It's available in black as well.

There are other pictures that show the off angle view, but they are worthless since it is a dummy intended for retail rather than a real device. The viewing angles are excellent though, as good as any other LCD phone on the market.

Specs round up:

5" 1080p AH-IPS LCD screen
Snapdragon 800
2GB RAM
16GB storage + microSD
20.7MP 1/2.3" sensor camera, 28mm equivalent, f2.0
~3000mAh battery
Android 4.2.2 at launch, 4.3 planned for October
~£529, €599, $759 MSRP offline.

THe Xperia still has that great design about it, but actually holding it is a bit uncomfortable with the more pointed edges and rectangular shape.

Otherwise specs look great and as expected.

Yeah, that tiny camera won't touch either Nokia 808, nor Lumia 1020. It does look sleek, tho.

Biggest sensor in an Android phone. And it doesn't have an ugly bump on the back. This is more phone than camera which the 808 and 1020 can't really claim.

I've held one and the sides are slightly tapered which makes it much more comfortable than the Z which had sharp edges.

It also has a metal build which makes it slightly nicer to hold than the plastic in the Z.

More like the Xperia Z camera version basically updated with Snapdragon 800.

Internally at SMC it is in the same stream as Z Ultra rather than Z/ZL.

Dedicated shutter button. I missed it in the xperia z specially with its size. Time to upgrade my Z to a Z1. Is it LTE Tmobile compatible the unlocked version?

Oh you frequently try out newer phones? Sounds like a great mix of a phone then!

Looks like the C6906 version is compatible with ATT/Tmo LTE.[/QUOTE]

Yeah, the 906 is the US version. It will be good for LTE there on GSM carriers.

As a side note, the notification light is very cool, definitely a step up on the ZL.

I wouldn't say frequently...

MicroSD?

I am in.

As soon as its available for TMobile I will buy it and break the contract next month.

Sorry Samsung, until Note 3 has a similar camera its nice knowing you.

The 808 I'll give you. But the 1020 is a full featured, great phone. It's nothing like those weird Samsung mutants.

Specs sound nice, actual handset looks fairly uninspiring. I don't know what it is, just feels like the front is missing something.

Hopefully it feels a bit snappier than the Xperia Z when I've had a whirl with it, it just seemed... stuttery at times even with that monster CPU and Jelly Bean.

It still has that stupid hump that people don't want. The 1020 sacrificed form of the phone side to make the camera better and Sony have made compromises to the camera in the Z1 to make the best phone possible. Since this is going to sell as a phone and not a camera, I know which strategy makes more sense.

The 1020 has hardly lit the world on fire after going on sale either. The 920 is still probably Nokia's best selling premium handset despite having a much worse camera with a much smaller sensor.

What the hell does this even mean? Maybe with the 808, but 1020 isn't a camera with a dial pad slapped onto it.

You know what, I might ditch the planned HTC One for myself and hop aboard the Z1 if I can get a good enough price by 2 weeks time.

Its probably the sensor on Cybershot H200 with faster pimage processing. You can just see the photos on flickr.

All new sensor. Better details and better low light characteristics since it only has an LED flash.

Shitty hump which makes the phone shitty. Not really a comment on WP tbh, more about compromising the form of the phone to make the camera better.

Does that hump make the phone hard for you to hold? Does it make it difficult for you to slide it into your pocket?

The way you talk you'd think the phone looks like this on a permanent basis.

And if it did, I'd agree with you.

But this relatively innocuous hump?

I don't see the problem.

A bit off topic I know, but I just wanted to respond to that comment.

The 1020 will have noticable superior IQ than whatever on the Sony Z1. But 808 also has noticable better IQ than 1020. The build in neutral density filter really helps in day time.

Global release in the third week of September. US release is unknown for now. It could also be out in the second week of September in select Asian markets (HK, China).

awesome. my contract run out at the end of sep - the timing just couldn't be more perfect.

UGH. And I was about to buy the Moto X too.

Going to see how the battery and antenna performs on this before deciding...
