85 hours later at a 75% completion rate, I finally finished 0. I think I can sum up all my thoughts with Kazuma's thoughts on the Pocket Circuit subtory saga below.
As a newcomer to this series, I am simply amazed having never played this game before, and I'm glad GAF was there to recommend this absolute gem of a game for me. I was never a fan of beat-em ups but I adore the simple yet satisfying combat of the game, its silly yet surprisingly emotional and occasionally heartwarming substories, and the main story itself, which is genuinely one of the better examples of a story I've seen in a video game. But if anything, this game is very much human. Like, you do end up empathising with the characters thanks to the superb writing, and even most of the villains were sympathetic and you end up respecting their ideals. There's almost no cynicism or bad-natured jabs at any target in particular, and there's this innocence to the game that's just so charming.
If I have any gripes with this game,
I LOVED the bromance between Kiryu and Nishiki, it really feels like those two have a genuine friendship between them.
I could go on and on, how the music is so good even for tracks you rarely hear in the game, how all the food looks so good, how surprisingly fun dressing up and running a cabaret club is, or even guilty pleasures like collecting telephone cards and going to Gandhara, the list just goes on.
I'm just happy to say I now consider myself a fan of the series and I'm eagerly awaiting Kiwami's release.
On a side note, can anyone photoshop the "Yakuza Supporter" banner onto my avatar?

If I have any gripes with this game,
it's how overly melodramatic the scenes with Makoto can be. Her backstory is so sadistically cruel you'd half expect to hear her say her dog and cat and goldfish all died horribly as well. It's ridiculous. Although, my favourite scenes with her are the quieter moments like both takoyaki scenes. Also, Nishitani's death scene is drawn out for way too long.
