Xbox One: Details on Connectivity, Licensing (24 hour check-in) and Privacy Features

Remember this particular line of bollocks from EA:

“Initially launched as an effort to package a full menu of online content and services, many players didn’t respond to the format,” Reseburg said. “We’ve listened to the feedback and decided to do away with it moving forward.”

Really? How do you think 'players will respond' to it on a whole title basis? Will you be 'listening to the feedback' then?

The first time they pull this pre owned tax on the Xbone, the gaming media has to be all over them.

About as odd as the KINECT ALWAYS WATCHING YOU

oOOoooOooO Conspiracy... :P

It sucks being a "fanboy", i guess. I want to like this console, I want gaming to move forward, I want Gamestop to fuck off... But until PS4 comes out with their policies i'm questioning myself.

Lol
Don't make me dig into my post history. I've been accused of being an Xbot on GAF since 2001. Well, until it started to look like MS was dropping the ball on Xbone, at least. I even defended Kinect. Eww.
And why do you want to like it? You haven't even bought it yet. Who cares?
Like something because it's likeable, not because of self-hypnosis.

I do have to wonder why MS is bothering with this, they could have just done nothing and waited for retail to go away, and then everyone would just be accepting the digital ownership model that already takes away lending and used games.

So many junior apologists. It's just crazy and disgusting, given the matter XD

There is absolutely 0% chance I will own a Xbox One at this point, with these practices. Thankfully there are still viable alternatives out there. And if Sony pulls the same trick, I won't get the PS4 either.

So I've been reading all the fallout over the last couple of weeks and am so glad I'm a PC gamer.

I reckon I could almost live with the draconian rules surrounding used/lent games but the killer for me is always on internet for the unit and always on Kinect.

Actually scratch that first part of the sentence above. As a PC gamer using Steam I can't lend games or buy used games but the fact is games are less than half the price of console games so it's not a problem to drop some cash on a game I might not like.

And Steam isn't the only place for games, I can still find physical second hand games

There is just no need for it.

I'm a big fan of the Xbox but I just don't think I can buy into this... If the PS4 is the same then I'll just have to use the Wii U as my primary console & stick to the PC.

My household internet goes down all the time & sometimes for more than 24 hours. My connection wont be impoved until I move homes (which isnt going to happen anytime soon).

So half the rumors that GAF trusted users confirmed proven false yet everyone is still on the hate train. Wow, alright ability to trade games with friends, no fees, able to have your entire library from any console, share with up to ten family members, ect.. Sounds like some great things, the industry has to evolve and it will with or without your consent. People fear change, yet in the end when it is the standard will learn to accept it.

You like authoritarianism eh?.

Restrictions are great things!

Hooray for Microsoft for putting limitations on what I do with my purchases! Hooray!

Will be interesting to compare pricing with PC gaming vs console gaming this new generation with its game prices, online fees, rental blocks etc.

It's already obvious that the new consoles are still incredibly behind PC. With all the new restrictions it makes me reconsider if PC isn't really the way to go forthright

Yeah, I also think its totally awesome that we lose our consumer rights like trading a game to whoever we want.

And it will also be so awesome, that all the small private gametrader are going to lose their jobs.

A junior that gets it. They aren't all bad. ;-)

This is the best solution, but sadly the masses will still support MS and Sony(if they go full DRM) regardless and they'll continue to take our consumer rights and the mass majority will just be okay with it.
Which isn't okay AT ALL.

Because I own an Xbox and a 360, the timing is just coincidence. I really like Cerny and alot of things the PS4 are doing and will most likely buy one if I like the titles released on it. Unlike alot of people on here and other sites I have never had a problem with MS and I don't understand the massive hate because it seems that everything that comes out no matter how positive it is, is picked apart. Yet if Sony were to do the same thing it would be praised, talk about your double-standards.
No. There is not some anti Microsoft agenda here. Simply people voicing their concerns over anti consumer practices. I'm quite certain if Sony did the same, we'd have as much disappointment with their policies.
Probably more because they have already mentioned a few things that suggest the opposite.

Just read the OP and wow.

So if I give a game to my friend (who has been in my list for 30 days), once they activate the game on their console it can't be moved anymore? What if I would like that game back?

How big is this console? So on Monday, people at work are going to be exchanging consoles instead of games to avoid this. Hilarious.

Unless I misinterpreted and the "loaning" party can get the game back.

And families have library access? What is the verification process for family? If it's found I gave access to a non-family member (or an in-law, or a cousin with a different surname) do I get banned and lose all my games?

If I'm banned, can the console still do the 24h check-in?

See, I don't want to be asking these questions. If I have a console and a disc, the disc should play in the console. Now I gotta have piles of discs. This is the family pile, the friends pile, the used pile, the bought new pile.

Yeesh.

Sorry if this has been answered but I just got up and this thread is too massive and fast.

So that's it, I'm done with Microsoft consoles. It's gonna be PS4 for me, unless they go a similar route. In that case, I'll save up money for a gaming PC. This 2009 xkcd comic more or less describes my philosophy on gaming:
http://xkcd.com/606/
(And I actually am playing Portal for the first time this summer, lol.)

I've been buying one or two new games a year, otherwise it's all older used games on the cheap. So this DRM thing affects me big time - but not for a few years. In the meantime, I have an extensive backlog of games from this gen to play. It doesn't stem my outrage or concern, though. This is gonna end up hitting me where it hurts - in the wallet. I simply cannot afford this hobby if I have to buy all my games new.

:lol

Bish, plz, press the big shiny red button!

That's an amazing gif.
I wonder if it would be unethical for the mods to just lay it all out for us, or point the way for some intrepid journalist willing to piss a whole bunch of people off.

A new generation of games with power from the cloud: Because every Xbox One owner has a broadband connection, developers can create massive, persistent worlds that evolve even when you’re not playing.
So they already state that everyone who buys a Xbone has broadband. Isn't that a bit weird?

In the months ahead, we will continue to listen to your feedback as we meet with our partners in the ecosystem to bring additional detail about our policies.
Yes, I see you have listened to us.

Are you for real or you get paid ?

Wow. I always though all that talk about viral marketers infiltrating this place was paranoia, but this is pretty special.

If its like this here I'd hate to see how it is on the Reddit gaming sub. That place was already a hotbed of marketing employees, and it seems they're going all out on damage control here.

Just read the OP and holy shit wow this awful.

You've just eliminated many sales on your part Microsoft, that's just wow. You've put the convenience of your partners over the convenience of your consumers, that's awful.

I just hope Sony won't do it too.

Is there a summary of these 123 pages? Are people OK with policies?

Pretty much not, unless you count the virals. (several of them confirmed)

I just hope all this negative hype actually does something. I think the problem will be if everything is business as usual when Microsoft launches and gamers still buy their console anyway.

Unless we see some kind of crazy revolution where the system is literally boycotted, I don't think MS is going to change their minds.

..either that OR Sony has some completely insane exclusive sitting in the back which will compel every gamer to just forget about Microsoft and switch sides.

The drama, man, this is one crazy E3.

Oh and don't forget to fuck the servicemen, and anyone in a rural area....not like those hicks drink beer and play madden all day or anything...

- Xbox One funeral party
- Tons of juniors banned over being viral marketers (and this paid wave still didn't stop yet)
- BenKuchera is a dick
- Kaz and rest of Sony probably now dancing naked.

This is bloody ridiculous. Surely this has to be conflicting with EU law in some way. This is the biggest piece of anti-consumer crap I've ever seen.

Sony don't do it!

The trolls and shills are sickening. How can anyone defend this?

- Online check ins
- Can't borrow games
- Can't rent games
- You can ONLY share and play on 10 other consoles using your account. Yeah, because MS will TOTALLY let you and your buddies take advantage that. lol
- Can only trade in your games at certain stores..........Only if crazy nice companies like EA and Ubisoft let you. L..O...L

People happy for no fees...there's no fees because you can't fucking do anything! The rumor before was if you let your buddy borrow the game to play on his account there will be a fee... Well now you can't borrow at all! Yeah, sounds great.

So MS, keep your console, keep your moneyhats, exclusive DLC, your experiences, and all your timed exclusives. I will not buy the X1 ever unless they drop these restrictions. Honestly hope and pray it flops hard. The gaming industry does NOT need to go into this direction.

Does Xbox Live Gold still count as a fee?
