YES KINGS QUEST EPILOGUE IS STILL THERE
AND A LOT OF PREORDER SHIT

Get through the preorder shit? Great news

ROCK BAND 4 SONGS ALL YEAR

for fuck's sake!

I don't know how they could have gone from such a great storefront on 360 to what they have now.
"Hey guys, you know how we have categories for damn-near everything, even individual sections sorted by letter? Yeah, scrap all that and just put every piece of content available in a big fucking list. If they want to find something, let 'em use the website."

sigh
Another day, I see the thread on the GAF first page. Another day I see that there are no new BC games, just people expressing all forms of frustration/anger/disappointment about a myriad of issues.

Still no Dark Souls.

For me there is now a backwards compatible row in the store-and the 360 GWG shows up alonhside the XboxOne games.

I made a reference to Fable Anniversary backwards compatibility in the Lionhead Closure thread but man, here is hoping it eventually gets added. I'm just waiting on that and Assassin's Creed Rogue. I already went out and bought a copy of Rogue and regularly look at how much Fable Anniversary is going for.

They haven't done much lately at all, very disappointed, not that I want to play a bunch of old 360 games but theres a couple I had hope for (Left 4 Dead 2 and SSX)

…I think I might hang onto my 360 for the XBLA games I don't think will make the jump (Guwange, Darkstalkers, etc). Was initially going to sell it to make room but I don't think enough titles will be brought over to justify me getting rid.

Yeah, things have gotten pretty bad. BC was pretty exciting for a while, but lately it feels like MS is moving away from it.

I think there are three factors at play here:

1) The X1 CPU is simply not fast enough to maintain the speed of emulation in games that pushed the 360's CPU. Maybe they thought they could optimize around this, but the state of Reach and a few other titles leaves me to believe this may be as good as it is going to get on the X1. At least if they release a successor or a "+" version of the console the BC games should run a lot closer to the 360 versions.

2) Licensing's a bitch. I think many titles are being held up or will never release because of licensing issues. As someone pointed out with one of the COD games, it's just not as simple as Activision giving the OK. Any licensed music in the game will either have to be re-licensed or expunged, and it's simply not worth the expense to third parties to pursue this.

3) Some pubs are clearly holding onto their BC titles to use as enticements for pre-orders.

i downloaded rdr as soon as it was announced it worked.....then they took it away from me and it sits itching at me on the menu :(

Let's not forget that you had to jump through some hoops to get that game when you did. They did not put it on the store and they clearly never intended the public to have it. So it's hard for me to be upset about, especially since the game didn't run that great (IMO).

Every time there are new posts in this thread I'm scrolling down slowly hoping to see DARK SOULS OUT !!!

I've almost given up hope on it coming out before DS3. The codes were given out almost a week ago,so if they had any intention of making it BC, it should have happened by now.

Of course, they'll probably release it the same day DS3 comes out, making playing it pointless until most people beat the newer game.

This is one case I so want to be wrong though ;\

This is a good point, and one I was thinking about recently. If they do indeed design new hardware with the idea of letting us bring our digital library with us like on a PC, the Xbox 360 BC games should come too.

I think you are correct. I was hoping to play thru it prior to DS3 but not anymore

I preordered Doom from Best Buy after watching the multiplayer trailer.

Are there BC codes for Doom I and II with the preorder?

this has been a real dry spell for games becoming bc, think there are some strong games available but still waiting for a handful of games. they put skullgirls so at least one good fighting game but nothing else which is real sad.

Also why is it that most games are now on the one store and can buy most of them but for whatever reason mirrors edge doesn't show up on the page and the price is not available when you actually specifically search for it.

Well their BC plan is starting to work on me, since because of the 360 marketplace on Xone I bought Earthworm Jim HD yesterday, and enjoyed it a lot. I remember not being entirely convinced by the demo at the time (and I still think there's something "off" with the updated graphics), but the user-recorded videos did help a lot. I just watched a few ones that made me laugh, and I decided "ok I'm in".
Although the video clips had the opposite effects for Tron Evolution (or 2.0 or whatever, the one that is BC), I was considering its purchase but I didn't see anything very thrilling in the captures (except for the cool "jump forward and have a light cycle appear around you).

Does anyone know if the BC games available are region locked on the Xbox One Store?

Bill Stillwell, the head of the Backward Compatibility team, was on the Microsoft twitch stream today and answered a lot of questions about what goes into each title and some of the technical problems. The archived stream can be watched here. https://www.twitch.tv/microsoftstudios/v/53393877

This is excellent detail...eventually when they get the emulator to the right place they will just be able to release games quickly after they have played through all their content

I remember reading some article by... I think it was the x360 achievement guys, and the big point of it was that Xbox 360 games via Backward compatibility was region free. I'll have to dig up the article, and I'm not sure how that would work, either... Maybe they changed their region or something.

Oh, I guess it's not a store thing, just using BC enabled imported discs.

I don't know what happens with the bc program with no releases at all practically.Feels like they stopped to launch games¿¿?¿?

The lack of news is frustrating, but exactly what kind of news do you want/expect? Anything they could say would either be construed as a promise ("We're working on X, we hope to release it soon" leads to "What the fuck Microsoft, you promised us this weeks ago", etc.) or could put publishers on the spot ("We're waiting on publisher clearance of X and X" or "Publisher Y wants to wait until Z game is release") and strain relationships. There's not a whole lot that could be said without raising at least just as many issues as not saying anything.

Weren't they promising over 100+ titles? Somehow if that's the case, they picked 96 I don't own.

The list is right there in the OP. All 123 games.

Agree.

This "when its ready" approach is cool and all but we had 3 or so weeks gone by and no new games got added. God i still have RDR on my XboxOne but cant play it Online.

What if Microsoft are waiting to reveal new BC games until the new dashboard update is on Xbox One? The update with Xbox 360 game store on Xbox One.

They've already said they won't be holding games for any sort of mass reveals. They're releasing whenever the game runs well enough to ship and the publisher signs off.

No, they promised far more. They said something like a hundred now and hundreds more in the months to come. Will probably still happen, it's just annoying that things are moving so slowly and they aren't communicating more clearly.
