I never had any trouble with the bomb missions, or the railyard for that matter.

Now, highways... highways are murder. Nothing but half cover for DAYS, no way to gain any kind of safe altitude, and almost all the cover you do have is about 2 spaces of safety at most since the cars are, as you'd expect, pointing up and down the map.

Thoughts on the game lately? Im excited but im slightly worried it's just more XCOM Enemy Unknown/Within and Im kinda burnt out on that.

The videos I've watched give me the impression it's very continuist. It's the same you have already played in EU and EW but with new mechanincs, improvements, systems and graphics.

You should watch some of the videos to make up your mind, because if you expect something radically different... you are not going to get it.

I'm thinking the ambush mechanic alone will speed up the first turns for each tactical mission, which is by far the worst part of EU - creeping forward at a snail's pace at the start of a UFO landing to not accidentally trigger 3 pods.

Heh. The biggest bonerkiller right now in running through vanilla EU/EW is realizing that as much fun you're having (or not having) you're eventually gonna have to do Base Defense and finally Temple Ship with their incredibly predictable layout.

I'd be surprised if that set piece predictability issue wasn't dealt with in some fashion for XCOM 2. Definitely remember there was talk about Temple Ship's design/development and what went wrong and what went right at some point in time.

The worst part of EU/EW was the clunk, every action had the game pause 3 times, switch the camera angle twice and then chug a bit for good measure. Looks like this has been improved quite a bit.

Same with general quality of life stuff like an evacuation system that actually makes sense.

Lol I didn't realize it until recently, but yeah, there's a lot of the slowmo

^sometimes was pretty bad on ps3... big clunky delays and the game had framerate issues and even crashed a lot. especially late game, i used to crash at least every 5 hours or so it seemed, especially late game (not sure why but it always got worse the farther I was into the game, maybe more soldiers/enemies/effects). so bad that once i even completely lost a save file (ironman no less). ps3 froze and after i restarted it, every time i tried to load the save, the ps3 froze again. luckily i had a save from about 5 hours earlier on the PSN cloud.

The slowmo can make some intense situations but eventually it loses its flare and you wish you could turn it off completely.

This is pretty much everything cinematic in XCOM. From Base Defense which was holy shit awesome the first time, to unskippable ending cutscene when you're rushing through Easy/EU games for Continental Fellow, to even the tutorial (thankfully that's skippable)

A QoL pass to make everything impertinent on repeat playthroughs skippable with spacebar or furious clicking should be mandatory for any game that has 'replay value' as one of its back-of-box bullet points.

(Borderlands 2 pls stop)

Yup, this small detail saves so much frustration.

Not sure in all my hours played if I've saved 18 out of 18 civilians before. Maybe, but I don't recall.

I like how a Sectopod spawned right inside that garage with a civilian. It's like...before I got there, what were they talking about? I imagine some cheesy elevator music playing while they both throw awkward glances at each other.

Getting close to XCOM 2 time. I have an impossible playthrough going, but I just don't have much fun with it. Classic difficulty is about perfect.

I'm not seeing any indication of a Mac version listed on the Steam page. If the Mac version does come to Steam at some point then yes you will be able to play it with that key

I see the apple logo right above the add to cart button. Along with windows and Steamily

EDIT:

Emailed Feral Interactive (the guys making the mac and linux version). They replied and let me know it would be available on February 5th, but system requirements had not yet been finalized.

i have a 13' macbook pro from 2010. Thats not going to be able to run this huh?

the first xcom on the app store says "2 ghz processor, 4gb ram, 256mb graphics memory, 15gb hd space.

so id say its likely going to take more than that and require the newest OS X version due to metal.

What's the general sentiment on the value of the Reinforcement Pack? Is it positioned to be the end-all be-all season pass, or will there be additional content we'll need to buy a la carte? Or an expansion like Enemy Within? I'm excited about XCOM 2 and all that, but I don't want to pick up the base game at launch, then get a season pass, plus another expansion next year, when I can just wait a year and get it all bundled together for much less.

I'm interested in it, but the only bit I'm REALLY interested in is the Shen's Last Gift bit, so I'll probably wait to pick it up until then, or when there's a decent sale.

Honestly, on its own, it's not that great a deal on paper, since we're not 100% sure how extensive the content will be. It's much better value in the DDE, where it comes with the digital OST, especially if you can still get the GMG 27% off code.

That said, since you can buy it separately, you could potentially get it for a stupid low price later, then get a deal on the expansion (if they're making one that isn't in the DLC).

Technically my lite-gaming laptop from last year can't run it. But I'm hoping that's just warped minimum specs. I'd like to think it's safe to assume that since my machine could run EU/EW on medium-high settings, it should be able to do XCOM 2.

Jake said they wanted to continue to produce content after the Reinforcement Pack things are done, but didn't commit to anything. Also said not to think of it as a replacement for an expansion. Personally I just preordered the edition that comes with it because Firaxis is one of the few devs I trust to make great additional content and I don't mind giving money to.

I wasn't sure if I was going to grab this at launch but since I skipped the Witness, I think I'll pick this up and jump right in. It looks so good, especially with such amazing mod tools.

Wrong about commas, wrong about everything
Quick question that was probably answered a couple of times, but do we know how the "time limits" work? Is it just "You have x turns to do y" or does the timer only start after the enemies find you? I'm still not sure what to think about those time limits.

I want to say I've seen both, but most tend to be from the get. You seem to get plenty of time though, it's just forcing you to be aggressive, especially when you're still in concealment.

Huh, okay. I will buy this game anyway, but hopefully it is rather lenient. I love being methodical in those games.

I haven't seen any turn limit shorter than 6-8 turns so far, so it's not too bad.

The only time limit that seems tricky is the VIP capture mission one, because if your troops don't get to the evac zone, they get captured.

Specialists can also complete many objectives remotely, so oftentimes you only need to be within LOS of the objective to complete it.

Time limits start from the get go. However in some missions once you've completed the task within the time limit you can then take as long as you want killing the rest of the enemies on the map.

I havent watched videos so im not sure, is the cinematic camera angle indicating a kill still in? I know some people hate this (because it ruins the surprise if its a hit or not?) But I loved it, especially with snipers.
