Xbox Series X WDSN530 has custom ASIC to support PCIe 4.0 (Tweaktown corrects PCIe 3.0 claims)

Note sure, really, only understood "Confirmado".

Here it is, it is from a livestream content creator on twitch (timestamp 3:09:20)

Today he is doing the teardown of series S and maybe he will try to put this 1TB ssd from X on Series S

He is live now

What ? Destiny dlc that's your saving grace lol .

Why would I need a saving grace? There are numerous games that have already been documented. I just gave an example that they asked for.

Real question is how many buts and don't counts have to be added to that "Super Speed" SSD...

PCi 3.0 and these proprietary drives are priced at insane levels......Someone definitely has to open up one of these expansion drives for Series X......Look at it's heat dissipation solution and the overall package inside....

These drives just look like an easy way for MS to recoup some funds at the behest of XBOX owners since they have no other option to upgrade. MS can control and maximize pricing.....Wasn't NBA 2K something like 120GB, people will need to upgrade on XBOX pretty soon...

Versus the PlayStation 5 where there's no path to upgrade, no path to expand, and no ability to store games on an external.

Weird flex there buddy, but I think it just backfired on you.

Yeah unpatched PS4 pro BC games unfortunately for you that don't prove f all about the true next gen performance of these new consoles you're looking for a win when nothing next gen is out yet like I said to you before let the proper games come out then we'll talk , BC ain't proving anything all it proves is that the xonex is more powerful than the PS4 pro which was a given and what these new consoles emulate when doing BC in most cases , it's certainly not a "win" for you fanboys

I stated a fact, you are looking for a win. Big difference.

But is custom..is not the same that you can buy..so i don't think you can read just the specs of the standard WD ssd perhaps
Or maybe we have to argue what is the "custom thing"

They could've customized it to PCIe 4.0? Very possible, I think.

Currently they only have Seagate as the sole external source. It's not surprising to me the high price of exclusiveness. Hopefully MS will allow other mfg to release the expansion soon.

If facts are:

MS advertised that Xsex have PCIe Gen 4 bus and PCIe gen 4 SSD
but in reality Xsex have PCIe gen 4 bus and PCIe gen 3 SSD

anybody whom doesnt see the problem in plain scamming/lying is blind fanboy.

Adding gen 3 device into gen 4 bus doesnt turn it into gen 4 device, PCIe is backwards compatible, not magic which turns older device into new.

If speeds are still what they promised, it is still not right because of the lie.

2 lanes of gen 3 = 1.97 GB/s

2 lanes of gen 4 = 3.94 GB/s

So if gen 3 device with 2 lanes maxes out at ~2 GB/s even on gen 4 bus, it is not the 2.4 GB/s they are marketing. If it gets benefits from gen 4 bus, then it is possible. If they would use gen 4 SSD, then there would not be this discussion.

MS is to blame about this madness. :messenger_savoring:

People forgot so soon that the 360 used these proprietary hard drives they charged ungodly sums for. Collective memory sure isn't what it used to be.

Based on the performance we are seeing in comparing games between both consoles. I don't have an issue with this. Still we need to see a next gen game optimized for both to see what the performance is really like.

They compared next gen games load times between consoles?
He clearly stated that we haven't seen next gen games yet. Maybe try to read the whole post before replying?

I bolded the relevant bit to aid your comprehension.

The PS5 has not launched yet, some drives Sony may approve for launch.....They also said they will be testing drives beyond launch, they said that months ago......So I'd rather wait a few days for faster cheaper drives that I can buy from a wider base of manufacturers.....There will be competition from the PS5 SSD vendors which benefits the customer in the end...

This wouldn't be using those current gen console profiles would it? it definitely isnt testing a dedicated Xbox series X /ps5 build of the game or dlc... It proves nothing in the way of next gen games loading better or looking better which these new consoles are all about
And my original point you're flaunting BC loading times with software not made for the ps5 as wins when they are not all will be clear once next gen games come out we will know more .

It looks like the preview units have different hardware from the final retail unit. The only thing I would question is if performance is the same?

In the livestream right now, his friend said that he found out that this xbox series S SSD has 2GB/s read and 1GB/s write, so it might be different from xbox series X SSD... is this good?

I'm not flaunting anything. I made a factual statement and the same trolls come in quoting me all butt hurt. No matter what ifs and buts you bring up doesn't change the factual statement I made. Live with it and move on.

Those are final retail units, and such parts aren't assembled overnight. If it was 1-2 years ago, then probably.

The internal SSD of XSS seems to be similar to the external but halved?

So it’s fake.... or maybe ms threw something in for the preview units maybe?

Would be bad if some random people get the wd card while everyone else gets the real one.

Guess what, the original Xbox had multiple vendors for the optical drives and HDD's in the system.

Still played games the same, still loaded and stored data the same. Specifications matter, not sourcing.

Apparently, this is ssd's series S performance and description (dont know if it is true):

2XP65Hb.png

It clearly can't be that one for two reasons:

1, The SSD in the stream clearly shows the Phison controller, not the Silicon Motion? one here.
2, The read speed is too low. Microsoft state 2.4GB/s raw.

I'm not butt hurt you're a fanboy and need to be called out I want to see results that you keep banging on about new games next gen games loading better and looking far better on series X compared to ps5 like how you're comments read not BC games using PS4 pro profiles shit ... You conveniently leave out the word BC in you're comments and comparisons because you know it doesn't mean much in the grand scheme of things .

Way too many fanboys in this thread with fake concern. There is no difference in performance. In fact the interface is pci-e 4 with enough lanes for two pci-e 3 nvme drives connected at full performance. When there is no performance difference and end uses see no benefit then there's no point in complaining.

It would be different if ms could never hit performance numbers advertised or printed something on the box that they dont have support for, like 8k. That is false advertising imo.

That weird. I assume early console use equivalent SSDs and the later builds use the external SSD types. As long as it's performing as their spec. I'm not concerned.

He's benchmarking XSS SSD now, this is the XSX SSD benchmark:

Waiting for XSS SSD benchmark:

uh , no he didn’t. He said “Based on the performance we are seeing in comparing games between both consoles” what performance is he referring to if not BC? That’s all that been compared.
Then he said “Still we need to see a next gen game optimized for both to see what the performance is really like.” Which clearly means console exclusives. Any more tips on comprehension?
