I could think up of various reasons. Mind you we've had threads for Yakuza 3,4 and dead souls on GAF and they had activity. I find it funny that such a big event gave much more awareness to the series than before, but am glad for it too.

But if it does, then it might still be worth it as they haven't had to bother with disc manufacturing and distribution.

Hell, just being on the stage at PSX is more exposure than 3 or 4 got at all that I can remember.

TheSw1tcher (Two Best Friends) did a playthrough of Yakuza 4 last year which had a lot of views (over 700,000+ views total), ssohpkc also did a playthrough of Yakuza: Dead Souls when it came out which also did pretty good view-wise iirc, hopefully that helped introduce new people to the series.

Probably re-securing the rights for the hollywood cast they had for the first game might require more money than the game might be worth.

Sorry no, game development does not work like that.

It is a ton of work to get said text, put it into the game then go through the long pain in the ass process of making sure everything is tested and works requiring long hours from both the development staff and QA team that has to run through everything to make sure that all localized content is implemented correctly, on top of not having broken anything.

You dont just magically copy and paste text into a game then press a button where it is done in an instant.

If it was a "profitable endeavor" they would have done it by now. Which they have not on top of look at how long it took them to cave in and to 5, which seriously still is a miracle.

They already lost the momentum for doing 1 & 2 HD. Only reason why Im sure they are doing 5 is to close out the series for the West, seeing how instead of a 6 they are doing a prequel. From there who knows what direction they might go domestically here in Japan.

There is a chance that they might release Ishin now that SEGA JP has had a good long enough chance to see how PS4 sales are and that folks do want new games on it. But that will also depend on how 5 does. Since if after all that noise people made about wanting 5 and it sells poorly you can rest assure that SEGA is not going to bring out another Yakuza game in the West. As these titles have got to be insanely expensive to localize due to all the work involved. Which is why stated many times its amazing that the series went as far as 4.

Doubt that they would even bother with dubbing the first one if the slim chance they do the HD collection pops up and go with the JP voices w/ subtitles. Either way dub or no dub will require a full reworking, even more so with a dub version as the JP HD version had no such "dub" track therefore all the animations and such are not made to match the English lines. They would most def just leave the first one in the JP language a lot less work that way and do not have to resecure rights for the Eng voice actors.

Just watched the Y5 announcement trailer again and seriosuly, how can anyone not want this game after watching that?
It's a shame that in this industry a handfull of IPs is getting most of the pie.

Atlus is busy with their own mess really. Generally most companies these days do not have the largest localization staff outside of places like Square Enix. Its more that they outsource to third-parties who fulfill contracts for them, rather than in house.

No idea seeing how so called "gamers" these days have some entitled ass mentality that everything needs to be ported to the PS4 now and they want to bitch and whine about how hooking up their PS3 is too much trouble or that they cant go back to playing games on one.

the whole vibe from PSX was that Sony is bringing it here out of love for the fans, and if the translation costs Sony 50 000$ they probably said put that into PR/Marketing costs and be done with it and expect no revenues.

Its only if after Zero comes out that then the HD collection for 1&2 would make sense, along with attempting to get a digital version of 3 out. Big problem being though is that those other 2 titles are on the PS3 where Zero also includes the PS4, so the PR department will have to figure out a way to get folks to understand that the reason why the other versions are not also on the PS4.

I think that until they fix all the other PSN account related issues AKA FIFA dont think they want to add gifting, but do agree with you. Would be an excellent addition. But until they actually get their shit straight with online security am kinda glad they do not have that.

If I was Sony, I would be paying to make sure that 6 isn't cross-gen. PS4 isn't doing well over there, so Sega can't take the risk. But if Sony made up the difference, it could spark some PS4 sales at least.

Amazon.com sells some PSN digital games and I think I've seen some PS2 classics on there too like Fire Pro Wrestling and Shinobi, but I'd need to check later to confirm.
Basically you buy the code from Amazon and then you can gift it to someone on GAF.
or make a giveaway using ModBot.

I would imagine 6 if they do make it wont be cross gen. Since all it does is limit the sales on both systems and causes more overall work for the team to be split like that. Though at the same time its good practice for them to get used to working with the PS4 so that the next title they can do the best possible job to take full advantage of what the system has to offer allowing for more elaborate game design. Personally I always found it pretty impressive with what they did back from the PS2 and on the PSP.

If there is one game that needs a HD release its the black panther series since at least 1 was fucking fantastic 2 not as much, since they messed with lots of things including the MCs VA but still a good game regardless.

But I swear the first game had some INTENSE fighting due to how they used the camera angles. They kinda fucked it up with the 2nd one though.

Yes 0 is also PS3 / PS4.

Lots of high profile Japanese actors are in the game and its been increasing with each title too.

3 had all new assets with the Okinawa part and its pretty well done, since Ive been there before and that 国際通り (international street) or whatever they call it translated looked pretty spot on. 4 had other new stuff added also. Though I think they toned down the blood effects from 3 to 4. Know 5 most def it was toned down, with the whole facial bruising thing. 3 was by far the most "graphic" so to speak with that.
