But seriously, the way MS harped on about Kinect being so essential to the XBone, I highly doubt this will come out, especially so soon in Summer.
 
I think the last thing Microsoft want is people waiting for a huge price drop for a kinectless sku. The 'I'll buy one at 1/2/399' folks with specific conditions too.
 
they should compete with PS+ better as well. everytime a game list is revealed for PS+, sony gets a ton of free positive buzz.
 
They really do need to do this. A lot of people just don't care about it or actively DO NOT WANT it.

And if Kinect so great, why isn't there a big launch game for it that is a system seller? Don't make people pay for something they don't even know if they want.


Man, I can't believe how many Mistakes MS made with the Xbone. I guess they expected Sony to follow the same path and when Sony didn't (on DRM, having motion controls included, used games, etc.), Microsoft got hammered.
 
This is something I didn't expect. Was sure MS would just reduce the price by a 100$ before removing Kinect. The whole UI is build around that thing for christ sake!

Pretty much. As a PS4 owner, the only thing that would get me to buy an Xbox One is a $350 bundle with either Titanfall or Halo 5...maybe Quantum Break. It's purely an exclusives machine for me, don't gouge me on this shit.

I can't see them dropping Kinect. The whole console was designed around it. Dropping it would be admitting that basically the entire philosophy and vision behind the One was wrong, and I don't think the One can survive or stand up to the competition as a standalone, games-focused console, even with a lower price point.
 
I would absolutely purchase a Xbox One if this were to occur. There are some great exclusives I want to enjoy, and I would think this would help alleviate the force-feeding of motion gaming that developers have to go through. That seems win-win for everyone.
 
I think the boat has sailed, even selling cheaper than the PS4 isn't going to even out the sales now that the gaming community has accepted that the PS4 will always have the best versions.
 
Still too rich for my blood. $300 and a game and I'm there. Really want to play Killer Instinct and Crimson Dragon.

Still, it's good that the price is coming down.

Joe Consumer doesn't really care about the difference at this point. If it's the same price, it's preference and what your friends have. The games look close enough for a mainstream buyer.
 
I understand why they want to push Kinect, but no one is really taking advantage of it. Should have offered it as an optional sku to begin with.

They did it with the digital, "always online" plan. To me I wouldn't sense this as defeat. I would see it as actually listening to their customers, which is quite admirable.
 
Good thing I supported MS by buying my Xbox One at launch just so they can pull that Kinect garbage out to drop the price after they repeatedly said they would never pull Kinect from the SKU. Yay me.

Doing this so quickly would probably piss off your original buyers especially if they remember all the " Xbox one will not operate without connect ", " kinect will always be included with Xbox One " talk

And then you have any developers making kinect games based on the userbase of kinect owners being 1:1 with the console potentially being pissed at this.

It is pretty telling though that most third party games use the Touch Pad on the DS4 but most so not even touch the kinect functionality. The original thought of the X1 sure was a massive judgement error
 
Would rather Kinect not be dropped so that it continues to be integrated at the OS level and games support it naturally but if that's what has to be happen for a price drop then so be I suppose. Sales aren't abysmal by any means yet, PS4 is just doing really well. Wonder how Titanfall will affect things given it's being marketed as a big Xbox One title despite being on the PC and 360.
 
Abandoning the Kinect would be such a massive admission of failure. That's a huge part of the Xbox One's identity.

I'll believe it when I see it.

The Xbox One has changed it's identity almost every month since the initial reveal.

Coming from someone who just bought a PS4, it may be weaker technically but it's got a better game lineup currently. I'm having a hard time finding games to even buy for PS4 that I don't already have for XB1.
