Xenoblade 3D |OT| Is that a Monado in your pocket or are you just really feeling it?

EvilMario

Will QA for food.
I found myself sticking to Shulk, Reyn, and Sharla. I feel like i should switch out some people and try others. I did with Melia and shes alright, and i really dont want another swordsman out there.

suggestions?

Melia is great as a player controlled character and a very poor CPU.

Riki is great in both rolls. As a player controlled character, he can really control the battle. He has massive HP, can do a lot of damage, can inflict status, steal items, drop all aggro at once, heal your entire party.. a very versatile character.

Shulk and Riki were my two main characters my first play through. I'm using Melia on 3D now as I understand her character a lot more, but I do switch off to Riki from time to time as I enjoy the change in battle activity.

Some quick questions, thanks in advance.

Points of no return: Are they REALLY obvious? And are there more, or is it just the one that should be pretty easy to tell?

I just got to Eryth Sea. About how far am I into the game? A third or so? It feels like this is the start to the second act. More just a curiosity thing on this one.

Do Timed missions tell you before they disappear? I could have sworn there were still some Timed Quests in my menu, but after binge playing for hours on end maybe Ig finished them and don't remember. Do they just vanish?
The only real definite point of no return is before the last 2 bosses. There's 3 points though where access to certain locations gets blocked off once they're cleared.

Eryth sea is like
40ish%
of the way there if you ask me.

Timed quests only become unfinishable due to story reasons.

There's at least one more scene where he fixes/performs maintenance on stuff :p

Plus there are a few quests that touch on it. And he's delightfully nerdy in a couple of the Heart-to-Hearts.

No.

Its the entire game, story, world, and game mechanics.
And the only reason shulk didnt end up being zanzas patsy as planned, because of his background as a scientist/engineer, shulk began to comprehend fuctional programming logic, and how to use monads.

On Mobile, so multi-quoting would be a pain. Thanks for the quick answers!

I suppose if I'm that far already I'm not spending too much time on side quests after all. :p

Goddamn i forgot just how bas the companion A.I is, period. I can't even get Shulk to enhance normal weapons to strike Mechons without controlling him, which I don't like to do.

I'm at
sword valley
btw.

Hmm, if you ask me, I'd say it's for the best to just control Shulk when facing Mechon, or when facing enemies that constantly bring up visions.

Then dont? Its explicitely explained as unnecessary in game by that point of the game anyways.

The way he says this line is so damn hilarious. I've been cracking up for a good minute over it hahaha.

The other characters need the enhancement to register hits.
I always used weapons that could directly harm Mechon on all my characters by that point. And even then Shulk's AI still used the skill to enchant their weapons at the start of pretty much every encounter for some reason.

Finally got this game, and even though I'm only a couple of hours in I've already fallen in love. I know some people here are not enjoying the combat, but I am really having fun with it, because it reminds me a lot of the Gambit system from FF12, which is one of my favourite RPGs.

Just picked up Riki (Loved his introduction). Going to mop up some sidequests and maybe grind a few levels on my lunch break today while I get a feel for controlling Melia.

I was surprised to find out she was voiced by a pre-Doctor Who Jenna Louise Coleman. I must say this is probably the best JRPG I've ever played and I'll be sad when it's over. I think it helps that most of the time it feels more like a single player MMO (If you get my drift) than what we think of as a classic JRPG. The sci-fi setting helps a lot too.

So I've been constantly selling all the weapons/clothes that I don't use/makes my character stats weaker. Is that OK?

Its fine to sell old weapons and armor whenever. Well, technically its optimal to wait until you get Riki and he learns his skill to get more money from selling things, but money is so easy to get in this game it doesn't really matter.

So, started this during the weekend. The graphics are a bit rough, but somehow they add to the charm for me, like I'm playing a lost PS1 gem. The game exudes that feeling of playing something like Grandia or FFIX for the first time. It's really special. I do wish the lower screen had some sort of background instead of the black one it has (it's like they forgot to add it), and some of the menu textures are really pixelated, I find it hard to believe they couldn't have improved the fonts at least.

Having said that, this game will destroy me. I obsess too easily over the quests, and that's going to slow me down. Hopefully I'll learn to accept I won't be able to do them all without severely impacting the pacing of the game and be able to leave them undone so I can actually finish it some day. For now I'm talking to everyone and prioritizing the "named people" quests. I just got to the future-vision tutorial and it (along with the rest of the battle system) is pretty cool.

Having a blast so far.

Easy to get and not all that valuable. You shouldn't need to buy much other than intermediate art books.

OK thanks.

Also, I was just going through the Xenoblade X Twiiter thread and noticed this tweet:

duckroll said:
The new tweets are just Kojima talking about another thing they couldn't include in Xenoblade but wanted to. Xenoblade X will have a full enemy encyclopedia where you can view 3D models of monsters you have encountered, check what drop items they have, etc. It's something they wanted in Xenoblade, but didn't have the development time. He also teases that the New 3DS port of Xenoblade will include this as well.
Where can I find this in the game?

This was apparently a mistranslation and was really talking about the Model Viewer.

The Xenoblade wiki is a good source for finding random collectables and monster drops. I know some people don't like using guides, but if anyone is wanting to do as many quests as they can without going totally insane, I'd highly recommend using the wiki.

I can second this. It's also helpful for just finding quests. Doing laps around Alcamoth is the polar opposite of fun.

just for fun, tried out a few games on the (VERY) early in development remote play homebrew app for the 3DS/PC to see what other titles could look like downscaled Xenoblade style:

Metroid Prime could work really well as a N3DS exclusive. The N3DS has all the controls the GC pad has, plus one extra button (ZL)

For those of us that are still on the fence as to XBC3D, can you take similar pictures of the game running on a New 3DS (preferably an XL)? I'd like an idea of just how small the text appears when looking at the 3DS's actual pixel structure in 2d mode. It's hard to get a sense of that when looking at direct-feed footage of the game.

Off-screen camera footage like this would help a lot.

Between this and seeing that Paper Mario fake, I REALLY want the 3DS to be a portable Gamecube.

Also, is there any way to disable the huge "status cards" that float over enemies during battle? Sometimes they really get in the way, I wish they had relocated them to the lower screen.

Who are your other party members? Maybe try ai controlled Riki and sharla, given physical attackers are pretty useless in that fight

Melia (Me), Riki, and Sharla are who I've been using. I know she's weak to ether. I've gotten really close a few times but always died seconds from beating her. Everyone is level 69-70, is that too low? Also should I just focus on her or take out her summons as they appear then go back to her? My main issue is that Melia draws aggro way too much, and her healing can't keep up with the damage.

Jesus, what the shit is this, what a weird port.

Even as a huge fan of Xenoblade, even I've been thinking the same thing :p Heck, I just ran into a game freeze this morning after an audio glitch in the
High Entia Tomb
, that's on top of the UI audio glitches I've gotten at times. Then there's some of the graphical effects toned down, which affects the impact of certain environments. And the lack of touchscreen use, etc (despite the reasoning that it was to make the game experience the same as the Wii version, as a consumer I shouldn't be so willing to accept excuses like that). It's kind of obvious that the port was done as a way to make some money from the hardcore, yet still, a nagging part of me thinks I should expect better, especially for a game I love so much. I'm enjoying having portable Xenoblade, but when there's game-freezing glitches that could ruin the impression that newcomers to the series have, it's seriously unacceptable.

I think the boss gets weaker when minions aren't present but they do respawn

I'm still not getting any StreetPass hits through HomePass. The router is configured correctly and receiving hits for other games.

.

Text is not prominent at all in this game and even if you use subtitles, there is no problem reading any onscreen (or menu screen for that matter) text on an XL model.

That's all well and good, but I'd still like some off-screen shots of the game if anyone would be so kind. It would be sincerely appreciated.

Edit: Thanks SomewhatGroovy.

Ok I checked and for that boss battle, beating up the novas will decrease the boss's physical resistance significantly for each one. Maybe try using Reyn to gather aggro and deal damage once Novas are beaten, since I feel like he's better at gathering aggro than Riki

For that battle, I remember the strategy that worked for me was
to only use ether based party members. That includes Seven as a possible option. Control Melia and direct the other two to attack Lorithia, then have Melia target the nebulae. This prevents Lorthia from coming for Melia. Once Melia's finished off the nebulae, she can join the others and focus on Lorthia.

Oh yeah, for someone at that point, there's
no need to call Fiora "Seven", haha :p I did use a team of Fiora, Riki, and Melia to defeat Lorithia, but I made some art-seal resistance gems too. That battle was like the final exam it felt.

(Post Prison Island)
Fiora. She should be pretty effective together with Riki in drawing Aggro from Melia. Plus she has access to a self-heal Aura and various Ether arts. Though I always did prefer loading her up with Haste/Double Attack gems and then skill linking to let her heal herself with each Double Attack.

Google will answer.

Oh I see. Why do you guys use Seven? Did I miss something because at no point in the game was that name used. Is it because they're the seventh party member?

You might want to spoiler your post just cause the pronoun might give it away.
She's probably got that name due to her being the seventh party member you get

That and to avoid any potential spoilers since you can't really use sevens actual name without them

I know you said no swordsmen, but Dunban isn't just a swordsman, he's a badass extraordinaire. In all seriousness, he's an excellent tank and many people prefer him over Reyn because he can do more damage and the agility stat is pretty OP in general*, particularly for physical attack characters and facing stronger monsters. I swap out lots of characters but I always like Dunban in my party.

Riki is a good specialist that can double as both a passable tank and healer among many other things, and many people prefer him so they can leave the other two members to DPS. Pairs well with Melia from what I hear as well, though I don't have much experience with her.

Melia, as many people have stated, is a good option for the main playable character because of the ether abilities (*- which get high DPS and don't rely on agility as much).

Seven is for DPS.
Her arts are tempting to use, but she's all about pure DPS.

Alot of people don't like Sharla because dedicated healing either isn't necessary or can be accomplished through other means, But... well... I like her voice actor. So there's that.

I took a break from this game, trying to finish through Majora's Mask. I turned it back on last night... and I figure out why I love this game.

I love killing animals! The combat system is so much fun, it's my favorite part of this game is just to run around enviornment killing bunnies and deer and whatever other monsters you find. And on top of that this game actually has a very fun combat system. That's awesome. It feels so MMO yet it has a linear storyline with interesting characters. Such a perfect combination, and then to have this on hand held!!

My friend is playing this for the first time and is loving it. Says it's the best rpg he's played in years. He's fascinated by the story. He's guessed some of the twists though.

I definitely prefer this version to the wii version. Portability makes it easier to do the side quests.

Everyone knows the best part of Xenoblade is when you get to Gaur Plains and you see "Baby Animal" and "Niece Animal" wandering around. You know you want to roll up to every one of them and MURDER THEIR ENTIRE GENERATION. And those Lv.70 monsters? You know you'll be back to kill them too!
