So everyone, we went from Ace+Shimomura to Sawano, completely different styles to completely different settings. Now what composer you'd like for MonolithSoft next main RPG?

Well my impression is that X's better than the original in almost all subjects (including music, art and design, combat, exploration, quest management, characters and other systems). I won't say story just yet because my japanese is not good enough and I didn't finished the game, but the bits I know and until chapter 6 I like this game story and theme way better than the Wii game
(and the promise of more and better chapters in the future as this is like a Prologue of a bigger story)
.
It's impossible to surpass the two titans setting: that was a perfect concept that Mira can't match, and the non-linear progression is very different so I understand how some people won't like it. The online elements and avatar are other so-so things for me. But these things are little concerns that don't eclipse in any way the game for me, and definitely don't make the game worse than the first one.
The japanese import thread was full of people with similar impressions as mine, but for some reason, only the fewer negative ones mattered in the end.
I guess with almost a week until these reviews appear, there won't be many thoroughly detailed impressions appearing. Definitely gonna start keeping this off my mind until then.
Baten Kaitos collection with 3. ̶P̶l̶e̶a̶s̶e̶ ̶b̶e̶ ̶e̶x̶c̶i̶t̶e̶d̶.̶ Please don't lose your mind.
No there is not dual soundtrack in the game. I dont think you can just bee Line the story but someone will quickly correct me if I'm wrong you can certainly cut down the amount of questing to a minimum but I can't tell you how that would affect your experience.
Yes, you can (you will just have just a minimum of sidequests as requirements, main story is like 20+ hours of gameplay) but like Fantasy Life (3DS) the core of the game is outside of the main story. If you want to play a game on the Wii U just for the story, play Bayonneta or Wonderfull 101 or Fatal Frame instead.
Just doing the main story usually made testers (from Japan import thread) bitter.
If you hated Xenoblade you most likely won't like this game. You can pretty much ignore all side-content, but to advance certain story missions you need to have portion of the map explored, and done some "Kizuna" quests, which are quests that raise the affinity between you and your party members.

As a big Evangelion fan, I'd love some kind of collaboration with Shiro Sagisu. His soundtracks for both original series and the new films are amazing.
For me, the battle is faster than in XB. You don't need to have a healer or too many healing arts because of the Soul Voice system so you can pick more offensive/defensive arts in you palette. You can change in real time from range to melee weapons and adapt your characters to different styles and arts with the Class system. I like also the expanded commands you can give to your team with the '+' button menu so it's more difficult that the IA mess things. OC gear and double casting your arts are also a nice additions. And mechs. Learning how different position and elevation affects the attack (in a deeper way than XC) and being able to attack/destroy specific parts of your enemy is also cool.

Overclock Gear sounds so awesome to use, specially those infinite combos. Overclock huh I cant wait to the game to release over here, so we can get that spoiler thread going again, so many things to discuss...

I watched a couple of early streams of the JP version and it seemed like the battle system was slower, but its good to hear from someone who's played the game that its not. I guess early streamers just didn't know how to take advantage of the battle system.
Im willing to sign a petition to get baiten kaitos and orgins rereleased as remasters, games I really want to play but not sure if I want to bite the bullet on their prices on amazon.
One of the more downer impressions so far. Mostly talking about the overall immersiveness of the world. They don't like how affinity missions lock you in. They were bothered by some of the "fight monster that appears at this time/collect item that you don't know where it is" stuff. Also thought it was a bit stiff in terms of voice acting. Quests don't "take you down a rabbit hole" like other open world games. World not as memorable as other open worlds. They don't talk much about the gameplay systems from what I listened. I didn't listen to certain parts because I don't wanna know the specifics of particular quests, so I might've missed some key details.
They praised GTA V a bit as a sort of comparison, which kinda turned me off because I was really unimpressed with that game. Couldn't care less about its world or gameplay, though the story and writing was nice. Kind of off topic but I just gotta get that outta my system lol. Their overall points seem fair but not surprising as far as the Xenoblade series is concerned. It's one of those situations where it's like, I agree that these things they're complaining about are in the game, but they probably won't bother me nearly as much as it bothers them.
@Malus : from what you're saying they seems didn't played much the game.
The gameplay mechanics are part of the core of the game and if they kinda skipped it... then instead praised other AAA open world games...
I'd be happy with a Baten Kaitos HD collection! Give the first game a new localization and clean up some of its other rough edges, many of which are easily fixable.
There's the recording quality and then there's the acting itself. With the sound quality, there's a hollow cardboard-tube sound that gradually improves as your character (a guardian spirit) becomes closer to the main human character. Sort of an interesting idea, but not really a good one. You can fix this by switching to surround sound in the settings though, so it's not a big deal.
Unfortunately, it doesn't fix the issues with the actual acting, which ranges from okayish to dreadful. Actually Mizuti and some of the villains are pretty good, but that's it (Kalas is decent about 90% of the time, but the remaining 10% tends to be in the most critical story moments!).
Honestly, I've grown to enjoy the cheesy fun that the VA brings to the battle chatter. Though it definitely brings the story down combined with a somewhat tepid English script and some pacing issues in the first half.

To be honest, I'd rather have a full blown re-imagining of the series (with fully traversable 3D environments) than a few remasters. Of course, that's about as likely to happen as us getting a Baten Kaitos 3. Oh well.

Yeah but the gameplay systems are pretty complex so it's understandable that they wouldn't get into it during a podcast. I'm sure in the review they'll touch upon that aspect.

To me the prerendered environments (which were a retro throwback even in the Gamecube days) are one of the things that make Baten Kaitos great. I'd want to keep them, especially if they could find a way to make more dynamic cutscenes work with them.

It is finally the time we get Power Metal music for Jrpg.^_^
And a bit of topic here. To all who have downloaded the pack here. I am currently using the HDD Docking system. This is not going to ruin my Wii U here right?T_T
I cannot find any single Y cable in my country here.T_T

Completely agree. Prerendered would set it apart from most other RPGs of this gen. It's part of why I loved Bravely Default so much. I wouldn't want a fully 3D BK, which is why I think 3DS would be a good fit for the series. A fitting swan song to the 3DS like Origins was to Gamecube

With so many people talking about Baten Kaitos, maybe I should go back and replay it. I played it a few years ago but got stuck in some dungeon, and couldn't proceed (the one with a retro-style area in it). I quit and never went back, altough I like the game.
Then again, I don't have a GameCube anymore, and Baten Kaitos Origins was never released in Europe anyway. Hopefully, if they ever make 3, they release a collection.
Oh, and I still want that Xenosaga HD Trilogy I've been asking in Miiverse E3-communities since 2013.
