Admiral and Weebos, I appreciate the replies. Thanks.

I will say that I read a random review that mentioned the objectifying of women and was wondering what they were talking about since I hadn't really noticed it. It turned out I had used fashion gear early on for the two main women characters so they never had bikini armor on and I didn't really notice much of it during the main story outside the instances Admiral and Weebos mentioned.

You will see random player characters throughout the world and a lot of them wear swimsuits unfortunately. Not sure if there is a way to turn that off or not.

I have the first set listed here, and should have most of the second set added tonight.

Thanks! I somehow managed to recognize which one I was missing. lol Awesome list, really helpful.

Is there even any point in trying the final chapter before having a team of four level 50 skells? I managed the first
three fights
, but lost three teammate skells. Those three didn't last long in what I assume is the final fight
against Lao.

I beat it way too easily with just one Skell of level 50. Bring the heavy level 30s with you, focus on the Vita and use the G busters in order to bind it all the time. This way it won't even manage too shield itself and you'll pass this phase with 4 skells. The beasts after that are extremely easy with 4 skells.

About Lao, keep in mind that at his last phase he drains all your fuel, so you have to fight him on foot. If you're around level 50, you'll probably manage to beat him. If not, die three times on the very last phase and the game will ask you to decrease the difficulty, which makes it far easier.

Does anyone know of a good guide online or a good video tutorial on combat? I actually have the game guide but even after reading that I still don't understand combat. What I don't get is:

- How do I avoid enemy attacks? Half the time I get large chunks of health knocked off and the enemy isn't even looking at me, I can't even tell why I'm losing health.

- Soul voices, I can't hear what they are yelling over the battle music and I see no on screen indications telling me which type of attack I should use based on what they are calling out. Am I just missing it or not looking in the right spot?

- The "B" prompt, is there a way to know when that may be about to pop up on the screen? By the midway point of most battles I am in a cold sweat and barely notice it before it's gone, haha.

- Any other pointers to just do better?

- The important part is when the attack was initiated; the enemy could have turn around or even be far off when the attack actually hits.
It's a bit strange at first (already was that way in the first Xenoblade), but you get used to it. Especially since it also applies to your attack on ennemies.

- Your art of the correct type will flash. If nothing flashes, you can't do the soul voice, be it because you don't have an art of that type, or that the chance for soul voice is over.

- No idea, happens to me a lot.

- The way I do it (which isn't necessarily the good way), is to actually not look at the enemy that much, but rather at my arts bar (for soul voices) and my relative position to the enemy (as I have a lot of passives and arts with backstab bonuses).
Try to keep a variety of different art types, so you can answer soul voices. Don't use your arts as soon as they recharge, but keep at least one of each type charged for when a soul challenge appears.
Similarly, wait for their second tier charge before using your most powerfull arts.

I think I only had one level 50 Skell at the time. Note that the default equipment for most Skells is not that great, other than the beam glaive thing. You can get a lot more out of just one by buying new armor parts from the shop (you can get +phys damage on top of the default +therm damage, for example) and by buying or farming better weapons (the Dragon's Maw is a decent shop choice, and you can buy shield equipment and thermal grenades).

I got it done with
Irina being my fourth, one lvl50 skell and three lvl30 skells. First tried around level 45 and couldn't beat Vita. Came back around level 50 (with that one lvl50 skell) and got it all done no problem.

The Skell part of the final fight isn't even that hard.

It's the forced ground segment at the end that's bullshit. The entire ending segment is garbage. Had to way overlevel in order to beat it.

no, i had to sell my wii and then i never had time cause of work, but i played around 20 hours of it and i loved it. so if this is anything like that but better, than i guess im buying right now.

Then go for it I guess. It's on a bigger scale and despite not having done many story quests it seems kinda interesting with some nice twists here and there.
Gameplay and exploration are really addicting though, get ready ;)

Oh, is that what happened in that part of the last fight? I couldn't figure out why my Skell wasn't doing anything so I hopped out and fought on the ground for a bit and then got back in later to finish the fight.

So I thought this game was saving after missions but I just somehow lost several hours and many missions of gameplay. Do I have to manually save?

Is there a wiki for this game, or a good guide for the battle system? I'm trying to figure out how to set up my Arts, but for the life of me I can't read the tiny letters on the screen (same with mission objectives)

I know the basics, but I have trouble remembering the chains that initiate the higher critical damage.

Also, some guide for the best placement of Probes?

I had to cheese the hell out of that segment. Hop in and out of my Skell in order to let the fuel build up again. It's so stupid. (Ch12)
The chimera can spam the stupid fuel draining move so you can get really unlucky. I tried binding him then hitting him with a super move the moment he got out.
It's such an utter buzzkill.

Thanks for all the pointers on combat.

I'll have to keep a better eye out for my Arts flashing. I think I have soul voices active but I should probably double check that.

Thanks for the advice. I have one level 50, and three level 30s, but I'm pretty sure that they're all light skells. I'll change the skells around and try again.

That's interesting.
In my first failed attempts at the final bosses at lvl 45, I did better against all of them outside of my skells. So when I got to that point again at lvl50, the forced ground combat for the final fight was actually a relief.

I did the final fight without using Skells at around level 50ish. I used the first class with longsword/assault rifle and skills from galactic knight, samurai gunner, and mastermind. Had Elma, Lin and Irina in my party.

I guess it depends on your setup, I had a nightmarish time with the final segment despite my main character having top gear at level 58 and my partymembers being level 55. My fourth party member almost instantly died once
the mini chimeras popped out.

Bleh, I removed Irina from my party to do some of her heart-to-heart stuff and now she's not appearing at her usual spot for recruitment.

Any clue where she is?

I've been able to take on giant enemies as long as they aren't clearly meant to be fought with skells due to how much damage they do. Most folks who can take on these enemies on foot have perfected the overdrive build so they can stay on it forever. I tried to do it but it's just not for me.

When they need to have their heart to hearts it's usually at a different spot in the city. May even be at specific times.

Being able to heal and controll the healing in a fight instead of the derpy cpu doing it is a big game changer. You can always keep evasion up on the whole party 24/7, barrier to absorb 24/7 and after you get a good amount of tp you just do this

Blade level is 10 max right?
So that'd mean there's no way to bring up all three field skills to 5? Would'nt that also mean you can't get 100% of the map, as some treasures are lv 5 iirc?

You have to complete a quest for level 5, you can't get it with the Blade level.

Boss Doggie

all my loli wolf companions are so moe
When can I get Skells?

Also the mission terminal is the best thing to happen. No more scouring the map just in case you missed a mission shit from Xenoblade.

Melee weapons should be your default for auto-attacks if you don't have any particular ranged buffs active, but you're supposed to spread out arts for both; at least enough to respond to Soul Voices.

but those fin funnel things are ranged right? :(

I thought they were melee type.

Well that's dumb.

It's actually lifesaving lol

I remember people complaining about different affinity quests for reasons often related to the requisites to complete it, now imagine if they game autosaved after you accepted one of these quests or after a tyrant smashed your Skell.

The game has only one slot, and it's only natural that you have absolute control over it. Then of course they should have made different slots like in the first XB, with possibly an autosave slot and a quicksave icon on the gamepad. Now that would have been obviously better, but if you only have one slot you do not want autosave.

I know.

But I just noticed I did my math wrong... somhow forgot you start at level 1, so only need 3 points to get to 4, and therefor 5, so Blade level being limited to 10 makes sense.

Fashion wear is such a godsend in this game. I'd be annoyed if it wasn't a feature because for the most part a lot of the armor looks the same and it makes it hard to tell who's who otherwise.

Very upper left needs Mechanical 5 and the one in the middle just above New LA requires the flight module. I spent way too long trying to get to those only to realize it was impossible with my current abilities.

I just got my first Skell, and I'm not seeing anything about Skell insurance... How does that work? Where can I purchase it? Or can you not get Skell insurance on your first Skell...?

It can't be bought separately - it's automatic, and applies to three repairs after you first buy a Skell (including the first one that's given to you). Though the counter doesn't deplete if you get a perfect on the ejection QTE; or if AI party members use it while you're still insured.

I do have a critique on this game when it comes to combat. The last game notified you of the type of AoE that the enemy was about to use (circle AoE, cone AoE, front AoE). It doesn't in this game and it sucks when you get hit by a powerful attack that probably could've been avoided. Guess that would devaluate Soul Voice's utility if that were the case.

Also as long as the skell you give to the party member has at least 1 insurance left they get unlimited use.

Ah, okay, thank you! Is there a menu where you can check your insurance to see how many remaining repairs you have left?

It should be listed with all of the Skell's other stats.

I think he was just clarifying that you still had to have one repair left in order for your other party members to still have infinite insurance - it doesn't deplete when they use it, but if it runs out while player controlled and you give the skell to them, you'll have to pay for repairs.

Oh, okay, I didn't understand that he was specifically talking about the other party members besides the character you're controlling. Got it, thanks!

I don't have any skells yet, but I see a lot of talk about buying new ones, and also that they're super expensive.

Does the game change up in some way post-skell that makes it easier to buy more of them at that point? How exactly is this going to work? What's the best skell-related thing to aim for right after getting my first?

Party members always perfect the escape prompt, but when you have no insurance left you'll have to pay even if you get a perfect. So you'll need to pay to repair any broken skell with 0 insurance left, even if a ai is using it
