Real talk, that moment where kiryu faces off against akiyama and cop man (I forgot his name) and beats the shit out of then both was so hype

glad to hear yakuza 5 is getting translated. i've only played one and some of 2 but i intend to get through the whole series, it does a lot of things i like.

Akiyama is the best. Of all the non-Kiryu characters they've introduced dude is by far my favorite. Hell I'd probably buy a spin-off that was centered around him. Also Speed Star is the best battle theme in the series that's not Funk Goes On.

I also liked the newbie cop of Yakuza 4 :p
All of the stories of that game were awesome anyways.... and how all of them fused together near the end was omg, GTA 5 tried to copy this ;)

So apparently they used a new engine for this game.

Can someone whose played the JP version confirm whether the game now renders at 720p native ? All the previous PS3 Yakuza games are sub HD and very blurry.

WTF ... I want it.

He's my favourite too, his style is amazing. Tanimura was overpowered in my opinion due to its ability to dodge everything while Saejima is a slow tank, I had some real problem to play with him.

Dude, I got goosebumps when that happened. Don't fuck with Kazuma.

"So, you ready for me? Then step the fuck up, it's time to die!"

This. Is. The. Best. Thing. EVER.

Oh come on!
With a digital only release, they know that only those who are interested in the saga will buy it, and those interested in it are probably fine with this.

Just because its a "digital release" does not magically make the localization costs go away. And Im not talking about just translations, that is part of the whole process that goes into game localization.

Just be happy you people are getting 5 and if you ever want the slightest chance of seeing anything else, pray that it does a lot better than previous games in the series.

I know, but that doesn't really have anything to do with what I said.

They know very well that Yakuza 5 in the west won't make a million sales, and those who will buy it are die hard fans. Those fans are the same that will almost assuredly buy Ishin, regardless of a naked fight between two men. If they can afford to localize Yakuza 5 they probably can afford to localize Ishin, with Sony's help too.

I can confirm that its running at 720p native for Yakuza 5 (and Ishin, and probably 0).

I'm not sure if its a new engine or they just improved the old engine but there are a couple of odd little tweaks the game gets including: Kiryu gets a much better walking up/down stairs animation in Yakuza 5 (not quite as great as the Eurphoria engine and GTA IV/V but a darn site better than before).

Random encounters almost have no load times now, (Ishin further improved that)

and most annoyingly you can't just swat people aside when free roaming. Pedestrians seem routed to the ground and coliding them sometimes feels like you've run into a brick wall which is damn annoying.

Nice :)

I remember going from Yakuza 1 to 2 was that the battles no longer needed to load a separate area, the game would set up the 'arena' with pedestrians running around and forming a circle and the battle would happen in real-time. That blew my mind back in the day.

Yakuza 4 was very good with the controls and mechanics, but the visuals were extremely blurry. It was very jarring, because the cut-scenes seemed to utilize a higher resolution, but as soon as you'd go back in-game, everything would be 10X blurrier all of a sudden.

Yeah, the battles from 3 and up were like a revelution at the time. I'm just glad the HD releases of 1 and 2 drastically reduced the load times, I remember them being pretty bad on the PS2!

I had the same issue re: blurryness on the PS3 era games before 5. Its a pity as I love the games, but the blurryness does bother me slightly. Not enough to make me stop playing the games, but enough for me to wish for either a PC or PS4 port of those games so that I can play them in a better resolution.

Does anybody have a complete list of all the Club Sega games in this?

Taiko no Tatsujin (Namco drum game)
Virtua Fighter 2
Pre-Circle (Purikuru) - basically a photography booth where you strike different poses
Shoot em up game (I forget if this was like Boxilicious or not, its been a while!)
UFO catcher

Its worth noting the UFO Catcher changes from city to city. Club Sega in Kamuracho is the same as its always been, but Sotenburi and Fukuoka get different crain games where you can win a Miku (Project Diva) figure. You need to line up a "key" to go through a hole in the center of the platform perfectly to tip the platform, so the toy slides off the platform. Its a pain in the ass.
There are also different toys in different cities to win, and finally a broader range of figures to win, including NiGHTS into Dreams, Bonanza Bros etc.

VF2 has different versions of the cab in different cities, and the cabs are also set to different difficulties. No matter, as you can just spam one of Jefferies moves to clear arcade mode with little hassle!

Has Outrun ever been in one?

It's been a week and I'm still so happy that the game is coming to Europe. I can't wait!

The fact that's it's (probably) going to be in English only seems to be a big turn off in France though (most French people don't speak English at all). I believe that's one of the reasons why the series never took off in Europe.

it will be PSN only anyway. It won't sell well. Let's face it. All we can do it do our part, buy it for ouselves, promote it around us. And most of all : enjoy it

I will enjoy it for sure!

And you're right, it won't sell well. It's a PS3 games and PS3 games don't sell anymore.

Thats awesome! While I'm certainly not in need of another way to play Virtua Fighter 2, I love that kind of detail replicating arcades that use different settings.

Yeah I agree Akiyama is such a baller. Suave, cool, generous, good looking and very interesting character. 4 was really amazing. First the brand new and good Akiyama arc. Then Saejima, was very unsetting because of how big and tanky he felt and his moves were but his story really touched me. I really enjoyed Tanimura too. I didn't care much for his really pretty face but I loved his fighting moves and I like the very big emphasis on immagration, a dark and taboo subject in most japanese media.

And of course final act here comes god of war Kiryu, master of ass kicking, messiah of head smashing and lord of bike crashing in thug faces.

Damn, I'm booting 4 again now. Hope 5 bring as much quality in the diversity of its stories and gameplay.

Funny, my wife doesn't like Akiyama one bit. She did not mind him until one of his side-missions, the one in which
a mother with her son is asking for a loan after leaving her violent husband (this one). He basically asks her to consider prostitution of fuck off. All of that to prove a point to a guy he is actually helping that had no real life-problems, was an incompetent and had way easier "tests". He also helps Saejima's sister basically because she is hot, by making her pass a test that involved essentially flirting with her, which would be OK and even funny (since his character is kind of a womanizer) if it weren't because of that substory, where he was a tool
. I was left with no arguments to defend him, to be honest.

But, after all, that's Yakuza for you. I mean, you should not take the characters actions too seriously, and my wife has been able to become a fan of the series because she just did that (after all, let's face it, the game portrays a sexist picture very often)... except with Akiyama. It kind of rubbed on me, so Akiyama is my least favorite character of Yakuza 4 (but I don't hate him like she does xD)

Akiyama's neat, but Kiryu remains my favorite. No one can top Kiryu for me. 2nd being Saejima. His story hit me the hardest.

He also laughed at Hana for her thinking anybody out there would want to rape her.

I still kinda like him...

Yeah I almost forgot that. He was indeed a tool in this but like you said, it's a japanese game and japanese is a pretty mysoginic culture anyway. It's hardly defendable but you have to keep this in your mind. it's a bit shocking to us but you shouldn't take it too seriously indeed.

I took that as no one would be able to because as it turns out later, she can kick ass.
When I first heard the line, it rubbed me the complete wrong way too, but yeah, after I saw the cutscene in which she kicks everyone's ass I realized what he most likely meant.

It's unfortunate that they laid out the sequence of events that way.

Well, it's obvious they care for each other very much, so regardless it was just a joke.

Doesn't Kiriyu
fight a Tiger or Lion in Yakuza 5?
or am i thinking of something else?

You fight two tigers in Yakuza 2. He's already done that shit. Rifle butting a bear in the balls though, that's new.
Tigers in Y2 , lion in Y3 if my memory is right.

Massage parlors are not prostitution, also it was more of a " just where are you ready to go in order to save what you want ? "
And yes i know about soap hotels, but i believe that's not the point of this scene.
