Yakuza Community Thread - FEEL THE HEAT!

Thanks. In relation to Harukas missing sub story, as mentioned earlier, it was there outside the studio in Kamurocho, but I traveled to Osaka to finish up there, when I came back the sub story "?" wasn't there and hasn't been since.

Anyway, I've just progressed the main characters to the point of no return as I've done all I can be bothered bar a few trophies like playing Pachinko games 3 times each and the hostess stuff as so far I've put ose to 110hrs on my first play through. I'm hoping Zero arrives in the mail tomorrow as I ordered it last Monday.

If you aren't playing the game in Premium Adventure mode (which unlocks after the game is complete) I'd recommend giving that a try to get the last Haruka side story. As that mode lets you free roam and do anything you missed on your main playthrough. That's probably your best bet now I think.

Yeah, I'll give that a shot, credits are rolling now. I found the end a bit of a mess and the time between leaving New Serena (my last save) and finishing the game dragged on. I wanted a mission chapter save to pop up so I could finish it tomorrow but there was nothing. Boy did it drag.

I enjoyed most of the game, some of the story was great but I rate 4 higher except for the graphics/engine which I thought was awesome. It really looked fantastic, shame about the frame hits but still, it's on 2006 hardware.

Yeah, that seems to be the general consensus on the game. I love the ending myself bar the choice of final boss, the actual gameplay was brilliant in that fight, but the choice was a bit weak. Still, 0 doesn't drag like that, its far better designed in that respect so I hope you really enjoy it :)

so close! i can feel Kiwami around the corner =)

I love how you pop up in Yakuza threads getting slightly more excited with each post! I'm hoping it'll be a decent couple of weeks for the series - Satuday 26th is when the Yakuza event is happening in Japan, while I refuse to get my hopes up too much I am hoping for some sort of concrete announcement (be it sequel, remake, remaster, PC port) and then Kiwami the week after. Plus, while not directly Yakuza related we should finally get some Shenmue 3 news next week via Gamescom. Shenmue and Yakuza news in one week, and in the same month as a new amazing Sonic game... good times!

Folks, I started playing Yakuza 5 maybe six months ago but I fell off shortly after the first act concluded.

Are there any recaps of just the first act out there?
I don't think there are many Yakuza 5 recaps out there.

But what exactly do you mean by first act? Did you finish Kiryu's chapters and now you are playing with a different protag? If so, then don't worry about knowing Kiryu's story for now and just continue playing. You'll be able to catch up on what's happening in the story alongside the new characters.

Well if Zero arrives arrives this week I doubt that I'll be able to finish it before Kiwami arrives in the mail, we'll see.

*edit*
Just got home and Zero has arrived! Couldn't have been timed better! 😂

I'm hoping for a Shenmue 1 and 2 HD on PC or PS4
or even Vita
.

I bought Shenmue 2 on xbox back in 2004 -or whenever it was released. It was pretty good, but I was walking around in circles and didn't end up finishing it. I played a bit more this summer when I went back home, and I was really amazed at their design choices. It's still such an amazing game, and I can see how they blew their budget completely. The Voice acting and writing is EXCELLENT.

Only 10 days to go to the Yakuza announcement, I hope Nagoshi mentions something about a release for the west at the very least. Would save a lot of heartache.

That's how I felt, Y5 didn't look that great apart from the cut scenes and character models and of course Kamurocho and Osaka always look great.

You won't have that problem with Yakuza 0, it looks really great and personally I thought it was a big jump up in quality.

I played Shenmue II on the Dreamcast, the third disk is still in my opinion one of the best experiences in a game ever
all the stuff in Kowloon
. Felt like the perfect blend of the Shenmue adventure game formula paired with shady fighting tournaments and epic huge battles. I'll be replaying Shenmue 1 and 2 at Xmas this year, I'm so looking forward to doing this bit again :)

I think if we get any Yakuza announcements next week we won't get any English translation announcements just yet - I think it'll get announced at PSX this year as usual. So either way it should still be a pretty quick confirmation in terms of translations.

Definitely, was blown away from the start about everything. Kamurocho in the 80s, the attention to detail in the cut scenes (you can see the imperfections in their necks from shaving!) and most importantly the frame rate. Sadly I'm playing in 1080p in the games room because the 4K telly in the lounge is constantly in use till its too late to move the console. Still, can't complain really.

Loving the new Rush fight style, it's my preferrnstyle with Kiryu atm, just feels so fluid and satisfying especially against the first boss. I'm now up to Chapter 2 on the Real Estate Broker hunt.

1080p TV is probably better because its native? When I watch 1080p stuff on my 4k TV it doesn't look as good, but that might just be my TV.

I love that Kamurocho has so much detail everywhere and it can be easily seen in Yakuza 0 now that its got a bump up in resolution. Just walking down the street, there's so many objects, and signs and things to look at everywhere, I never get tired of it. Most other games don't have this type of detail in their games at all, it reminds me of the level of detail in The Division, but the art direction is really weird in that game, just feels like there's not much variety in that one, and everything is just trashed.

Haha me too. It might be the best game I've ever played as well. They really nailed the story telling in this one.

They are all like this in terms of concept - brawler/mafia story, but 0 was much better than the rest for me.

Yakuza 1 was great, no complaints there.
Yakuza 2 didn't really feel like a big jump up for me, but a LOT of people think this is the best one or on par with 0.
Yakuza 3 starts a little slow but the last half is pretty great.
Yakuza 4 was about the closest it got to in terms of storytelling being as good as 0.
Yakuza 5 is a decent game, but its probably too long for its own good, its probably a mixed reaction here, but most fans still like it.

Definitely play the remake, it'll be a lot of fun.

There's an announcement from the Yakuza team on the 26th August, so lets wait and see if they announce more remakes? No idea at this stage.

Arbok covered everything nicely.

Just wanted to make it clear that Yakuza Kiwami is a full on remake of Yakuza 1 (with added contents and stuff) and not a simple remaster.

Can I get a bit of advice here. I'm trying to do the telephone club minigame in Yakuza 0 but I just can't seem to 'charge' the phone dial with the right stick, it cuts off at the 5/6 mark and resets to 0. I've tried doing it quickly and slowly but it as soon as the stick hits the 22:00 position it cuts out.

I think my controller might be a bit screwy as I have replaced the DS4 sticks, though strangely I've not faced issues with any other games that requite the stick to be turned in a 360 degree motion. Just wanted to check I'm not an idiot who's missing something obvious and doing it wrong? Is there some trick to this?

Shouldn't be any trick to it, you should get it just by rotating the stick in a 360 degree method, even speed shouldn't be an issue as you can do it fast/slow and as long as you don't let go of the stick once you've "charged" it up you should be able to shoot just fine. It sounds like its an issue with the Dual Shock 4 unfortunately, as I've never had any issues with the mini game in the way you are :(

Damn. I assumed it was the controller but thought it was worth checking anyway. Bit of a ballache, I wonder if it's had an effect on other games and I just haven't noticed.

Thanks anyway.

Finally getting back into these games after platinuming 3 and 4 awhile ago. Im on dead souls, and man this is rough. Im not liking it so far. Im on part 2 and its really boring. Majima cant even make this exciting lol

Question: I'd like to platinum Kiwami to go along with my doing so in 0. In 0, I basically 100%'d it twice: once on my 1st playthrough and once on Legend. Since that was my 1st Yakuza game, I didn't mind, but I don't think I want to do the same for Kiwami (a large part of that reasoning is b/c I have 2 through 5 and want to play them too).
Is it possible rush through a playthrough of Kiwami to unlock ex-hard or do the latter stages/bosses get too difficult if you aren't leveling in a "normal" fashion? If possible, I'd rather rush through, unlock ex-hard, and then take my time on that difficulty for 100% completion.
(Of course, what I'd really rather is ex-hard selectable from the start, but...)

I didn't even bother with Dead Souls, I had heard nothing positive about it so figured I'd give it a miss.

You could probably just check the trophy requirements for completion - assuming you only have to clear the game (any difficulty) then do an EX Hard/Legend difficulty run you'll be fine rushing it through first time focusing just on the story.

Though the game works differently compared to 0 as you level up using EXP not money, which is more easily obtained through just general playing the story and some side missions (while money is most easily obtained through the main side activities and Mr Shakedown) so you really shouldn't have a problem beating any bosses. Well, maybe the penultimate one as he's a bit of a jerk, so you probably want to go weapons shopping for some guns before you tackle that fight (and bring some healing supplies as well).

100% is also fairly easy in Kiwami anyway. Its shorter than past Yakuza games due to not having a huge side mission to clear like Real Estate in 0, all the "another dream" stories in 5 etc. Only thing that will slow down your progress and completion in Kiwami is Majima's constant appearances.

Yeah, Dead Souls is actually quite alright.

The controls are unnecessarily weird at first and take time to get used to, but it's quite fun after that and the story is stupid enjoyable. I had a pretty good time with it.

It also has the best karaoke performance in the series!

Are they quite frequent?

Yes. His appearances fall into 3 categories. The first are Mr Shakedown style encounters where you see him and he starts chasing after you. You can run away from him if you want to avoid him.
He also has a tendancy to appear from many different hidden positions (trash can, sewer, leaping at you from rooftops etc.) and these can't be avoided.
Lastly, after a certain point you'll start encountering him when playing many different mini games, or just reading a certain magazine at a convenience store. Trust me, the "Majima Anywhere System" isn't just a fancy name, its damn true!

But you need to fight him especially if your going for 100% completion. Defeating Majima in all these weird scenarios has you power up your 4th fighting style (Dragon of Dojima) which starts off completely useless, and by the end of the game you'll be hilariously overpowered Tiger Dropping everything in sight! Plus if your going for 100% you'll be tasked with meeting and defeating him in all sorts of scenarios.

Majima's "Get to the Top" performance right? He single handedly makes this game way more fun for me. Well, him and Ryuuji, I just love that damn chain gun arm.

I just wanted to mention the appropriateness in Pocket Circuit Fighter's backstory being how he stopped racing because he was making kids quit, and the race against him making me say fuck it to completing all the substories and fighting amon.

You're SO CLOSE!! Just use the guide on khhsubs.com to find the best way to beat that lovable fuck.

The Amon fight with one character in particular actually used one of the cleverest game tricks that I've seen in my lifetime of videogaming.

Yeah - that's exactly it... need to unlock the hardest difficulty through a completion and there is a trophy for beating it on the hardest.

So thanks! Looks like I will try to rush through in order to take my time! :)

Yakuza 0 is easily going to be my GOTY, not that I've played much (just started Chapter 4) but the improvements over the last couple of games really make this a fantastic game and stands head and shoulders over the last 3, I've never played 1 or 2 as I didn't jump in till #3 when that got localized. I'm looking forward to experiencing the changes in Kiwami and #6.

Did anyone have this issue on Yakuza 0 where the save screen would freeze?

Haven't come across it, does it happen very often to you? Maybe try and rebuild the database?

Anyone else getting an itch to play Yakuza but restringing himself/herself so they could go all in with Kiwami?

I'm fortunate that I'm still playing through 0 at the moment, else I'm sure I'd have the urge. I'm lucky that I'll have Kiwami for Winter this year and then Yakuza 6 for March. Works out well :)
Only curve ball is the next Japanese release. Depending what it is it could be anything from this December (incredibly unlikely) to sometime next year (depending what gets announced I'm guessing we get some sort of release either in March or December 2018).

Wow, you still plan to buy the new JP release even though we are probably safe on its localization? That's some huge dedication, Shadow.

Oh yeah. I've no doubt unless its a Ishin/Kenzan like release it'll be localised. I'm just incredibly impatient! No way could I wait for the official English release if we get a remake of 2 or sequel/reboot that uses the dragon engine. Since the engine will certainly be improved I'd want to play it as soon as possible!

Just a week and a bit to go. I've got TONS to play as it is, but I'll be putting most of it aside with Kiwami gets here. I really wanted to go back to zero and play some mini games, but I just don't have the time.

I would get the JP release too, but not understanding the story would leave too big a hole in the game for me, so I'll just wait like usual. :(

I dug out #4 back in June as I'd only made it about 20hrs through since 2012 and have been playing catch up since. I've played nothing else but Yakuza since then, taken me close to 7 weeks to get to 0 which I've just started and Kiwami is on pretty order. The race is on!

Do Kenzan/any of the spinoffs utilize him well?

You would've been better off posting like this....

"Regarding Nishiki in Zero
I want a spinoff where he never falls to the "dark side."
"

Instead I've just spoiled it for myself as I had no idea what was hidden. 😕

To be honest, it's spoiled in the intro of the game and the install screen.

It's a bit unfortunate that this happened for you but series vets have known this fact for many years now lol.

It doesn't affect the story of Yakuza 0 in any real way at least.
