Welp, I have to buy a WiiU now.

Though, I am a little concerned with the fact that you create your own character and that they seem to be a silent protagonist. Doesn't always bode well for a good story like what I expect from a Xeno game...

I'm a little bit worried about that too, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

The graphics look pretty rough especially the character models. That blocky as hell hand is not something I'd expect on your player character (maybe on some nobody background NPC).

At what points is the music prominent? I didn't have my volume too high but the music seemed drowned out by the voices...

Any online mode details for this game or is it just offline? I know I asked this on other thread but no response. Sorry...

The original reveal showed some sort of text chat window; but that's all we have I think, maybe they just abandoned the online multiplayer mode idea since then

If there was some late game connection, they certainly wouldn't reveal it at this point.

Well, there's the Shulk lookalike in the original trailer (but with the information we know now it's probably the main character customised to look like him), but there's also the Monado hairpin and the Nopon in the E3 trailer. Notably, the Nopon is wearing Bionis-style clothes.

I'm conflicted about creating your own character and that being the "main character" for the story. I'm not a huge fan of silent protagonists in general because it makes the dialogue rather awkward sometimes. It's a nice touch for some customization, but having a silent character is kind of a bummer, imo.

Watching some of the gameplay footage helped me to come over my initial disappointment after seeing the story trailer at their conference.

Excited.

Livestream looks considerably better. They clearly have some goodies to show. What the heck were they doing with that trailer?

Story trailer or not it needs to sell to people. They release a Japanese voiced, english subbed trailer with a focus on the worst looking parts of the game that laymen would call Wii graphics and never look at the title again. This strategy is applied on a game whose predecessor sold far more in the West than Japan.

On top of that, they give the game a confusing title that even some Gaffers were not sure was a remake or a sequel.

Marketed well, this open world RPG with a 9.0+ predecessor has the potential to sell and help advertise the Wii U to a broader audience in the U.S. & Europe. See Dragon Age Inquisition or The Witcher 3 trailers.

But this is Nintendo, I should know better.

People wanted a story trailer to explain what was going on. Monolith made a story trailer.

Besides that, the trailer was still good and the gameplay has been outstanding. I can not wait for this game.
The WiiU has the best upcoming lineup of any system I've ever seen.

Yeah, and I hope it doesn't affect the plot, since it seems all the Xeno games give the main character a "surprising past!" that is dramatically revealed later on (Fei, Shion, Shulk, etc.), but it seems the plot is already over-the-top so I'm not too worried about them toning it down.

There's also that Social thing in new footage here, in the start menu and some popups which hopefully someone will get to translating. 2nd Trailer still had smaller possible hints with Player 1,2,3,4. Just think they aren't ready to talk about it yet.

Doubt it.
It probably takes place in the new world during Xenoblade's ending.
That X=Cross thing makes me wonder:
is it possible that the original universe WASN'T obliterated, that either it was just Earth (akin to Xenosaga) or that a new, divergent universe was created from that experiment? They were talking about Earth as I recall so that implies that unless they just named the planet the same thing afterall that we're seeing a sort of cross over going on.

Agreed, but the game probably supports online multiplayer, it would make sense to let players create their own avatar. We will see...

Just finished watching the Digital Event kick-off video, I cheered at the Nopon showing up :-p I love the aesthetic of this game! I know people were saying things about the faces being bad, but to me, it's like they're the CGI of the PS2 come to life (I say that in a good way!) I think it's like having the mind of a designer from that era, finally being able to realize something he wanted to make back then ;-)

The plot is advanced through the supporting characters like in many traditional RPGs.

Just wanted to pop in after the Treehouse stream. Really looking forward to this. All of the cutscenes at the start made me think it might have been a lot more like Xenosaga, and the trailer beforehand contributed to that thought. However, after not too long it looks like you're left to your devices and it looks like the Xenoblade gameplay we all know. Class changing in mid battle I feel is going to be a very key mechanic to tougher encounters.

It looks like how I'd want a sequel to Xenoblade to look. Still interested on multiplayer information, should that be a thing. Also whether you can play as the other characters like Elsa.

the character models don't seem strange to me and I never played Xenoblade. I did play Xenogears and all the Xenosaga games though, so that must be what I'm associating them with.

The link in the post above you:

The night to day change scene when the mist goes away and the sun shines forth and the camera pans over the environment and the animals living in it. The music there made me feel soooooooo good. I love it!!

Oh yeah, there were several points where I noticed the music changes even though it was hard to hear. The soundtrack is probably the aspect I'm least concerned about. It's going to be great, in all likelyhood...hopefully.

The opening cutscene reminded me of the opening of Xenosaga 2.

The reactions in this thread were bound to happen. I pointed out in the initial thread how horrible this looked and people insisted it was a place holder...... that they chose to show in the initial reveal trailer.

I knew that the first story trailer would have people freaking out once they saw the mannequin faces up close and personal.

Its only really the female faces that look off. Especially Elma? I forget her name already. But yea its not a deal breaker for me and yes its been known. The cries of downgrades should be silenced now. Game looks like it always has.

I can think of a certain Star Wars game that has both a customizable main character and a surprising past for that character. I can also think of a certain Square-Enix game that has a silent protagonist with a surprising back story.

I don't think it'll be a problem.

Okay I saw the Nintendo E3 treehouse........flipping flip

This game looks amazing. Though I still have my doubts on the story gameplay more than makes up for it.

Day 1 etc etc

Do want to know when in 2015 its coming though. I'm sorry X but Bloodborne will take priority.

Summer 2015 will be perfect for me
