Xbox One- what would it take to get YOU to buy one ?

Xbox last gen was my first choice preference before launch. Within two years it became the worst.

To get me to buy another Microsoft product they would have to go back in time, prevent rrod from ever being a thing, and slap Peter Moore in his lying chops for that flippant things break dismissal of their lack of quality control.

Because I have a pretty darn good PC currently and if you want to "sell" me on getting a console it better have games on it that I couldn't play on my PC. You buy a Wii U knowing that no Nintendo games are going to ever come on the PC.

Basically the gist of it is that i'm not wasting money on a bad console in order to play the worse version of a game.

You must play by yourself, with others online alot, forgot what magic couch co-op is.

599.00 USD, have we forgotten?

And you don't have to buy multiple consoles. I'm not buying a PS4 till there's a drastic price drop. There's nothing on the system that interests me that I can't play elsewhere.

At the end of the day console makers are in it for the cheese. If they are the only game in town, they are going to take you to the cleaners. It's not that hard to figure out.

No, nobody forgot, they just choose to black it out.

Just like the Geohot mess...

All because of a stupid, misleading cutesy video about sharing...

The point is that a lack of competition is bad for gamers as it will lead to a lack of innovation and increased prices.

I would have to say this is false because when the NES , SNES , PS1 & PS2 was dominating the competition we still got amazing games & the dev studios wasn't going under one by one.

I don't spend more time playing games because I own a Ps4, Xbox One and a gaming PC.

But the fact that I'm not bound to one platform gives me more choice and freedom.

Im here for the games, not to defend and hold on tight to just one platform.

Sure and that's awesome.

But MOST people don't see spending over $1500 on gaming platforms just to have diversity as worth it.

That's my point. It's great for the enthusiast, but you most people don't see their gaming time as being worth more than a single platform and then buying games.

Give me a Gears of War bundle at a decent price. That would probably do it. If there's no way to play the new Gears except on XB1, then I'll give it a go. At the moment there aren't those big IPs there that you can't get anywhere else. If the new Mass Effect also launches as a bundle, then I'd get that as well. I think I feel the same way.

After rrod, vista and wp7 its not a matter of grudges. It's a matter of not wasting money on hollow Microsoft promises.

RROD was so bad? I had one, and it was taken care of for me, for free, and that xbox still works great to this day. Net impact? I had to play Fallout 3 on my pc for a while before I got my xbox back to continue L4D with my friends and netflix on the tv while playing fallout. Pretty much a non event.

A $300 or so price and some must play exclusives.

The idea of getting one though keeps getting less and less tempting as time goes on. By the time it drops to a reasonable price, PS4 will already have plenty of exclusives and such that I may not give a damn what MS has. They're really going to need something to blow me away (like Gears Of War 1 did) in order for me to go buy one.

I'm actually thinking about buying a second PS4 (the white Destiny one) before ever getting an Xbox.

It took them over a year to admit it was even a thing. The only reason it was a non event was because they denied it entirely in the face of 30% plus failure rates.

$250 before I really consider.

I'll go $299 if Sunset Overdrive turns into something great and the white console bundle hits that price at some point. Other than that, literally the only game I'd play is Killer Instinct, so it's a worthless system with an old style controller. Nothing about it hits my gaming needs. I'd like Kinect, but they don't support it properly so it's meaningless for me.

Nothing really. Ive bet on my horse and im going to ride it till the end of this gen. I may get a wiiU but not specificly for me. For my daughter. If my son asked for one Id do it.

Nope I remember all that clear as day. I just choose to live in the now.

But after the now comes the future, and based on past experience, I would rather not live in a Microsoft future.

Thankfully, it seems I am not the only one.

Culdcept, Neogeo Battle Colisseum 2 exclusivity, TVC3 exclusivity, new Marvel fighting game or DC fighting game of tourney level quality...the usual.

We get it, you hate Microsoft.

At least I haven't had to cancel my credit cards multiple times due to security breaches with them=P

For some, it does not matter what it takes or anything. There are some folks that regardless of the power, games, features etc. they will never buy a Xbox, even if it was more powerful etc. Some people are just dedicated to certain platforms and no matter what they will stick with them. Not that anything is wrong with that, if the system they game on provides everything they want, then that is great.

For me, no way would just one console be enough. Never has and I am part of "old" Gaf where I started my gaming when the 2600/Intellivsion came out. I always had 2 systems, sometimes 3 and as of late a high-end gaming rig.

My son wants a midrange gaming PC for his birthday. If the Xbox One could run Windows 8 (and that is one EASY thing to do since it's practically a PC sans keyboard and mouse), I'm definitely buying one today. This will cover most of his gaming and school needs at a budget price!

Listen, Microsoft. If you can make XBox One run Windows 8 and bundle it with a keyboard and mouse (instead of Kinect), you will have the console and gaming PC markets locked in. SERIOUSLY.

Great for you, not for everyone who had it before they started replacing them in 2007.

But, look how easy it is to share sony games? remember that video? that was so great.. they are so smart...

Lots and lots of good exclusives.

Unfortunately for MS they completely turned off a lot of core gamers right off the bat, some of us who had only ever been MS loyal.

Frankly my PC/PS4/WiiU backlog is so ridiculous now I have no idea why i'd get an Xbox to go back to pay for Live.

If they get a dozen or so exclusives i'm really interested in then I will probably pay more attention. Right now they have zero, and potentially two with Halo 5 and Quantum Break.

I had decided once it dropped below $400 AUD I'd consider it if it had a game and a controller.

Last Thursday/Friday they had them for $399 with Forza 5 (no Kinect) on catch of the day so after double checking with my better half, I'll have one in a few weeks :D

I used to be like that waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay back in the day for everything sony and wouldn't touch xbox it was all nintendo/sony but when i tried xbox and tried it's online it just blew me away I guess it was one of the most memorable experiences thats why I am so hyped they're reaching into their back pockets and bringing back the OG titles.

I now have all the consoles spend less time holding grudges & fighting about it on a forum, lol. As i said previously phantom dust would bring me back but also the old xbox titles would be a big benefit for me to come back.

as much as xbox 360 broke on me the original xbox still works for me, lol.

I'm right there with ya, I've had multiple platforms all my life. I don't get where this crazy warrior shit comes from.

Kinect works great, not sure what you are talking about. And Microsofts servers seem to work pretty well?

Well obviously you must be one of the people who sits invisibly on my shoulder as you seem to know my experiences with it. Or are an NSA spy?

I dont own an xbox one, my friend does. So on the occasions Ive been to his place to play it this is what happens.

Kinect has a less than 10 percent success rate with voice commands (Australian accent).
Forza 5 is hilariously buggy. Highlight being cars driving floating in the air a foot above ground.
CoD Ghosts we dont know about because it gets corrupted, takes an hour to uninstall, then takes 4 hours to get to 20% progress on reinstalling it. So I haven't seen that yet thanks to whatever dumb reason.

Speak for yourself, i had my 20gb launch model replace 3 fucking times. Then I bought an S model line, and the motherboard took a shit and had to be replaced. Yea going through 5 gaming machines, was totally non eventful...

Why is it that the majority of stories about how bad kinect is, are from people whose only experience with it is at a friends house?

Cars floating in Forza isn't a bug, thats lag. Your friend needs better internet pipes.

Skip ghosts, it sucks on all platforms. The XB1 did you a solid there.

I'll buy one once it gets a price drop and more games. Only game I'm interested in is master chief collection which will hopefully be on pc so no points in buying right now.

Sounds like your friend needs to calibrate his Kinect properly.

I've never seen that issue with Forza 5, and it's practically the only thing I play on consoles other than Killer Instinct right now.

For me personally the only thing that would get me to buy one is free gold. I'm not paying for 2 memberships and I'm not gonna cancel PS+.

I haven't forgotten $599, as a total videophile, it was hands down the cheapest BluRay player on the market. The system was too expensive for just a game console, but at least the Bluray capabilities added some value for a small select market...

And you say people hold grudges way too long, right after bringing up $599? Lol

I had 2 replacements for RROD then had to buy another 360 (warranty end). I've always wondered how many extra 360's were sold after people had theirs die, that would be an interesting statistic.

My 4th 360 still works and we have 3 dead ones in this household, 2 RROD one another GPU problem.

As I said in another, thread, I do have my preference for Xbox and Xbox Live, part of it is that I have built such a long and strong bond with people that first started in the Dreamcast days and playing PSO and most of those guys moved to the Xbox. Back in the day, I was more of a Sega guy, but still had a Nintendo. During the Xbox OG I still had a PS2 and GC. While, I do have my preference in how MS has made their on-line, I am more into some of the franchises like Forza which I always preferred to Gran Turismo, (the original GT was pretty fantastic though) and Halo versus what the other guys push as their main first person shooter.

But I know there those console warriors that just stick to the one console and no matter what the other guys have they just wont jump. Which is fine, but for me, I just like to play the best games available and if that is on multiple platforms then so be it.
