Ok, that's a really interesting premise for the next game, really shakes things up And yeah, Daigo probably left the front door to the Tojo Clan HQ unlocked and the Omi just walked right in, the dope!
I knew I should have finished him off back in 1988 to be on the safe side
.
Quite like the design of the new protagonist as well, can't wait to see more of him, but (super spoilers for Yakuza 6's ending)
Just why is Kiryu strolling around Kamuracho in that teaser trailer? I assume its something just to show off the new guy, as for someone who wants to pretend to be dead walking around his old neighborhood, in that suit no less probably isn't the most inconspicuous way to go about it
.
2's trailer looked predictably amazing, the convo with Ryuuji and Kiryu is as awesome as ever, as was the brief snaps of other characters. Just one thing, who were some of those characters having an argument with Ryuuji toward the end of the trailer? I don't remember them at all from the original release. Then again, thinking about it, bar Sengoku I don't really remember that many Omi guys from 2 at all (unless my man Hayashi counts?)

Takasihma. Holy crap, I completely forgot about him. Guess replaying Yakuza 2 is going to be of great benefit to me, as I clearly don't remember it as much as I thought I did! Thanks
I was wondering who this guy was, personally I'm not a fan of the new look. Always liked Takashima's young but sophisticated look he had going for him.
Lol that's Takashima? He's the only Omi guy I remember aside from Ryuji and his dad, so I was confused that there was so much focus on this other character in the trailer instead of him haha.
I did not expect Yakuza to become some F2P smartphone game.... sigh.
I guess I'll at least have Kiwami 2 to look forward to. But man, I really wanted to get a true new Yakuza not some F2P bullshit.
Not sure how I feel about the Fist of the North Star game. I haven't seen/read the source material, but from what I've played of that Musou game and what was shown in that trailer, I'm not sure of it won't be a waste of time and resources for Yakuza team to work on such project. The world seems barren and empty and that's like the exact opposite of what Yakuza games were.

Huh? They revealed the new protagonist of Yakuza 7 and brief story details were revealed. Since part of the new protags story mentions that he gets out of a 17 year long prison stint in 2018 it means the game is due out next year (assuming its not delayed) as mainline Yakuza games are always based in the same year they are released. Expect to hear a bit more at TGS this year probably, I'd bet on a December 2018 release.
If its anything like Yakuza 6 though we won't get many details until this time next year, with the next few months mainly being about Kiwami 2 (which is due out this year in Japan), then they'll shift their focus to releasing more info on 7.
They fucked up with only announcing the f2p thing. I wonder how many fans had the same reaction as me and thought the series was this F2P game going forward.
Actually reading the other thread again I'm not sure if there is a new Yakuza console game coming or not... I'm kinda confused, looking at the character model for the new protag it suggests we'll get another console Yakuza game after the events of 6, but it sounds like only the online PC/Mobile game was announced?

It's just to introduce the new protagonist but yes we will get a followup to 6 in the future, probably announced at TGS and set for 2018. The online game is just the first game of the "new yakuza series". Luce posted a quote above where we got some detail on the new protag and how he's getting out of jail in 2018, from that alone its safe to assume Y7 is coming next year.

Normally the serie is set in a post apocalyptic setting, its still the case here but the game doesn't follow the manga. In this game we'll be in a city inside some giant dome shaped building called Eden, ofc we haven't seen how it look yet so we can't really tell how detailed it will be.

I've read the story stuff, but that sounds like it relates to the general story of this next chapter of Yakuza which includes the online game, rather than specifically being related to a new PS4 game. I'll wait for further clarification from Sega (probably at TGS), as right now I'm still confused as to what relates to the online game, and what might relate to this hypothetical new console game.

They want that moba money! They were probably testing the water with the in app purchases in Yakuza 6 (for the gang creator mode) and this was the next step.
I'm more interested in the plot, as I quite like the sound of what they got so far, but I'm not a fan at all of online games, which is why I'm hopeful the basic story etc. will be mainly explored in a future single player (console) game.
I honestly love how that's going to be the first impression a lot of new fans a are going to have of one of the most legendary characters in the series haha.
Sorry, I got nothing! Doesn't help that I already ordered the SE of Kiwami 2 this evening! They usually have nicely done SE's so I don't mind spending the extra money on them.
Yeah, it is a strange one. Sorta like when Shenmue Online was once planned to carry on the Shenmue story (well supposedly, nothing ever really came of that thing). What is interesting is that the new character has been modelled in the dragon engine for the reveal. Makes me wonder if they've ported the engine to PC for RGG Online or not... I do think we'll have a clearer picture once more details of Online comes out, as I'd be willing to believe the character model is intended for the next PS4 game (seems like a waste otherwise), and I can't remember the last time we didn't get a Yakuza game on a console every year, so I'm sure we'll get something next year.

Yup, out of all the localised games 1&2 are the only ones I haven't played (I don't count Dead Souls as I have no desire to play that).
I didn't the even click
Master
Daigo was the Daigo from later games till the very end of the Sub Story but I think that was because I'm a speed reader that mashes X and didn't notice his name till the end.

Yeah, I've seen the trailer and read the description, but honestly it just feels like a Yakuza style game in a world that isn't necessarily suited for that kind of game.
It just feels like it'll be a waste of their time and talent when they could've just worked on a completely new game with a new style of gameplay (a la Binary Domain), instead of making a FotNS themed Yakuza game.
Not to mention that one of the strongest aspect of their games are their stories and story telling, while I don't recall a single anime game with a good story.
Definitely interested to see how they flesh this plot out, not so much the revenge story but more the parts about the Omi Alliance running Kamuracho. Though it does sound like an excuse to write out some of the old guard and start again almost from scratch. Makes me wonder if they'll have any of the Omi guys from Yakuza 5 like Watase reappear, since
the leadership of the Omi Alliance was left in question at the end of 5
As for the new RGG project, what we know so far is we will get
*Ryu Ga Gotoku Online (f2p RPG) for PC/Mobile
*Shin Ryu Ga Gotoku (standard RGG game) for console(s); sega hasn't speciafied the platform yet.
The game starts off at the same point for both version but it will be parted as the story goes on.

And the new protagonist Kasuga Ichiban

Many thanks Gacha-pin, I was hoping you'd confirm the details on this one as I'd gotten my brain tied up in knots trying to understand what was announced!
Glad that the story is going to start the same on both the Online and console game, as I was concerned they'd divide the story up between the PC/Mobile online game and half on the console (which in turn would make it harder to follow).

Just from what's shown, it seems like Fist of the North Star is ahead of Shin Yakuza in terms of development, so my guess is that FNS will be this time next year and Shin Yakuza in 2019.

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking as well. FOTNS is looking like a 2018 game for sure. Be interesting to see when exactly its released (December like other Yakuza games? or earlier in the year?)
It's an interesting start. I'm skeptical of this new guy. He doesn't have the instant charisma that Kiryu and Majima have, but maybe he'll turn out okay.

Well, in IchIban's prologue it says that he leaves prison in 2018 so maybe the game picks up at this point.
Since Yakuza games play in the same year they release in.. (except 0 obvious) maybe we'll see it next year

Take it as a new spin-off following Kenzan and Kimami. Kenshiro's character is similar to Kiryu's.
Thank you for that clarification, man. It's good to know that they have actually confirmed a console game as well.
As for FotNS game, I guess that's an interesting way to look at it. But I would've just preferred if they had done that, instead of trying to make a Yakuza game in that world with that ugly art style. But I realize that I've been pretty doom and gloom about that game, so I'll stop talking about it for now and just keep an eye on it to see where it goes.
Put about 40 hours into Yakuza 0 so far, the game is amazing. Sunshine Club minigame is addicting af. Guess I have to add the other 6 Yakuza games to my backlog now... yay.
XD
A bit disappointing to see so many of the completion points are tied to earning X from all the different gambling minigames though because I'd willing play this to 100% completion but fuck doing all that.
