Yakuza 0 |OT| Yes, you can start with this one!

My first Money Battle. I didn't know what the hell was going on at first. The smoov jazz of the Business UI puts me in a chill vibe that was not ready for button mashing.

Finished the game tonight and I absolutely loved it. So much focus was put into Majima and it worked really worked out great at the end.

I need Kiwami ASAP.

Just realized a bunch of the game's NPCs are based on Japanese porn stars (JAV), not just hostesses, going off the card book. For example the bowling alley/chicken girl is Emri Okazaki. Now I understand what the hell Mr. Labido is talking about.

Spoilers up to and including chapter 16:
There is a trophy for
delivering cold takoyaki to Makoto
but I didn't know this until afterwards. Rewarding doing something badly more than doing something well was bad. But then in chapter 16
there was another section about delivering takoyaki to Makoto before it gets cold. So I waited for it to get cold thinking there was a second opportunity for it...but no, Makoto was gone.

It *is* a bit weird to have them pop up so frequently in substories, seeing as how the previous games' substories had lots of regular, average looking women just like the dudes and now everyone's a model-type character. They all look decidedly not-80's too, all the way down to their modern hairstyles.

Pretty much the best collection of JAV stars in any Yakuza game though, so I'm not complaining.

On another note, did some fishing for one of the substories as Majima. Got the stuff I need, now what about all the other sea-creatures I captured? Can I just sell them, or do they have some other use?

I really like Oda so far. He reminds me a lot of Akiyama, but he's a little more arch, and I love it when he cuts the bullshit and starts throwing unveiled threats around. And those co-op Heat moves!

Plus it feels so unusual having a main character actually dwarf Kiryu. Oda must be like 6'4" or something :p

After the character development on characters who will be returning in kiwami by zero makes kiwami story more impactful. Still want yakuza 2 remake though, the littles teases they made in zero were great. Just bought the last property in the estate world. Soon to fight the last king.

Cabaret club management is awesome. I finally understand it somewhat, all emoji and gestures etc. I beat 2 of the rivals, though the differences have been minimal so far.

But I look at mens financial status and at their smileys, extend or not. And I put the platinum on the wealthy long session dudes as much as possible.

Erranda is a beast btw. She's only silver but she's been the top earner a lot.

This is still a harsh game for those of us new to the series. Certainly one of the most RTFM games I can remember for quite some time. I've been reading through my notebook now, which does a good job, but I have pumped hours into the game, without even realising that you can equip weapons - WTF? The game doesn't seem to ever tell you this.

But you have a slot in the equipment section where you can only select weapons. That alone gives it away.

[End of Chapter 14]

i can't believe they're still pulling twists and turns this late in the story. This is a genuinely mature video game plot. Not like TLOU, this story respects the player entirely. It's not trying too hard to be that way, it just is, naturally. Really impressive

Also is there somewhere I can see a clan/hierarchy family tree? Wit the introduction of the
third parties
it's getting a little complicated.

Previous games in the Yakuza series actually had a relation chart which showed at whatever point of the story you were, who was who and what role they had with each other, important traits and what organization they belonged to. It was surprisingly detailed and it is one of the "hidden features" of the games.

Don't know if it's here though, haven't checked.
Edit: there is. Check the notebook/help option in the options menu.

I literally just started playing the game, I'm only in Chapter 1, and learned "Rush"

It seems to be a very nimble style. Is there no way to attack cancel, in order to dodge attacks? All enemies, including
the boss with the knife
seem predicated on you sitting there waiting to dodge...as opposed to attacking and attack cancelling and dodging immediately.

I just took a look in the notebook and it helped me out, thanks anyway.

Chapter 10 -
Tojo HQ!!

God, I missed this place. So many asses and beatdowns were handed in these hallowed halls

Sure, but I just presumed they added extra weight to your attacks or something, much in the same way armour seems scored. While I agree I am a dumbass, it could perhaps be a little more explain-y.

Still love the game though.

Sleep time over. Awake now for a full day Sunday of Yakuza. Should bring me to over 50 hours. Today will mostly consist of the telephone hookups. I've already completed Riku and Asuka (I know that moots the other 2 women so I know to hang up of they say their names). 5 women to go.

After that, maybe look for all the phone cards in Kamurocho.

Can anyone help on chapter 9, I've got to find a place to lie low, and the game doesn't give any hints. I've scoured the net but the only answer is go to the old hideout, I can't remember where that is though.

Go to the Kazama Family Office, right in front of Serena the bar.

Mr Shakedown + Slime Gun = lol

Love that even these guys even have a storyline of sorts.
And they're all dumb =D

Worst thing is going to fight him with loads of money and then forgetting I still have the security wallet equipped.

One thing I don't understand is the naming conventions, I thought that in general in Japan you would put the last name first and that makes sense everyone calls Kiryu, Kiryu, but on past cards he refers to himself as Kazzy and before I played the game I would have thought that was his name. Some other characters it seems don't follow this convention Daisuke Kuze for insistence, I've heard Daisuke as first name plenty of times and everyone calls him Kuze and it's hard to believe that everyone is on a first name basis with the muscle of the Dojima family

Spent 20min this morning explaining to my girlfriend what happened in Yakuza after she went to bed.... and I realized this is just the "men's version" of soap operas.

By the way, I forgot to mention this yesterday, but did anyone else laugh out loud at the end of chapter 6
when Kiryu just casually steals Nishiki's car and drives off after their very emotional argument.
That shit nearly broke me and I'm not sure that was the intended reaction, lol.

Thanos acquires the fully powered Infinity Gauntlet in The Avengers: Infinity War, but loses when all the superheroes team up together to stop him.
I started this up. I'm only on Majima's first chapter, but this already feels way better than Yakuza 4 or 5 (the only other two I played) and I already liked those. I can't put my finger on why, though.

Love this game but damn...I could do without the substories, they really fuck up the flow of the game.

I know I could skip them but Im a bit OCD when a game throws side quests at me, and this game feels like every few steps you take is a new side quest.
