Xbox Series S Revealed (Brad Sams) - $299 Price

The disc drive itself doesn't but I'm surprised you don't understand the REASON why it would be $399 and $499, especially in a time where digital software has continuesly outsold physical.

But on the other hand, since digital software sales are now outselling physical, why would you make the digital only console cheaper? If more and more people are buying digital they can keep the price of the digital console the same as the one with a disc drive and make even more profit.

HOLY shit that thing is fucking tiny!
Pretty much the same size as the One X, bit less "deep".

To the very end i still counter-logically hoped that MS gonna cancel this version. This piece of shit gonna undermine all of the future multiplatform AND MS-exclusive games.

Really hope this things fails and fails badly.

I want to see ZERO support from developers for this.

"We decided not to support the Series S as 4TF compromised our vision for our game" is what I want to see happen over and over.
You have no idea what you're talking about lol.

Same CPU, same SSD, same RAM setup, same GPU architecture. This is the 1080p box to the 4K Series X. Games will likely look the same but at a lower resolution. Good chance they'll even run better on the Series S.

2 years from now Nvidia releases the 4000 series just for fun and with it the first 55 tflop GPU. Meanwhile consoles will be focused on 4 tflops of performance.

Interesting design and price. It's going to come in at less than anything Sony can offer the PS5 at, and that's going to be important to MS. If it can offer a substantial performance improvement over the XB1X, that would be impressive. If it's only equivalent to the XB1X in performance (seeing as they are embracing cross-gen), then I think it's just a repackaging of an SKU they intend to delist.

I'm intrigued. I don't think I'll be getting one, but that's not because of the design or price. I think MS is making a strong play on both fronts here.

Well yeah, that is the reason, that's what I implied. Even if digital is outselling physical, the goal is to bring in even more profits and what better way to do it then to introduce a console at a super enticing price point. Surely a $50 difference won't entice people to go all digital when they can just spend $50 to get one that does that AND have a disc drive. This is why I see it being $399 and $499 (PS5)
They don't have to entice anyone to go all digital. People are already doing it on their own. Even though everyone has a disk drive now already, more people are buying digital than physical. Sony doesn't give away money.

or in 3 years Sony and Microsoft release the Pro version/SeriesXMax

And this one would be discontinued.

Soooo, no different than every other gen of consoles where PC is never the base power level for games? Gotcha.

Someone did a white Series X using the Series S palette and its beautiful... hopefully MS does this...

They aren't "embracing cross gen", that's all just PR and sony fanboys being concerned. There will be no more cross gen games this gen than there were last gen. None of microsofts announced games are cross gen other than FS2020 and Halo, but Halo is just a Series X patched XB1 game.

Don't be fooled by the 4TF number compared to the 6TF One X. They're different architecture, you don't compare the TF numbers across architectures, and the CPU on the Series S absolutely demolishes the Jaguar in the One X. It's got an SSD too. The Series S plays next gen games, the One X doesn't.

Nvidia will be building space shuttle transformers that give you blow jobs, and people will still be complaining about the consoles and their irrelevant tflops comparisons ruining those blow jobs.

Who the fuck is this targeted for

Gamers? Kids who couldn't care less about 4k. People like me who would snatch up a second cheaper and smaller extra console because he travels a lot and can't take a 4k tv with him. It's a convenient little Game Pass box. If Sony had a small 1080p PS5 for the same price, I'd get one of those as well.

Wouldn't this cut the legs off of the XSX?

I'm still calling fake

So the original PS4 cut the legs off of the Pro and the Xbox One cut the legs off of the Xb1X? While we're at it, is the 3070 cutting the legs off of the 3080? Do Sony or MS care when we go for the cheaper console if we use the same store and services? Nope.

Wow that's such a weird and disappointing design. A small XBox One S, with as weird speaker on the side.

But hey, at least the price could be/is good!

We'll see.

$399 & $499 bookmark it

This is the greatest setup I've seen in the past year. Microsoft must feel so confused right now. This fucking guy LOL.
Check those back backlinks people. They working extra hard this week.
Let me eat crow.

But MUH TERAFLOPS

Better to not even bother.

I fully expect MS to somehow fuck up the marketing and leave people with the impression that this is not a ""real"" next gen console.

"$299"

Yeah, somebody should probably go do a wellness check on Tommy Tallarico at Intellivision HQ.

I would, but I can't... I need to put a proton pack together. I figure the ghost of Sega's old boss Isao Okawa is scowling at Sony and laughing his ass off from beyond the grave just a little too much right now.

And what if devs want to do ultimate high detailed eye candy game for series x, but at lower res? Like 1080-1440p & 30fps?

They make series s version to run 720p, or 1080p with lowest low details?

This just forces devs to target 4k with lower details on xsex, plain and simple.

Maybe not many would make this choice but at least there would be one to make.

Sure, but after reading the whole first page with comments like that, balanced needed to be restored 😜 sorry.

I agree - but since the PS5 was laughed out of town for it's looks, it was expectable that they'd try return the favor to maintain some sort of dignity, I suppose.

Not the same... RT is tied to number of CUs so the RT capabilities of the XSS will be considerably lower, games using RT won't exactly look the same.

Look absolutely beautiful. So much better than that atrocious router sony did. With gamepass and 299.99 you just found the winner of the console wars.

That black vent kills the entire look, they should've keep the One S style. But if 299$ price is real that's one hell of offer I have to say.

Hot damn!

I think this looks unique and practical for direct air flow over the SOC.

It does look like a mini speaker, that could fit in with your other 'smart' speaker.
That black mesh makes it look incredibly ugly. They should've kept it white to blend in with the console.

Ugly, but very nice size and price. Let's also reserve some judgement for its actual performance until we actually see how it does. We still don't know how much ai scaling might assist.

It will sell well regardless, a new machine that plays mutiple generations of games with almost no load times for $299 will sell.

And a big shout out to those who keep saying this machine kills games - you had better be denouncing the very existence of pc gaming as it does the exact same thing to developers. But wait.....you don't, you conveniently ignore multiplatform versions if they don't say xbox on them.

Not how it works lol.

The Series X doesn't have to have lower details just because the Series S exists. You're basically saying that games can't take advantage of the graphical power of say the 3090 Nvidia card because the 3070 exists.

I dont find any lookers in the last few gens of consoles, the thing that you cant say anything about is the price. Thats a winning price. And the first salvo in what now looks like a battle.
