Xbox One will be Number One in Sales

I have a feeling Call of Duty is gonna get Tony Hawked and Guitar Heroed , every big milked franchise eventually runs its course.

Nah, as long as CoD is still only a yearly thing that's never going to happen. The problem with Guitar Hero is when they stated releasing them every few months. If they wouldn't have gotten quite that greedy the series might still be alive today.

With no head start, inferior hardware, tepid features, and incredibly negative press it'll be lucky to match Wii U numbers.

Hey, anything is possible.

Apple could release an official iOS contoller and get some of the pie.
Android consoles could get some of the pie.
Sega Spectrum could get some of the pie (LOL)

Nope. I would only get one if my partner wants one, and he has said no as of yesterday and we are in agreement that we don't want to support Microsoft even if they change their policies on used game fees and online connections. We'll keep our 360 and stick with Wii U and PS4 for next Gen.

The media stuff is exactly why they won't be number one because anything they do, Apple will do much better and quicker.

I don't know, I just think Nintendo and Sony shouldn't get too cocky out of the response Microsoft is currently getting with the Xbox One, anything could happen in the game industry.

  • Kinect 1.0 is a half-arsed piece of shit, Kinect 2.0 will have to be flawless because of how everything hinges upon it.
  • Dudebro crowd buys used games from Gamestop, and you best believe they will rage when the game they buy ask them to pay the full price or a fee.
  • Marketting will focus mostly on the Xbox One being a new thing, and the dumber consumers will go with PS4 because of numbers (I know, it is stupid).
  • Exclusives?
  • Me thinks the increasing budget costs of next-game development will result in fewer actual exclusive titles. Instead, you'll see plenty of non-trivial exclusive DLC (that is timed) - on multiple platforms.
  • Xbone is a poorly performing swiss multi-tool doing something no one has really asked for. Instead of competing with Sony (and Nintendo) in the gaming market, they thought it'd be a good idea to compete with the likes of Google and Apple in the home entertainment scene. That's not innovation, that's suicide.

Even if it is a success in the US despite all of the above, it will end up last in Europe and Japan (along with the rest of the world) because of how US-centric it is - so it won't be number one in sales, sorry.

As much as you hate the One right now, chances are you're going to buy one sometime during its lifespan because you are a gamer and it will be tough to resist when all is said and done. Here's five reasons why the One will top the charts:

Kinect 2.0
Kinect 2.0 will be the next Wiimote. The new Dance Central and Kinect Sports will be just the tip of the iceberg. MS knows they need a few more killer apps to start the avalanche effect and that's exactly what they have been working on in the hopes of having the next "Wii Sports" phenomenon on their hands. No other system can provide this type of mass market offering for grandma and little tommy alike.

Power of Dudebro
The biggest franchises out there will be on One. Some of them will be on the PS4, sure, but there's nowhere else where you'll find Halo, COD, Gears, Madden, etc. all on one console. Don't underestimate the dudebros who continue to fuel the yearly installments of COD, etc. and play it on the 360/PS3 instead of playing superior graphical versions on PC. The hardcore may care about FPS and res and such, but dudebro's don't.

Marketing
Wii U already has a flat tire so only the PS4 is in the way from topping the charts. Wii U will rebound a bit, no doubt, and PS4 is formidable, but Microsoft already proved it can maneuver around Sony whenever it needs to to maintain sales momentum whether that comes in the form of advertisements, aggressive price cuts and promos, or marketing deals with publishers. Microsoft has the deeper pockets and it's looking like they may have a price advantage all gen long.

Exclusives
There will be a bunch of One exclusives, moneyhat variety or otherwise. A handful of those will be hard to resist for even the biggest Sony or Nintendo fan so gamers will give in whether they like it or not. There's already been talk of Microsoft opening the wallet for Respawn's game and possibly Dead Rising 3. We know Ryse is coming and sounds like Insomniac and others may have exclusive stuff in the works.

Innovation
Microsoft were big innovators with the 360, whether people want to admit it or not and it's looking like they will keep that trend going. Gamers who think that Sony won't follow suit with the used games restrictions are fooling themselves. The future is here. You will either support it or not (see Steam). Dedicated servers, dynamic achievements, in-game skype and internet feeds, video sharing, cloud enhancements, clean and snappy interface, real-time multitasking/switching, smart TV, etc., etc. Few companies will be able to match the One's online gaming experience, but it will come at a cost, of course.

You should feel bad for going off the deep end into the fanboy wars.

1. They've failed to do this (globally) for like the past four years, despite having your mentioned price advantage. The ps3 has passed up the 360 in worldwide sales despite launching a year late (year and a half in Europe).

2. How will they have a price advantage? Every system will come with Kinect 2.0, and it actually sounds like the base hardware may cost more to produce than ps4 hardware, because they're being forced to use a costly, power hungry, hot 40nm CPU while the ps4 is launching with a 28nm CPU.

I'm going to throw down a gauntlet: find a thread from 2006 listing the reasons why the PlayStation 3 will be number one in sales, and let's laugh at how similar it will probably be to this thread.

What is going on today with this wave of bad news and crazy threads popping up to defend MS in any way possible.

The PS brand is too strong IMO and we will probably see more people switching from Microsoft to Sony this gen rather than the opposite this gen.

As a gamer, I don't really care for kinnect; there's going to be an abundance of dudebro games for any system; the cloud is not only ONE exclusive. lol

Merci.

"xbox one will totally succeed because people who aren't you might buy one "

That's pretty much what I read up there in the OP only brief. Not convinced.

Seems like several of the replies to the OP are more emotional than logical. He's likely correct, whether or not you or I like it. There are so many more "dudeBros" then gamers. Life is unfair, etc...

Maybe their marketing will be successful with the dudebro and soccer moms, but shitting on gamers/early adapters is not gonna work in the long run.

I disagree. Assuming success based on past success is folly as we all saw with the PS3.

Of course, we'll just have to wait to see.

we all hated DLC (most of it, anyway), online passes, Call of Duty and Madden and Assassin's Creed yearly refreshes and all the other bull we've been put through this generation, but the mass market eats that shit up and that's why it's going to keep happening and they're going to keep eating it up and all the reasonable and rational ones among us will just continue to scratch our heads.

No one predicted Wii's incredible early run. The power of mass market, soccer mom's, and dudebro's is not something to be trifled with.

itll come down to microsoft courting devs for exclusive content for major blockbuster titles and stick with only on xbox one. which also means lots more air time for TV ad unless sony plans to actually you know market the system after launch and not let it die.

RIP

Mhm sis. But Sony seems to be marketing it atm lol will PS4 ads air during the championship or whatever?

The only Xbox 360 exclusives I cared about were the Japanese titles from the beginning of its lifespan, and some of the XBLA stuff from when indies actually cared about XBLA.

From the sound of it, neither of these two things will be relevant on Xbone. Without exclusives I care about, why would I buy it?

As to whether it will sell the most, I can't say. But none of those sales will be mine, in all likelihood.
