Xbox One Launch Thread [Thread being archived 1/1/14]

Jeff Gerstmann posted that he has only been able to play the free version of KI so far but he is really liking what he has played so far. He specifically mentions liking the tutorial mode which if you have ever heard Jeff talk about fighting games he always is very critical about how awful their tutorial modes are.

They do, if you don't dodge or parry on higher difficulties you die a lot.
 
We just need Ryse to sell well so Microsoft can start it as a franchise. I think given a full 2 years without a buggy XDK because it's pre launch, a sequel could really shine.

At this point, I'm sure they will nitpick at everything they can and talk about not about what the game is, but what is not... however, based on my two brief times with the game and what I've seen lately, I know I will have fun with it.

Come Friday RYSE will be mine.
 
I got a chance to play the One again but this time with all launch games at an Area One event in San Francisco. I also met Larry Herb, who's a pretty stand up guy. After playing everything I could get my hands on, I decided that I'd probably wait a year or two before purchasing the Xbox One. None of the games really impressed me, though, I guess you could say it's because they're launch games. My game of the event was Killer Instincts. It plays way better than I imagined it to be.

If I was choosing between Ryse (or any other new game that looks to have some potential) and a game in the Assassins Creed series I will always choose the new game.
I own all the AC games previous to Black Flag and I have loved them all. But I have never seen a series so consistently drop in price soon after release as AC.
I now wait 60-90 days for AC games and I always save at least $30. Sometimes more.
 
I think I'm deciding on Ryse: Son of Rome and NBA 2K14.

The thing is, that all the launch game look good but there's not one standout title, at least to me. So it has been hard to decide on which to pick up. :)

I were all for Zoo Tycoon but it really doesn't seem to have the depth I want, so I'll probably just go back to RollerCoaster Tycoon for that fix, while Dead Rising 3 seem to have lost some of its humour, style and especially colour palette - I don't wanna run around in a great open world city.

Really cool to see some good reviews across the board for Dead Rising 3 and Killer Instinct. It's a pity about some of the Crimson Dragon scores, but like anything I'll try it for myself and decide. I'll probably still end up getting that one.

Oh yes, DR3 will be great.

So upset I cancelled my day one from Amazon in Sept. Was going to wait it out until Spring. Can't preorder anywhere in the States now. Hoping for some stock this weekend.

Release day (midnight) on Amazon. They had a ton of PS4's in stock at that point. I expect it to be the same with the XB1.
 
Its funny the Xbox One wikipedia page has a disproportionately big section section named 'Controversies'. The whole page is very negative compared to the comparatively positive PS4 page, which includes lots of quotes and evidence that it is the second coming.

Xboners you need to work on your propaganda!
 
Glad to see that the digital titles also have the full 1000 Gamerscore this generation. I often spent just as much time on XBLA games as full retail titles on the 360, but the point differences seemed strange sometimes.

This is what happens when one console is cheaper than the other. Frankly who cares, the console is so close to release. The wiki page is not going to change anything.
 
Ryse for me is the equivalent of KZ:Shadowfall out on PS4. I'm going to buy it and play it, and then be depressed as it turns out exactly as I expected: a mediocre sp campaign riddled with clichés and boring gameplay, but the game will be incredibly beautiful and act as a harbinger for the future capabilities of their respective systems.

That being said, KZ had about fourty-five minutes or so of really kick-ass gameplay, so there's hope for ryse, and I didn't play MP which most people in the KZ thread seem really psyched about.
 
I've been pretty negative toward Microsoft for many months now, but I think I'm going to jump in the pool and pick one up Friday. I already have a Wii U and a PS4, and in the end I don't care about anything but playing games that I like, and I figure the X1 is going to get exclusives that I would really enjoy.

Probably going to grab Dead Rising 3, just because of how fun it looks. Is there offline co-op in that game, by the way?

I'm also in the "no preorder" boat as well, which has me nervous. Thankfully a friend of mine works at a VA Hospital and for some strange reason a store inside of the hospital will be getting X1's, and when you purchase them at that store there is no sales tax... So I am going to get him to be there when they open and grab me one.

My thoughts on Killzone are the same. Pretty game but just wasn't feeling it at all. I might give it another shot though.On the other hand AC 4 has surprisingly been great fun to play which gives me a bit more hope for Ryse.
 
Has anyone else had their Xbox One ship?

I got an email from the Microsoft Store at 6am EST this morning saying mine had shipped, but it didn't say shipping time and the UPS tracking number they gave me doesn't work on UPS's site yet.

Dunno if this matters, but I had to change my shipping address last month after I moved and it was a huge hassle. Had to end up calling the Microsoft Store and then had my matter escalated before they could change the address. They ended up canceling my Day One Preorder and giving me a new Day One Preorder with the title line "Xbox One Day One Edition - CSS Escalations Only," which is one possible explanation for why mine has shipped if no one else's has.

Or maybe Microsoft Store is doing slow shipping so I still won't get it until Friday -- anyone else?

Some stores (including the Microsoft store I believe, but I'm not sure) will mail you a shipping notice as soon as the shipping label is issued. If the UPS tracker doesn't work, it means that your console is still sitting in the store warehouse, with an UPS label on it, waiting for UPS to pick it up. The pick up has been sceduled, but it could be scheduled for tomorrow or wednesday for all you know.

When the UPS tracking thing starts to work, is when it's really happening.
 
I liked the stream, both dr3 and ryse look pretty good. The qte's were worrisome a couple of months ago, but they look to be optional and parrying and such with your shield and striking right seems like it will be more important as the enemies get tougher.

Also seeing the chat on the twitch feeds makes me glad to be on a site like this. Like honestly why get up to watch an x1 stream just to type garbage after garbage?

Someone wants to buy my preorder.

However, I'd take that profit and roll it into a console for myself. Anywhere to preorder one any more?
 
I realized that one of the things I like so much about the Xbox One controller are the little grippy tire treads on the thumbsticks. It's a small touch but feels great.
