I don't think it'll be a sequel.
Probably like any other RPG series, just using the same codes, but not especially the story/universe.

I'm happier that we're getting a new Xenoblade instead of a new X.

The music sounds amazing too - having ACE back is wonderful.

Technically speaking, it could still be the same timeline.

It's hinted at that X takes place many, many, many thousands of years after Xenoblade, and having a direct sequel to the original wouldn't impede on that. I would assume that the big story hook for X was that the universe was going to be coming up to a similar event that would reset everything again like Zanza had done before, so there's still a hell of a lot of time to get to that point.

What Zanza and Meyneth did was creating a space time anomaly that warped Earth and "rewrote it" as they liked with the Monad = Alvis as the computer/creator. With Shulk rebooting everything as it was the result should be something very similar to Earth, with a couple of exceptions (Nopons and Melia's race seem to have survived). It did not seem to affect "the entire universe", at most the Solar System. And Shulk put and end to it

Like, if this is a "giant whales in the sky" setting, it's not even what the first Xenoblade implied as a possible outcome, so I'd wary of calling it a direct sequel until Takahashi or Soraya Saga say otherwise

Wow, I mean XBX's story was terrible compared to Xenoblade, but the whole excuse was that game #1 was just setting up the plot for a more story-driven game #2.

This is like if they made Xenosaga Ep1 and then their next game was Xenogears 2. I mean that's cool and all, but it just makes XBX look even worse if they ditch the franchise complete and the game universe never really amounts to anything.

Yeah, and I doubt this has any real ties to the first Xenoblade either. Between that and the more shounen-like aesthetic I'm kinda disappointed in a way. It'll probably be an entertaining game, but I'm starting to feel similar to how some Xenosaga fans did when Xenoblade came out. Takahashi seems more interested in building individual worlds for each game now, but I wish he could start telling a story that didn't end with one game again.

Also, I wonder if mechs will return here... I really hope those are back at least.

lol, you can tell who did and didn't grow up with 90s jrpgs based on how they react to the pants

Both Xenoblade games have had equipment affect the look of the characters anyway, so just equip some different gear if it bothers you that much ;)

The original Xenoblade's characters looked like shit, so I don't mind the design change. Especially because the world still looks amazing.

I am blown away by this team's work ethic. I thought with the first Xenoblade they could never top the immensity of that game with such a small team, and then they blew it away in scale with the next one (though I didn't end up liking it as much). And now here they come with round three, seemingly with no rest at all. It's mind-blowing. Really hope they learn from the problems of the last game, and this can be really amazing.

Completetly disagree. I prefer my JRPGS to be confined to a single game. Especially with how ridiculous dev times can get nowadays.

I do hope Mechs are back. They were one of the few things that interested me about X.

Call me when XCX-2 gets announced. I'll want the Sawano game.

But I'll keep an eye on this. I hope Mitsuda does more than one song this time.

I hope they are back too.

I'm not really feeling the main protagonist's design. Compared to Shulk, he definitely doesn't look as cool. And the pants remind me of Sora's outfit from KH1 except with the inner parts missing, and he has what looks like a scuba diving helmet on his back.

The part where he's riding a tiger looks like different armor so I guess they are keeping that aspect of the previous games where equipping armor changes your appearance.

Now bring me the official website so I can work on the game !

2017 is godly. I mean.. a new Xenoblade this exact same year we're already in.
That's just so unexpected.

Even aside from feeling like forgoing a direct X follow-up was wasted potential; (a standalone game or sequel to the original admittedly makes much more sense than trying to salvage an objective failure) I can't really get too excited about this game on its own merits yet. I'm sure the world will be beautiful and the soundtrack will be worth looking into, but the safe, bland art direction and more standard JRPG setting aren't doing much for me. I didn't even like most of the original's costume and weapon design, but the original Monado was a much more effective design than the sword that's been placed to call back to it in the trailer; and the character models looked like they actually belonged in the world much more than those of X or 2.

Who's doing the music? I want fantastic music like the original, and not whatever that crap was in Xenoblade X.

Same Team as the Original minus Shimomura.

It definitely seems like they're going for a more classic adventure vibe. The Huge Tree and unbelievably huge beast in the background (Holy shit is that one of the biggest things I've seen out of Monolith Soft, might even be bigger than Zu Pharg) give me huge Xenoblade vibes.
