I'm loving this game so far. Im on chapter seven and starteded the whole
caberia
stuff. I just lost to 245million yen to Mr shakedown, my morale is crushed I need a break ive been playing all day. So im guess an enemy that has a green bar, it goes from green, to yellow, then red? So I have to drain his bar 3 times?

Two words : Slime Gun. Get 2 or 3 of those and mr shakedown is a joke.

Rewatching some cut scenes on Youtube and man, more games need to get Yakuza style pre fight intros since those are hype as hell. IIRC, those started with 3 but the 0 Intros are leagues above 3, 4 and 5. Seen a few from Ishin and those look just as great as 0's....didn't watch all those since I still want to play it and not spoil myself. Favorite ones from 0 are Kiryu vs
Shibusawa, Kuze(4th Fight)
and Majima Vs
Lao Gui
. Sucked that not all the bosses got them like
Nishitani, Awano, Sera, Nishiki, etc
.

Speaking of punches......how about a double? :D

After finishing this game all I have to say is that damn this is one of my favorite stories I have ever experienced across all mediums, yeah this is my first Yakuza games and now I'm definitely a fan of the series.

Beat it first try with slugger, nunchuck swings and the wide swing are good for beating multiple people.

Actually the nunchuck swings are good against pretty much anyone who blocks or sways a ton, once you push them into a corner.

The problem for me is not with taking on multiple people, but missing one who runs over and starts wailing on your boy while you're facing the other direction. It's like herding cats. No matter whether I use Slugger or Breaker, I always seem to miss one on that damn bridge mission.

The substory with the guy in the jacket trying to cross the bridge is pissing me off so bad. Like, seriously, this shit is ridiculous.

I couldn't do it until I unlocked Breaker Style. Then I used Slugger for the first 2 groups and then the Breaker move where Goro is spinning to handle the third.

I found Slugger works well with that Jacket mission then again I barely had a problem with that one and Kiryu's version
(with Miracle)
, but funny thing about Breaker.

I did that substory with Majima and the drug test, and this was before I unlocked breaker, HOWEVER that didn't stop the game from switching me over to the style when it came to second random style fight of the substory. Didn't switch me back before I finished it and so I decided to stay on Breaker until I properly unlocked it later (which wasn't long after, actually) mainly for racking up CPs on style usage.

I think I did something I didn't want to do...

I got the fourth style and upgraded it a little, but now my heat gauge doesn't go up at all unless I take something for it. Is that expected?

Weird. Maybe you have equipped one item that doesn't allow your heat to go up ?

No upgrade should make it more difficult, that's for sure.

just finished. fantastic game. I wish I'd been, like, four chapters shorter, but I'm glad I saw it through to the end. if the interactions are funny (are they?), I might go finish up the other four billionaires and clubs.

Can someone explain equipped weapons to me? I've beaten the story and at 55 hrs and still don't understand what these do. I've had Sunburst equipped on Kiryu for basically the entire game, but he never has a sword and it's durability never goes down.

Through the story I was too distracted by the momentum, and I sort of presumed that they were just adding to stats, and whether it was a sword or gun or whatever didn't matter...but now that I'm looking at them more it seems like they're meant to be utilized in some manner besides just equipping and forgetting.

Press down on the d-pad while in combat.

To use an equipped weapon in combat press down on the D-pad (and then press it again to put the weapon away).

I'm going to echo what I'm sure has been said numerous times but, this is one of the few games I've played in my life that has genuinely pulled laughs out of me. Between the "Be My Boyfriend" and "Toilet Talk" substories alone, I'm left without breath.

Oh no. What have I been doing.

EDIT: Also, thanks for the help. :)
Also know that you should be utilizing a bunch of weapons with Majima as you can get a LOT of weaponry with him through the Dragon and Tiger shop.

Including "sturdy" versions of weapons that have relatively low damage but have infinite durability so you can keep using them.

Yep. It's all coming together now. This is why I relied on Slugger so heavily throughout the game.

have the Yakuza stories / production values always been this good, or was there a significant leap at some point? After 0, I kind of want to check out the rest of the series, but it's a daunting prospect

Well kinda, yeah.

Yakuza 1 and Yakuza 2 had the most "grounded" plot of all of them and IMO were the best ones in regards to story.

Yakuza 3 went in completely new directions with the plot, with a lot of the stuff working, and some of it not. Though it still has the best final boss fight of the series IMO but people have different preferences on that (still playing through Ishin, which is said to have a great one too)

Yakuza 4 introduces 3 new protagonists and allows us to play with 4 separate characters for the first time with each character getting their own chapter where we are introduced to them, learn how to play as them and see their side of the story. It all comes together in the finale. Yakuza 4 is a legitimately fantastic game and because you have protagonists outside of the Yakuza, you get a much broader story and a much more different tone then you usually get. (Akiyama's chapter feels straight up Noir at times)

Yakuza 5 refines the multiple protagonist concept of 5 by also introducing new cities and comletely new jobs/side-missions for each character. It's a great game but story wise, it's INCREDIBLY long and incredibly padded and the story just kinda falls flat tbh. If you treat each individual chapter as it's own game, then you'll have a LOT more fun IMO.

Now my advice would be to wait for Kiwami, a remake of Yakuza 1, which is coming out this summer. Once you're done with that, you can see if you want to play Yakuza 2. Regardless of whether you do or don't, you can then play through the next 3 Yakuza games (IF YOU WANT)

Then move on to Yakuza 6 which is coming Early 2018. Alternatively, you can simply play Kiwami and then move onto Yakuza 6 once it drops. This is a completely viable option as I assure you, you won't be lost story wise. The games are mainly stand alone stories and even then, the game has a recap option to catch you up.

that's fucking it

I give up

Fuck these Rush training 'classes'. Force me to dodge this fast punching motherfucker in this god damn tiny ass circle of people where the description says 'don't get knocked down' but even a single fucking hit is a failure. Fuck this. I'm not giving them more of my money.

Which minigames are the biggest pain if you were to go for 100% completion? I'd like to get 100% and it seems like a good idea to get the worst of it out of the way first.

I'm guessing catfight would be one of them.

Mahjong, fishing, getting all the weapons and gear in Dragon & Tiger shop for Majima.

Cat fight for sure. That and the Outrun girl in the arcade for me because I'm terrible at it.

Which one are you stuck at? If it's the 3rd one you can just turtle in a corner and block (hold L1) the entire time.

Well if you feel like trying it again, try and dodge before he gets close or as he goes to attack and do so in a big circle keeping him at the opposite side whenever possible, trying to dodge incoming punches just isn't reliable. I was having trouble until trying that and after it I beat the rest on my first attempt.

Just keep your distance and just behind him when he starts to attack. That's what I did anyway.

I've tried this. 10 times. The issue is the circle is too small for me and the camera doesn't help when people are this close. It's a constant struggle to try and get behind him when I also have to fight the camera. Hopefully the person after this one isn't as fast.

Probably come up already, but is there some trick to getting a strike on the bowling mini game? I've been trying to do this "Turkey" event shit for the past week now, but the best I've managed is 2 strikes in a row one time.

Nearly every other mini game has been easy enough to master, but I'm not getting this one at all.
Choose lightest/red ball
Take the X to the farthest right
Aim at the center pin
Go for 95 or above power
Tap right on the dpad to spin if necessary

I know that it's been said, but DAMN if the cabaret mini-game isn't a lot more fun than the real estate stuff. I completely cleaned out Kiryu's quests before moving forward with the story, and I'm glad I did, because I would have found it really difficult to juggle flipping between them after realizing how passive real estate is in comparison.

I really hate these kinds of challenges, because I feel like I'm genetically destined to choke in any "last for X minutes" kind of thing. I still have nightmares about failing the 15 Minute Melee in Super Smash Bros. Melee at about 14 minutes 53 or something :p

Sure enough, on the first Rush training mission I failed instantly, then the next time I failed at like 57 seconds, then the next time I failed instantly again. The fact that you have to button through so much text to be able to retry just makes it infuriating. Then someone in this thread recommended not dodging at all, and instead just sprinting around the outside of the circle when you see the dude coming. Worked like a charm. Don't dodge, don't lock on, just sprint around the perimeter. Dodging in Rush style seems easy, but the dodges are so short I think you end up dodging too early and running out of i-frames before the attack has actually hit you. By running away you make the enemy's attacks miss by a mile, so you don't even have to worry. Maybe throw in a quick L1 bob and weave if it still seems like they're getting too close.

Be honest with me YakuzaGAF. How many of you thought the bat tattoo was
a baseball bat
and not
an animal
?

30 pages are luce's posts.

30 pages are mine, yours and Irish helping people.

40 pages are people talking about the story.

And the last 40 pages are people with Charismatic Autobiography =D
LMAO. Let's have a look at the wall of shame honor.

Any pro tips for outrun?

Think I. Might just have let the electronic King have his 10%

Don't worry about it, you'll still get to 100% without beating him at Outrun. I don't know if I'm just terrible at the arcade games, but the Electronics King's challenge seems so much harder than any of the other Five Billionaire's challenges. 5,000,000 in Outrun compared to scoring over 80 in Karaoke or getting a date at the telephone club is crazy.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhh just found out who the man with the bat tatoo iis
Heh, so did I, just some half hour ago :)

Done most of the minigames, except the casino stuff and pool for some reason. Should do pool next so I get that video of the pool girl which is the only video I have left. Anyone know what to do to get it? Just beat all the pool stuff in the various difficulties?

Heh, I had no problems with the Outrun challenge, did it on the first try, but failed at the telephone club challenge (which was also the very first time I played the telephone minigame).

The hardest arcade game for me was Fantasy Zone. Getting those 100,000 points for the CP took me about 10 tries.
