Xbox Scarlett Will Get One First Party Game Release Every 3-4 Months, Says Xbox Game Studios Boss

Really not sure whats exactly so bad about em. But I'd take some bad models and a shitload of content over a pretty game with no content.

And that's not even the case at ms right now. SoD 2 looks like a bad 360 game and still ran like shit on my X. Repetitive missions over and over and no story. SoD 1 is still miles better.
Oh i agree good content is better that graphics. Im glad we can agree spiderman is double a and if microsoft makes double a games that should be good as long as they are fun. Why are you cussing and upset?

Show me.
Talking a good game is just that...talk, I want to see tangible proof. Just acquiring studios doesn't cut it.
I want too see MS do good but this past gen really didn't have the same "it" factor the 360 had. Only amazing thing this gen is game pass , I will not be burnt by them again .....sorry if I hurt your feelings but it's not a console war thing , I bought all consoles this gen and the Xbox one was the least used by a huge margin.
Thanks for apologizing for hurting my feelings. That was nice of you. I forgive you.

"We feel really good heading into 2020," Matt Booty, the head of Xbox Game Studios, told GamesRadar in an interview. "We've got a goal of being able to deliver a game, roughly, every three to four months.

Far from upset lol. It seems most you guys are tho. Any bit of criticism on your console of choice and most of you lose it.

When you look at the competition, a new game every 3 months (about 4-5 games), is still nothing compared to the 15 games from Sony, or the 20 or so games Nintendo publishes yearly. Still, it'd be a nice step up from their current pacing, where you'd be lucky to get maybe 3 games from Microsoft a year.
It all depends on what they mean by their 3-4 per year schedule. If they're all bigger games then awesome. If they're counting AA games or indies then not so much. Sony usually releases 2 or 3 AAA games per year, the rest are AA games and indies (I'm not complaining by any means, I like variety).

Don't Sony and Nintendo release games every 3-4 months? Microsoft messed up this gen, so hopefully they can pull it back next gen and get back to their best.

However, I hope the focus doesn't slip past 2020 and Microsoft can keep up the momentum. I would hate for all this talk to be a PR exercise in getting people to buy Scarlett.

Gamepass is amazing though, so...we will see. I'm cautiously optimistic about the next gen.

Remember that first party doesn't mean AAA.

Probably mostly smaller indie style games like we saw a few weeks ago. With only one or two AAA games per year.

how will it work for titles that are inevitably delayed? Do they get bumped to the end of the release lineup or will they delay all the other games coming out every 3-4 months to fit it still in?

here's hoping Blinx Kart is in the cards.

That's the pace Sony had during PS3 era, before they decided to sell/close most of their studios. So with MS having 15 studios (not counting internal teams within them) I can see them easily doing it, it means each dev would have even up to 4-5 years for making a game.

I call bullshit.

Releasing a mini indie game every third of fourth month won't do it.

No, they won't. The aim is to have their own "GamePass Originals".
Games will vary in scope and quality, but there will be good ones, for sure.

I guess 'major' means different things got different people...its why we use wiggle words in marketing.

Lineup for 2021:

Q1
Gears of War 7
Forza 8
Halo 6

Q2
Lego Gears of War
Forza Tactics
Halo low low low

Q3
Forza Rampage

Q4
Halo Racer
Lol....but its already more diverse than Sony's slate:

Q1
3rd person over-the-shoulder cinematic action game

Q2
3rd person over-the-shoulder cinematic action game

Q3
3rd person over-the-shoulder cinematic action game

Q4
3rd person over-the-shoulder cinematic action game

I hope they can keep this cadence, though it will mean I'll have to keep extending my gamepass sub for the foreseeable future

Hahahahaha, as a Xbox One X owner even I call this out as BS. Nice try though.

So, three to four games per year?

That's not that exciting unless they ALL knock it out of the park and end up being GOTY candidates.

We already know 1 of the 3 is Forza. So, that leaves 2 or 3 more first-party exclusives for the rest of the year? And most of the studios they acquired were basically just indie developers, so I'm assuming their future output would be on a similar tier.

And, of course, you'll still get duds like the Crackdowns, etc. On top of that, some of even their first-party stuff will go to the other platforms, such as Minecraft Dungeons and ALL of them are available on PC.

The more you think of it, this is a very low bar they're setting and it doesn't really sound much different from what happened with the Xbox One.

Sounds awesome, Game Pass is already awesome, but when these new games come out it will be even better. Glad I signed up till 2022 :goog_smile_face_eyes:

Realistically, Sony have won 3 of the 4 gens they've contested and not by a small margin every time. The one they lost was basically as a result of them doing the corporate equivalent of the Sideshow Bob steps on a yard-full of rakes bit, for 3 straight years, and even then they managed to rally and largely recover their market and mindshare by the end of it.

By any reasonable measure, betting against them repeating the trick in round #5 is taking the long odds.

Not only that, they have 4 of the 5 best selling consoles of all time, with only the Wii being in 4th place.

Cool, can't wait to see what they bring.

That's the safe response.

Now the fanboy fodder. Of the studios Microsoft has acquired I'm only confident in Rare, Coalition, 343, Playground Games/Turn 10, Ninja Theory and Obsidian. All of these studios have shown the ability to produce AAA games.

That leaves 8 other studios such as inExile who I'm not too confident of in terms of their AAA prowess. One of them being The Initiative, which has been touted as a studio that would aim to make AAAA games (whatever the hell that means). Just doin the math even if the other studios only made AA games...you still have 7 studios that we know make AAA, another 7 who will probably do AA and then The Initiative's AAAA.

I mean that feels pretty balanced...then we can just get some new IP and I'd be happy.

But it very clearly means youre shook AF. If you didnt care you wouldnt even be in the thread. Just sayin tho!
Or this directly relates to the upcoming competition at the start of next-gen, which always interests me.

It's that time of the gen again.

I think we've already heard about that strategy before......Release First party content to Gamepass every 3 months, leveraging their new found development houses...….The quality of this content is what will be observed and analyzed going forward...…..Technically, a gamepass game landing every 3 months is also a game landing on Scarlett, so no new info or strategy tbh...…

The only thing left is to see how that strategy pans out going forward........I'm of the opinion that we won't see many AAA games coming through with such a strategy, yet, there are a few optimists who believe that MS will deliver here, so we shall see,

Ms lack of third parties exclusives for small medium size games so they have to create them...
In this gen tons of games are only ps4/PC and sometimes Switch (try to prove if i'm in wrong)

What about if they Say : on Scarlett a First party games Xbox studios every 3-4 years

They have to do choices...What choice Is best of the worst?

I'd argue this is the type of output they need to keep GamePass viable. It's essentially like Netflix where they have to release tons of shit constantly just to keep people subscribed and happy. The big difference is that they can try to get people hooked long term on one game (like Halo), so they also have to cast as wide a net as possible.

Spiderman is very triple A, and a good game. I dont get what he means about it not being AAA. As for Sea of Thieves, its not my kind of game, but people need to realize its so much more now than it was at launch. People seem to keep judging it from what it was at release, its practically a different game now.

I don't either. Spiderman is better than anything MS has released this gen, and I don't think it is even close. MS needs a lot of games of that caliber if they want their strategy to be viable next gen (not just Scarlett, but GamePass as a service). They need these studios to deliver amazing games, which is very difficult. Sea of Thieves is a nice live service game, but it won't cut it.

Is everyone telling MS to "put up or shut up" and "talk is cheap" etc., aware that they just invested billions of dollars in studio acquisitions and a huge expansion of those teams? That is "putting up. That is "action." We're already seeing the fruits of this monumental shift in studio support now and by Scarlett's sophomore year it should be an embarrassment of riches on Gamepass year in and out. Also, I fully expect to learn of a Japanese (or Korean?) acquistion by E3.
No. It's not putting up. Releasing quality games is putting up. Studio acquisitions don't matter if the games don't deliver. See Rare.

Very achievable. I hope they deliver.

I also hope that that number is more of a minimum than the plan to the letter. I'd still like to see 2-3 games released in October-December, in addition to one each in winter, spring, and summer.

Yeah, it sucks having the best FPS, TPS and Racing franchises all on my console of choice.
Bro it ain't 2006 anymore. Move on.

Q2
3rd person over-the-shoulder cinematic action game

Q3

Q4
3rd person over-the-shoulder cinematic action game
Compared to microsofts
Q1
58th game in a franchise

Q2
32nd game in a franchise

Q3
40th game in a franchise

Q4
New minecraft skins

Personally, I'm excited to see what these studios will produce. Chances are, since Microsoft is a service based company, they will produce AAA single player experiences with a good multiplayer component that gets supported on a regular basis. That's my hope anyway.

I'm also hoping most games will be new IP next gen.

The bolded is kinda what Sony does and they spread the releases wisely.
They even stated that they will be releasing less AAA-games at a higher quality going forward.

This is a big reason why Sony is far more popular worldwide.
Say what you will about the type of games they release, people know they can expect high production values from their high profile output.

That's what MS still doesn't get to this day. They are so focused on catching up all the time and trying to outdo Sony, that they neglect to guarantee high quality products.
They completely misread the market time after time.

Even Nintendo is aware that they can't compete directly, so they do their own little thing and focus on what they do best. That's why Nintendo remains successfull in their own regards and stay relevant.

MS can learn a lot from Sony and especially Nintendo.

MS are more in it for the profit and not Gamer first.

It's hilarious that someone added Rare in as a AAA dev. They haven't produced anything worthwhile for over 10 years.

About the last time you produced a good post then? RARE is AAA, SoT is FUN.

Fucking let it go and actually go play the game instead of shitting up every single thread about Microsoft.

You should let it go and come to realization that you don't need to defend every shitty game MS produces. Sorry bud, Rare isn't AAA.
