Add some clip of a generic mobile game to the lower half of every post to retain their attention

What am I going to chat about some random yoof about.
Not interested in endless generic cafe chat/dudebro gym shit/incel crap or mobile games/fortnite or the flavour of the month equivalent.

Or am I too unfair on our glorious younger generation?

This feels like a stealth "make Gaf woke"-thread.

Going down that path risks making this place as unusable and insufferable as reddit or the purple place. We'd get users policing and overmoderating other users and constantly writing "you can't say that, you fascist-nazi-bigot!"

No thanks, as it stands Gaf is one of the few excellent discussion places today.

For better or for worse, that lockerroom attitude is what makes NeoGAF NeoGAF. Anything goes, nothing is sacred and we all enjoy a good joke. That's a far healthier attitude than the civilized conversations on the purple forum where everybody takes offense at just about anything and you've got to walk on your toes to evade the ban hammer.

There's always boundaries and they exist here. I think we all agree that era is way too far and off a cliff. Its a matter of degrees, and it could be changed without getting anywhere near woke.

No way to know how many would leave or be unhappy with anything like that, but that was the only idea I had to bring in younger users.

Lol, if you're a Sony, Trump worshipping Andrew Tate fan. I've literally seen threads this last couple of weeks declare Microsoft as Evil and how Woke destroyed the Western world. In between best tits in gaming.

My kid just turned 17 year is currently doing an Evil play through of BG3 and she'd take one look at this bigoted sausage fest and run a mile.

Focus on authenticity, AI automation will suck away all the value and destroy platforms like reddit. Just being real is very valuable. As people figure out most online discussion around commercial products like games are automated, they'll come.

The written format in games discussion is under siege, video is next, focus on being the real deal and the site will surely grow as discontent sets in elsewhere.

I think neogaf is nicely positioned, just stay very vigilant to authentic thoughts today as the site can reap the benefits of this stance tomorrow.

Don't ban so easily, a human banned is infinitely worse for this site than an AI kept.

I'm open for newer members, always. Opinions may clash, but we can learn from them as much as they can learn from old-timers.

The world doesn't stop spinning, and so shouldn't people. Better to foster a healthy community than a dying one.

Talk, analyse, clown on, share our joy and complain about games/tech/industry. No one stumbles upon this forum and decides to join unless they're already enthusiastic gamers. What do gamers like to talk about?

Some half assed and desperate "hello fellow kids" initiatives won't move the needle at all IMO. The salt, the hype, the passion, the freedom of speech is this sites strongest assets.

We could all claps hands and praise roblox/peak/schedule & glorify mtx skins while we sing kumbaya and promise young'uns a padded safe-space where they can talk about how [insert game] encouraged them to explore their sexual identity as we applaud them for their bravery. And of course ban anyone who steps out of line.

But then we'd just become an even shittier place then Reee.

I always get suprised by these kind of posts, some members seems to almost despise this place and hold some kind of contempt for it's users. Oh no, someone said things you disagree with or even worse...like something you dislike. How horrible for you, that for sure means that the whole board must be facist-bigots. 😅

4W feminism really broke a lot of people.

No, that's what makes modern GAF, NeoGaf.

The unfortunate thing is that a balance was lost post-split. Now most people on this site and the other site look at things in a binary fashion. Either this or that, one or zero, almost maximum moderation or almost zero moderation, yin or yang.

That's not how things should be but that's sadly how it ended up being. I think maybe one day it all might change, but that day will be in the far future.

The younger crowd at my department's service desk usually play a wide range of decent games so I'll talk to them during breaks. Just this morning I had a discussion after finishing Death Stranding this weekend and had fun theorizing. They range from mid-twenties to early 30s. But yea, they don't frequent forums other than the odd reddit gaming community.

I've dabbled with and watched the purple place and I'd say that it wasn't a split as much as carving out a cancerous tumour from a healthy leg. That place eats itself and demands total loyalty to one ideology. Sure, I welcome more sensitive people coming here, but they shouldn't demand that their sense of morality is the only one allowed.

I don't think any internal effort can make young people interested in forums. I think it more likely other sites/apps implode and go a branch too far in how poorly they treat their users, finally getting them to seek alternatives. And even then the solution for many won't be forums.

Placings ads / sponsoring / collab with youtubers, tiktok etc...

I imagine some youtuber making a video on some game lore or top 10, or iceberg video, easter eggs , something like that, you got the segment on neogaf sponso, where the guy talks about the website and why it's related to the topic he discuss (a cool post where someone mentioned said game / leaker/ gaf history).

It would bring new people, but pick and choose wisely which kind you want, fnaf is more Reee audience for ex.

On that topic, why not asking for the first time user on gaf what kind of preferred topic he'd like to see recommended on gaf, like a certain game related posts, that would be permanently displayed on his UI.

Only thing I would say is just talk about a larger variety of games. I occasionally see threads talk about newer IP or indie stuff, but there are more talking about older franchises usually worsening in quality.

Also, more than enough threads bragging up or trashing down a specific game platform, when we live in a time where platforms are more samey than ever.
