Xbox One Launch Thread [Thread being archived 1/1/14]

So question for those who are lucky enough to go with Xbox One+PS4 with camera... How are you setting it up? I'm kind of in a unique position because my PS4 camera HAS to be on top of the TV so I'm trying to figure out where to fit Kinect in. Bottom of TV is no go because it's got a bulky stand(from '07) :/

What sort of setup do you have? Ideally waist high is the consensus, but between 0.6m and 1.8m is optimal. If you have an entertainment unit, stick it there if it's high enough

XB1 is in the ps3's spot now. On top of the front speaker?

I just sat with my neighbor while he set up his new One. That controller is fucking godly. The 360 king is dead, long live the new Xbox One controller King. Looking forward to trying out his system more tomorrow when he's got it fully set up.

Yeah - I'm sitting here with a One controller on one side and the 360 controller on the other side. The 360 controller looks like a lunking mess now, whereas yesterday it was the nicest controller I've ever owned.

I got my PS4 camera on top and my Kinect will be under since I've got the TV sitting on a good stand. I don't know how to help you. But, yeah, that's what I'm doing. Is your TV wide enough to mount you Kinect on top next to the PS4 camera?

Impulse purchase'd one from the Microsoft Store, where they're currently in stock. Look for a post in the Buy/Sell thread soon, while I try to figure out how I'm gonna afford this.

30 minutes is too long on that screen. I'd suggest turning it off and on again, but I'm reckless.

I was stuck on another screen for too long, rebooted and it was fine.

Yeah I've been stuck there for over 30 minutes now. You think that's what I should do? Turn it off with the power button or unplug it?

Update downloading...

Odd start with that long green screen and pulsing controller.. mine took some work to get synced.

But all seems good now, update is going very fast.

That still doesn't look high enough, but if you don't want it for body motion straight away, stick it anywhere.

Actually that might be high enough - can you lift up the TV at all so that the Kinect doesn't block it? It probably will still work - you can tilt it up.

Failing that, there's something like this: http://www.instructables.com/id/3-DIY-Kinect-TV-Mount/

I know people have made similar stands with jewel CD cases (there was one in this thread a while back). For my old Kinect, when I had a setup like yours, I got some sheet metal similar to the one in my first link and drilled holes in it and bolted it to the TV using the holes the TV attached to a wall mount bracket with.

For now though, just stick it wherever and don't worry about motion tracking until you come up with a plan.

Did you reboot it yet flash? Or are you going to wait a little longer?

I don't know what to do now. When I first set it up I noticed that I was stuck at the green screen for a while and then unplugged it because the power button wasn't working. I unplugged my Ethernet chord and then tried again. Got back to the loading screen and after a few minutes the screen wacked out all white noise like and then went black. I turned it off a minute or two after that and then turned it back on. I have been at the green screen for 40 minutes now with nothing happening.

Does the power button work? I heard someone had issues and then they tried it without the Kinect hooked up and it went through ok. Perhaps try that.

Reporting in from Wal Mart, yes I made it out alive after only 90 minutes of wandering around Tue sir to get my games and system.

They had many XB1's left over, non pre orders.

Have you thought about making a twitch stream about your attempts to repair it. I heard they can entertain people for hours and hours.

I'll give the power button a shot. I'll try it with Kinect in first.

according to Shipwreck the green screen stays for a little while then it comes on to update

@Shipwreck: When you first turn on your Xbox One it shows a green Xbox One screen for long enough to make you think "Noooooooo!!!!". But it's fine.

Just got back from the Xbox One launch party in NYC.

Had no idea the launch was tonight, but a friend calls me up and invites me to it (VIP pass) randomly at 10pm, and I thought, "Why the hell not?"

Made it just in time for Mackelmore, who was pretty good (not his biggest fan, but he's very entertaining nonetheless). Didn't play any of the games, but it was a cool event.

Honestly, the biggest highlight for me was seeing Geoff Keighley in person. During the commercial break just before the countdown to midnight he was being kind of a dick to all the Microsoft reps. It was obvious to me because I know he's a Sony fanboy, but man did he look awkward and annoyed on stage for a while there.

I'm not really sure. It's a 50" TV...

Might just have to jury rig it have tape the PS4 camera on top of the Kinect. Though I wonder if that would cause overheating issues...

Dead

well not really...yet
God help me, I actually set up the kinect.

update going pretty fast. Nice.

officially retired my 360. No more space.

Once I get a new entertainment center and a new power center I will have enough space for it again.

You should point the cameras at each other and wait for inception.

There are vents on top of the Kinect and mine's fairly warm at the moment. I wouldn't block it.
