XboxEra Podcast claims select PS3 games will be native on PS5, no cloud streaming

wow, is this true?

I'll buy an Xbox Series in a heartbeat if true.
I can't imagine how sad Colt must be feeling this year honestly.

I can't imagine that this is true, but there are many PS3 games that run fairly well on Steam Deck. What is the power difference between these two systems?
I remember DF comparing the Deck to a PS4 @ 800p. I'm not a technician, but the PS3s architecture and it's CELL processor is on a whole other level, probably way harder to emulate on x86 systems

This means it totally possible then, if the Steam Deck is comparable to a PS4 and I've finished a couple of PS3 games on it after the last update.

I believe it's possible for Sony to develop a software PS3 emulator for PS5 since emulators we have access to are from devs without the access to source codes.
With all the documentation and source code, which Sony has, it's probably only a matter of effort.
And that's the biggest sticking point, why should Sony as a commercial company put time, money and effort into work and an emulator that only benefits us, the customers who have already bought the Ps3 games anyway? From their point of view, remakes and remasters would probably be much more lucrative.

That's definitely true. I would be willing to repurchase these titles though which seems to be how the new PS2 initiative does it. Unfortunately, my PS3 Super Slim isn't going to last forever and it would be nice to be able to play the PS3 exclusives like I can the Xbox 360 games.

I don't think people realise when ps3 games come it'll be like the old ps1/2 and psp games getting released lately. It'll be digital only and you'll have to rebuy. They'll come with trophy support.

Probably can't support a PS4 version so they've waited for the ps5 install base to be big enough and a ps5 pro where they'll run better. In a few years they'll be doing ps5/6 versions.

I'm not going to lie, I would be massively happy to be able to put my PS3 discs into the PS5 and get started. At the moment my Slim is still plugged in next to the TV but the controllers alone are wearing out and don't feel good compared to the DS5.
But I think that ship has sailed. Such a feature would have made a lot more sense at the console's release, as it would have been another selling point, but as the PS5 was completely sold out for years, pulled away from the competition and such a selling point became unnecessary, I no longer believe in Plug&Play PS3 games on PS5 emulation today.
Or they found a way to make money with it.
Damn . I'd even buy an official PS3 games emulator from Sony for the price of a full game at 80€ ..

Many people wont have purchased all the PS3 games they are interested in.

One way it would make financial sense for Sony is PS+ Premium: currently there are LOTS of PS3 games available via streaming, which I heard is of terrible quality (bad image quality, high latency).
If all these games are available for download and run at a decent quality (stable, smooth and maybe even higher res) it would make PS+ Premium way more attractive.
It would also make it possible to stream PS3 games via PS5 servers instead of aging PS3 servers, which will fail sooner or later. And the PS5 servers might even make a better streaming quality possible.

Another way to earn money is to make those games available for Sale via the Playstation store. Even if most games would only be sold for like 5-10 Dollars/Euro, this is income they would not get otherwise. While the demand will be not that high, it should still be a noticable income, easily offsetting the rather small cost of developing the emulator.

It would also be good for the plattform: here on GAF many stated that they would buy a PS5 if it would be PS3 compatible. Those people will most likely also buy newer games, making the playstation plattform itself stronger.
