Yakuza 0 |OT| Yes, you can start with this one!

I did the opposite. You can farm shakedowns with the slugger style heat action haven't invested at all in beast style.

Yeah you can do that, but only Kiryu has the CP perk where you get more money than you lost from Mr.Shakedown. That's the sixth option on Kiryu Battle CP exchange. The curve is way faster that way at least when you are making actual billions of yen.

No game has made me cry harder than the end of chapter 14.

I was originally going to just try to finish all the substories and not go for 100% completion but the disco minigame is kicking my ass. Guess I'll just have to take the L and move on.

I know that feeling. It's more likeley i will finish the gambling mini games before getting a good rank on disco.

Getting closer near the end now and I'm at Chapter
14
. What you learned in the previous chapter was just wow, honestly did not expect those surprises....pretty stupid of me since it's a Yakuza game and there's always some crazy twists here and there near the end of the game.
When Makoto got scared and said that she knew that voice, I was like "Aw hell no......he's THAT f'ing guy?! This asshole."
.

As of right now, 0 is probably tied with 2 as my favorite! It's been fantastic so far and I'm so glad that it's getting much love from older fans and a LOT of newcomers to the series. I honestly didn't expect a Yakuza game to make it past 100 pages but here we are!

How I will feel once 0 is over.

Man... I was REALLY excited for this game and after putting about 5 or so hours into it, while I am really engrossed in the story, I find the gameplay to just be.... boring. Does it pick up or have I pretty much seen the formula?

8bit

Knows the Score
Fwiw - he's playable in Dead Souls, which I feel gets a bad rep.

Did laugh when Kiryu says to Miracle Johnson that he'll never have to fight zombies again.

Also, Dead Souls has the Dojima in a dress mission which was amazing.

i'm guessing you can pick stuff up in kiwami & 6?

Kiwami uses the same battle system as Yakuza 0. Rush still can't pick things because that would be overpowered while all the other styles can.

Yakuza 6 already uses a completely different battle system. There's no more multiple battle styles as far as I know, just a single one. And you should be able to pick things since this is a thing ever since Yakuza 1.

Finished Ch 12.

Question:
I think I missed why Sagawa wants Makoto dead. He's taking orders from Shimano, but he's also Tojo. Shouldn't they want to get the land too?

The details of their plan is better explained on the final chapters so it's better for you to read once you finished the game. If you must know:

Sagawa and Shimano are sworn brothers, so when Shimano asked for a favor, Sagawa was determined to see it through. In this case, Shimano had asked Sagawa to oversee Majima performing a hit on Makoto.

Shimano expected that Majima wouldn't be able to perform the hit and that he would protect the girl. Then he would use Majima to get in contact with Makoto to sell him the Empty Lot. Shimano would then deliver the land to the Omi Alliance, another large yakuza group which isn't friendly with the Tojo Clan.

If the Omi Alliance had the Empty Lot, they would eventually control Kamurocho and cripple the Tojo Clan. Shimano would then use the opportunity of a weakened Tojo Clan and his ties to the Omi Alliance to become the chairman of the Tojo Clan by force.

Majima: but I want to get back into the yakuza

Me: YOU RUN THAT CLUB BITCH

Did you managed to create a Sagawa mode an lock Majima into another club for life ?

90% of the battle system is initially locked. Get that cash to get more abilities and the battle system should become much more interesting,

I'm just starting chapter 5 and I'm loving the game so far. So much to do and diges...however, I feel somewhat guilty spending so much time on this game with so many other great titles already released for ps4 this year.

I haven't gotten to some of the mini games mentioned here and I'm already getting the urge to stick to the main question line so I can experience resident evil, gravity rush, ni-oh, and tale of berseria....

I've invested a decent amount into Rush and Brawler, probably around 10 million yen in each? Doesn't seem like the combat is gonna get that much better for me. Also I dislike how during some of the longer combat sequences, the game doesn't simply regent you're health after checkpoints. Kinda annoying that it will when you die, so if you don't have curative you're better off dying and reloading the checkpoint.

He wasn't a main character. Heck, he wasn't even a main villain. He got so popular that his role continuously got bigger till he finally got that Deuteragonist role. He's the definition of a breakout character.

With a good framerate, Dead Souls could be liked more.
Dead Souls really brought out Majima's character, the localization team went to town with that game <3

Laughed for a good 5mins whilst doing a
Bed Of Styx
tournament.

So I'm unlocking the tournaments and playing away, facing off against a load of different bad people who have been imprisoned and currently at Rank D/C. I do one of the latest tournaments and again, fight different bad people and then BOOM - FINAL ROUND - DEMON BEAR!

Laughed out loud for a good 5 mins at that one. Obviously fighting bears is nothing unusual in Yakuza but it's just the way it caught me by surprise lol :p

The combat does get better for Kiryu, but Majima is something else. When you get to his chapter, you'll probably find that much more fun than Kiryu's styles. But yeah, it's mostly a beat 'em up so if you find that boring, a chunk of this game won't be for you. Thankfully, there is a lot of story and substories and a lot of minigames to indulge in so you should be able to enjoy a lot of it, and some of them even have their own storylines, like the Cabaret Club which is pretty fun, so you can enjoy that while also getting some story at the same time.

the mission where you have to buy the magazine for the little kid.

Why the fuck is everyone so fucking nosy lmao

Yeah that one's great lol. By the by, I found the best way to upgrade Kiryu's properties without just wandering around for nothing. I'm currently beating up a good amount of Mr Shakedown as Majima, and switch to Kiryu pretty often. I haven't had "Trouble" in the Media area since doing that, so I can just collect, upgrade all the buildings and go back to Majima. No lackeys to go beat up to keep the Collecting going.

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?
Whew, finished Majima's first caberet battle, enough to unlock all the abilities for gangster style fighting, all I need. Time to continue w/ the story.

Just finished chapter 6. Loved it. A lot of great moments there.
Gotta admit, I really like how Kuze and Awano come across. The music that builds up and plays right before your second fight with Kuze was freaking awesome. I love that slow motion moment just as you see his title show up. Really just pumps you up for the fight. That confrontation with Awano was pretty damn good too, followed by the scene with him and Nishiki.

Have to say, I'm enjoying this game so much more than I did with Yakuza 5. It could be because of the different combat styles, it could also be that everything moves at a pretty fast pace, but either way, I am really loving this game so far and I'm really digging the story to boot.

Ch 7, here we go!

So, the card system in this game is essentially a pornography recommendation service, right? Did the developer have to secure the rights for each of these JAV actresses to use their real names/likenesses? I love Japanese video games.

Oh, so they're all current adult actresses? I was assuming they were from 1980's JAVs, though I wondered why the videos were so high-res. Kind of wish they had used girls from the time period, for authenticity's sake.

Basically when a new Yakuza game comes out they arrange a contest where Japanese porn stars line up, then people vote who of those contestants can appear in the game.

Yeah.

I'm pretty sure that the CPU just cheats on the club battles, I didn't even seat my first customer and they already 1/2 of the special bar and making tons of money....

I've been walking around town but I still get into fights with random pricks. Is there no way to avoid random encounters anymore?

Also, is there no auto-power-up option? I hate spending points in sub menus. I really appreciated that feature in 5.

True.

The Mars club's fever bar was practically filling up incredibly fast as soon as the battle starts, that and their money bar is extremely quick to rise too. They threw 3 of their fever attacks which cause 2 of my customers to leave before I could even get my first quarter filled. Very unfair.

It would be really weird if Yakuza 1's story had this game's money system.

"We gotta find the 10 billion dollars!"
"Pfft. I make that much in an hour."

For those of you who want to play as Majima again after you finish 0...

Good News: You get to play as him in Yakuza: Dead Souls.

Bad News: It's Yakuza: Dead Souls.

Still trapped on chapter 6. There's so much to do!

Also, any tips for the final pocket circuit race? My car keeps flying off at the first turn (I've used the KHHSUBS guide and a random gamefaqs one I found).

That sounds a bit...demeaning? But I guess getting in a Yakuza game is probably good for their brand and bank account.

10 million is what, the first tier of abilities ?

Trust me, you haven't unlocked anything.

And the battles seems the fall on the side of the first one that launches an special. You basically can ride on the momentum for the rest of the match.

I finished last night ending chapter 5. I have been playing all day, I have made absolutely no progress on chapter 6.

I'm so engrossed in everything else that I've not even bothered with the story which is also apparently one of the strongest in the series. It's the complete game. I've been collecting cards while waiting for money to come in from properties, which I then spend on more properties and collect cards while I'm waiting, and so on.

And you're saying the hostess club is even better? I'm at 25 hours going on 80, evidently. For reference, the only other Yakuza game I've played was 4, which was around 40-45 hours and I at least tried to clear out the bulk of the hostess minigame for that.

I started this up. I'm only on Majima's first chapter, but this already feels way better than Yakuza 4 or 5 (the only other two I played) and I already liked those. I can't put my finger on why, though.

personally, i think it's the 60 fps and 1080p. the clarity and smoothness really help during combat and traversing the city.

How do they rip off their shirts so majestically? One of the guys had a full suit and neck tie and bam it all came off in one fluid movement to reveal his back tattoo, lol.

Yeah.

actually correction, any lady in japan could audition, but as each entry went by, more and more jav actresses were auditioned. but back in the day the hostesses were just random ladies.

So glad its getting some recognition. I think its always had decent reviews, but it was never backed up by any real coverage in the mainstream media. Now we have streamers and let's plays and GIFs, and people are enjoying the game, that's great.
we live in an exciting time for yakuza.

Awano knew Kiryu would go to the club if he managed to beat Kuze. Kuze was out for blood so either Kiryu would be dead in the sewers or he would be at the club. At the time, it was right after Kuze lost the first fight so he was out for revenge.

Regarding the bluff, luce already explained but it's also good to remember that it isn't (or shouldn't be) easy to station dozens of men fully armed anywhere in Japan. While this does happen on occasion throughout the series, it's something completely abnormal.

And the whole Empty Lot case was supposed to be one big secret, armed men would draw too much attention. The method Awano tried to use against Kiryu fits him because he's a threat specialist and it's a minimum effort of his part.

Kuze untying Tachibana was not an act of kindness. He just realized that Tachibana was tougher than what he gave credit for and that the torture they were performing would get them nowhere. Kuze would probably think of another way of making Tachibana talk if that scene continued.
i felt
Kuze
got the short end of stick both instances:
one where his pinky got cut off. and second, when he was untying Tachibana. i think Kuze was just doing what he was ordered to do. tell Kiryu to hand himself in to the cops and getting the information for the Lot through interrogation. i don't think Kuze wanted to kill him but once he died Kiryu walk in and then took his anger out on Kuze. i really felt for Kuze and thought he was legit by the end.
