Xbox World 360 asks: "What game is this?"

Nakasan said:
No one else think this is a genuine, personal, effort on Xbox World's part to try and create a big enough fuss to try and flush out the corporate bullshit thats keeping this game from release? Cause a big enough comotion and try embarass the parties involved to get over themselves and just release a game them many people want?

Thats what I'd like to beleive. Guerilla Embarasment.

If they were looking to do that, this seems counter-productive. Fans would go ape-shit either way, so it was stupid of the magazine to squeeze out portions of a single screenshot with such a lame marketing push for their next issue. Better way to do it...use the full screenie all at once to generate interest, and in the upcoming issue, include everything they know.

Dangling little bits like this just inflames the readers/gamers and unites them against the publication, rather than uniting them against the corporate douchebaggery that likely castrated GoldenEye Remake coming to any next-gen system.

I'd like to believe there's some good intent, too. But unfortunately they acted like retarded versions of Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein trying to hype a story that didn't need to be hyped.

Assuming it is Golden Eye.

:lol If this is just an artist mock up of "what the game could have looked like", I think people are going to be pissed. Especially if it's not even a real screen shot of a real game.

But it seems to be that way. I can't think of any other reason some lesser publication would release fractions of a screen if they had more than 1-3 screens.

Golden Eye was the beginning of my MP FPS fun. It would be neat to see it come back, I don't know that they would be able to recapture the magic though. It's been over a decade and their are SO many AAA fps' out these days that even above average games go unnoticed or get discarded by comparison to said AAA titles.

Anyway, it'll be interesting to see the actual story.

Yes, they will be unveiling GoldenEye tomorrow.
And yes, I'm trying to find out what Project RedLime is. I don't think it's Wing Commander...

In the comments he adds "it's for XBLA. GoldenEye will not appear on Wii VC, unfortunately."

Is "it's" a contraction for "it is", or "it was"?

!!!

Even though the foreshadowing of this news is quickly becoming absurdly obvious, I still reserve the right to be cynical!

I'm ignoring all of the evidence. There's too much of it.

I need sources, I need names, I need phone numbers, emails, screen names. Everything. In fact, this information has to come from the mouth of James Bond his fu*king self.

Fool me once. Shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. Fool me three times.. No wait.. what I'm saying is.. you ain't going to fool me again.

I was too much into Quake when GoldenEye came out, so I have no appreciation/nostalgia for it. I really hope its something I can enjoy, and not a remake of a title I have no feelings for.

Onsale Wednesday, the latest issue of Xbox World 360 blows open Rare's retooled classic with never-seen shots and hands-on details. How different is it? What improvements have been made? What does it feel like on the 360 pad? And how can we make sure this incredible remake does see the light of day? The only place to find out is Xbox World 360...

Oh, and here's the completed jigsaw. (Think it looks good? Wait until you see the rest of the shots... including one great little joke on the title screen.)

Xbox World 360. Wednesday 27th February.

Get ready to don battle armour - because we're taking it to The Man.

So at least they have real screenshots. But looks like the cancellation/limbo is confirmed.

That is one sexy skybox.

Well at least we'll see real screenshots... :(

And that leaked Youtube video had the same FPS counter on the upper left corner of the screen. I guess it was real after all.

Yeah the leaked video of the Silo and screenshot of the Facility are real after all. The counter is the same and so are the guards, and Bond's hand.

It is amazing how just changing the textures and upping the resolution can make the game look so much better. That would be an average looking PS2/XBOX game.

Screenshot of the Facility? Where?

Despite the dissapointments, this potnetially is genuinely the most interesting story of the year, be it in a magazine or on the internet.

Genuine intreague here. Hurrah for investigative videogame journalism!

Whats funny here is if this game does come out that Means MS must of done something to throw their weight around with Activision. Nintendo can not be happy if this releases all upgraded in HD with online multiplayer for the 360 and the Wii doesn't even get a original version.:lol

I am over being mad now, and the article will be very interesting. I hope they provide concrete information and it is not just a bunch of speculation. I need to know exactly which company to be pissed at. Is it MGM (or Sony by way of MGM), Microsoft, EA, Activision, Nintendo, or Rare? So many wonderful possibilities.

wii doesn't deserve it, but id rather they get it if it means xbla will too. Why doesn't wii deserve it? Because rare made it, nintendo kicked rare to the curb, it's rares project and mgms IP which is now used by activision who makes a shit load on xbox 360.

This is something 360 deserves, and since most of us halo/gears/etc fans probably played this one a lot, it's a nice fit.

Something a console "deserves" is a dumb mentality to have, whether it's Final Fantasy, Resident Evil, or GoldenEye.

GoldenEye's time has come and gone though. There are better FPSers out there like Half-Life 2, Half-Life 2: Episode One, and Half-Life 2: Episode Two.

I'd say it's a fair enough statement that the 360 is the most fair console for this to land considering the developer and such, as for being out dated.. nostalgia is a bitch sometimes, I played this for dozens of hours at least with friends and I plan to own it if it hits xbla.

Depends on what you're looking for. I'd rather play it on Wii with an updated control scheme rather than 360 with upgraded textures. I'll probably get it for both anyway. :p

Anihawk: Better doesn't mean much if I'm playing this like crack while those games satiated a one-time experience.

edit: this thread was longer than I thought.. no need to respond to things people have already pointed out. Sorry.

You are way too emotional about this. "Nintendo kicked Rare to the curb", geez.

Not emotional, logical. When nintendo sold their stock in rare and cut the ties it should have at that point been all over. It's rares game, rare is 360, 360 should get it. Nintendo didn't make goldeneye so they really shouldn't have any say in this. Not that I would mind if wii gets a version but it definitely should not be the beefed up rare remake.

Nintendo didn't want rare, so why should they want goldeneye? :D

(and yes, I own a wii, so don't even bother)

Oh shit, Goldeneye! Great news. So it was true all along? hrm.

Just release it, it's done, it costed time and probably money. Now it's time to make money by giving us the option to give money for this game!

I want to give you money Activision/Rare or who ever has the license now..

Okay, but don't turn it into something personal if it doesn't go your way. In the end, it's just business, and sometimes it sucks.

On a sidenote, I remember when the Xbox came out and all the N64/GC fanboys kept insisting that GoldenEye was still the best or one of the best FPS experiences out there, yet Xbox fans said Halo made the game extremely dated.

I might be able to accept a GoldenEye with updated controls, but only so I could play Facility, Stacks (w/ remote mines and nothing else), and Temple. And since part of the nostalgia I have for them comes from the fun I had with my buddies and my cousins in person, playing online would seem shallow by comparison.

What ever happened to the AKI Wrastling games coming to Wii?

Eh. More games I wouldn't want to see ported (Though I'd like to see AKI make some new wrestling games. For as long as I've stayed out of it- nearing 8 years now- I'd love a new AKI/WWE game).

Really, the N64 had some awesome games, but most are best tucked away in nostalgialand.

You seem to forget about the fact that Nintendo owned the IP, Nintendo funded the development of the original game and Nintendo published the final product.

If Nintendo is indeed withholding the release of the remake, I guess they have the right to do it from a business perspective, even if this pisses me off myself.
