Do we know anything of the game's story? Is the main character a silent piece of cardboard ala most create a character games, or is there a set personality, and you pick the body/voice of them, like FE Awakening?

Whoa good job:

I've gathered up all of the wildlife we've seen thus far in X, and I've attempted to translate their names:

If you spot any errors in my translations or notice that I've missed anything, let me know. :)

I've said it before, and I'll say it again: the fauna design in this game is among the best I've ever seen - from a video game or otherwise. My favorites have to be...

...the "amphicoelias" for its dizzying size, its cephalofoil head, and those long, expanding thingamabobs on its back
...that, er... mutant reptile reindeer thing with the moss/some sort of vegetation growing on its back
...the flying thing with all those fins that makes whale noises (reminds me of a "globster" I once saw)

Also, I don't know if you guys have noticed, but the aerial animals (like those prawn-looking things, the whale-like creatures among the former, and the fin-y, whale noise-making things) all look like creatures we'd see inhabiting our waters. I half-expect to run into an alien equivalent of a megalodon when I'll be flying through the skies. :P

It makes you wonder, too: if the water population is out floating about, what can we expect to be swimming in the oceans?

You're amazing. <3

Great work, onilink88! You also have this giant floating animal I'm most fascinated with so far. It's in the third pic from below. That thing must be way bigger than the hammerhead dinosaurs.

Why did they decide to name the game Xenoblade Chronicles and not just Xenoblade? Is that what the text underneath the Japanese box art translates to?

Amazing! I really like your in-depth posts. The stuff we can still extract from this footage is mind blowing.

I hadn't even considered this but going underwater would be so cool. Maybe there'll be a diving Doll?

The text under the Japanese logo is just the JP version of Xenoblade and the last word is Cross, hence why some people call it Xenoblade Cross. That's what it says there in Japanese.

Chronicles most likely just exists to give westerners a familiar word. "Xenoblade? What is a Xenoblade? Oh ... "Chronicles" ...might be an epic adventure?"

edit: I just realized you're referring to the original game. The Japanese under the word Xenoblade is just Xenoblade in Kanji or Katakana or whatever (can't tell them apart, sorry). Xenobureido. Chronicles is strictly for the western markets.

Specifically NA, I don't think the PAL release included Chronicles. Not sure about the new game.

Also, I think the intended pronunciation is "Cross" worldwide, but that will never stick here in NA because nobody will instinctively pronounce X "Cross." It's going to be Xenoblade Chronicles Ex.

PAL was Chronicles too, at least UK was.

Thanks, guys. Just be wary of some of those translations; I'm not confident in all of 'em.

I dunno about being bigger than the dinosaur (that thing is, no hyperbole, a walking building), but it could very well be massive. And now that I'm getting a good look at it, it sorta reminds me of a sea anemone:

EU even pimped the "Chronicles" part harder than NA.

All we know for sure is that the people localizing it are pronouncing it as "Ex" and that the Japanese says "Cross." Will be interesting to hear Iwata pronounce the English name during a Direct for the first time or something.

Here's a comparison of all logos:

ゼノブレイドクロス
ゼノブレイド = Xenoblade (Zenobureido)
クロス = Cross (Kurosu)

Yeah that Chronicles was clearly a NoE thing.

Too much work to change the title screen back... but at least they downplayed it.

Playing through Xenoblade again currently to hype myself up for X. Hopefully we'll be seeing alot more footage of this game sometime soon!

great job with all those monsters!
Hype intensifying...!!!
Does someone fear that the Xeno 3DS port will somehow "justify" a delay for this new episode?

I'm hoping there are other cities and civilizations to encounter. I'm a little worried that the setting may be a barren planet with only wildlife. It would suck if Neo LA is the only city, but I doubt it. Maybe we go to different planets in the game.

Pretty sure (though would need to confirm) that in the treehouse footage they refer to Neo LA as the "first town". I would be amazed if it was the only one given how Xenoblade worked.

Probably it has been posted somewhere, and we have probably guessed it before, but here is a little tidbit of how the gamepad will be used for XCX. This is from the EDGE magazine:

“We decided that it would be perfect to use as a navigation device, in the same way that a lot of tablet computers are,” Takahashi said. “We’ve put some important features relating to the game system and your objectives onto the GamePad, so I feel that this should create a very user-friendly experience for players.”

just noticed they got rid of the 'swoosh' on the letter 'X' for xenocross.
hope that's not permanent.
the swoosh harkens back to the series' xenogears heritage for me. i love that swoosh. hope they keep it.

bring the swoosh back, takahashi!

In the US it's not pronounced cross because Xenoblade Chronicles Cross sounds awkward. I don't know why they added the word Chronicles to the title in the first place. Should've just left it at Xenoblade.

Wow, onilink! Those are incredible. But my heart can't take it. Those shots are just astounding.

They always cracked me up in the Wii version. Flabbergasted Jerome LOL.

I loved those too. I ran into Immovable Gonzalez at level 90 or whatever, and immediately turned around and said out loud "Hey man you can be whatever you wanna be. Don't let me stop you!"

I have to say, I was already sufficiently hype for X. But now, after starting, and playing 3 hours of, xenoblade chronicles today, I am really excited!

Just 97+ more hours to go! I wish I could go and discover all the amazing things for the first time again.

Thanks Onilink for those screenshots. This game has some of the most unique and elegant creature designs i have seen in any game.
