Yesterday I cleared the Decks for the Next-Gen

Stinkles

Clothed, sober, cooperative
I traded in my console hardware and software. No more PS2 or Gamecube. I still have to hang on the the Xbox for work reasons.

I used some of my store credit to pick up my Animal Crossing unit (DS) and grabbed some used copies of Lost in Blue, Nintendogs (for Mrs. Stinkles) as well as a copy of whatever MX game runs in 1080i (it looks sweet and bland).

I redid my cabling. Now my component switch box is almost empty. I wish the 360 had HDMI, then I could reduce the clutter further.

I installed Windows Media Center Edition on my Shuttle PC, hooked it up to a satellite box and networked it.

In November, I will mod my Xbox and dedicate it soley to MAME.

Now, roll on the new shit. The old shit is dead.

soul calibur 3? SOTC? shoudl ahve waited for those 2 .

but yea i did pretyt much the same thing as you. got rid of my systems i simply cannot get hyped for this gen anymore other than SC3 SOTC will probably be decent too.

I find your lack of AW: DS, C: DoS, and Trauma Center disturbing.

Yeah, the Gamestop guys said I should get Trauma Center, but really it's not for me. I thought about Castlevania. Maybe pick it up today.

I ended up getting about $50 a console I think. I had some really high-price games and accessories though, so I made a few hundred from that shit (hint, you get a lot for Zelda: Ocarina of time bonus pack on cube and almost NOTHING for Nintendo component cable!)

I can get by for a month on PSP, DS and the odd game of Halo 2.

It was a very cleansing experience. I reccomend it.

I never ever ever go back and play old stuff, so it won't be much of a loss for me. I only plan to keep maybe Halo and Halo 2.

I saw EB had a deal where you could get $70 for PS2 or Xbox for October. But my Xbox360 reservation is at Gamestop. Maybe the credit will be transferrable when the merger completes, or I guess I can just buy games/accessories at EB.

I can't believe you traded in your PS2 with all the amazing games still coming out for it.

A lot of us are done buying games for this gen. I have Zelda, KH2 and FF12 reserved. Only because I expected them before 360 launch. Zelda will always get playtime. I don't know about the Square titles though

Yeah, when I move to next gen, i do it completely :P I don't think even God of War 2 will find its way in my home.

You're preparing for next gen a whole year in advance? :p

In all seriousness though, I don't see why people are bitching, the PS3 and Rev are backward compatible for GOW2,SOTC and Zelda.

new consoles always seem excting until the inevitable post-launch drought when you start buying crap like maken x or ring of red just to have something to play. i'm keeping my current-gen consoles. though i think i'll sell a lot of my games.

Have fun w/ the headaches...

A modded XBOX is great, but it's not the best solution for game emulation. Then again, I guess it depends on what version of MAMEoX/MAMEX you plan on using. Regradless, the memory limitation is still there.

maken x wasnt crap!

I think I'll ask this here. Is it worth it for me to sell my gamecube now with a few games? The money would go towards Rev but when Rev comes out, I doubt i'd be able to get any money for the cube. I do have the entire RE collection on the cube but i'd doubt i'd ever sell that.

I could sell my pstwo but my backlog is just way too big, i'd have to finish some games first and I'll wait for the price drop for the ps3.

Or I could sell my N64 with 80 games. I'd doubt i'd ever play it again. I'll just use the Rev to play those, though, someone better find a way to hack the rev so i can play the no mercy and goldeneye roms because I'm pretty sure those won't be available.

I wish I could do this.

Gamecube: Has to stay for Zelda
PS2: Too many good games remaining, will stay until PS3
Xbox: We know nothing about what Xbox games the 360 will play, and I need XBMC

So for now all my old consoles will remain.

You probably wouldnt get all that much for a Gamecube now. Rev is a long ways off. Couldn't you just save for it?

If I were you, I'd take a good look at all the games I have, identify the ones I would never play through again, make a list or actually drag em down to a game store, and see what you'd get for them... cash VS trade in. If you get substantially more on trade in, you could ask for a credit/receipt and spend it at the store later on down the line.

and next gen is one year away, very foolish to sell now.

Next gen has nothing to do with PS2 still having good games coming out for it.

Sorry, next gen starts next month regardless if you like the games or not.

Remember there is a Buy/Sell thread. I am looking to increase my PS2 and PSOne collection, and I (as well as others on this board) would pay more than trade in value in many cases.

And here it is...

i'd recommend GAF or one of the auction sites over EB any day. Takes longer, but you don't get completely screwed in tradein, especially if you're looking for cash. Whatever i don't sell on GAF goes on eBay, or by that time i've realized that i should hold on to it for the time being.

Stinkles, do you work for a mag or website? I'm totally out of the loop, duder.

Nope. A dev.

And it wasn't about the money, it was about the process. Like a garage sale.

I did the same thing. My GC was sold to a co-worker, my PSP to a friend (I wasn't playing it at all), and I traded in my PS2 to Gamestop where I got a ridiculous amount of store credit ($108 for the system, $31 for Disgaea, $46 for Ridge Racers and Hot Shots Golf, etc - 9 games, a PS2, a couple memory cards, and a remote got me $260).

The only problem is I have to wait for the PS3/Rev to play Fire Emblem and Dragon Quest VIII (I suppose I could borrow a friend's system). My PC, Xbox 360, and DS will give me plenty to play in the next year.

I admire your willpower Stinkles. I should do the same.

How have you cleared out your component cables? Most things running through your PC now? satellite, DVD etc?

I'm in the opposite camp. Currenlty have an svideo switcher and will be moving up to component. Keeping the HDMIs free for PS3 and SkyHD.

I think he meant PS3, which is equally assinine. The HDMI port on my TV is fully reserved for my PS3, but until then I don't really give a shit about HDMI image quality - component/VGA/DVI is more than adequate. What I DO love about HDMI is form factor. One cable future!

I'm waiting for a receiver with a decent amount of HDMI ins and outs, and the ability to snatch the digital audio from my PS3 as it sends the image to the TV.

It's small and everything, but it's just completely stupid they did not put screws on the side of the plug. The thing is very easy to unplug by accident, and moving a 50+ kilos tv just to plug it back again is not what I call fun.

Flat panel for the win! But yeah, it should at least have those plastic "squeezy" snaps they put on DFP connectors a few years ago.

A reason why I like DVI better.

I actually sold my Xbox & my Cube a week or so ago as well. At the moment I'm selling all my Xbox games that I have left on ebay (10 out of 30 are already gone, and I already sold another 20 or so over the last couple of months). This gen is officially over for me, the only thing I have now for a month is the DS.

I won't be keeping a single game, screw BC. I want new stuff! :D

(I seriously miss my consoles though, a month will be a long long time).

Xbox might as well be "dead" now, and the Cube just has Zelda, but the PS2 still has too many games coming out for it to give up on this early. I'm not even thinking about the next gen right now. This month it's all about Soul Calibur 3 and Resident Evil 4. :)

...you traded your ps2 two days before the release of SotC? HEATHEN!

It certainly is.

If you sell your PS2 and GameCube. ;)

Kirby is waving at you. And damn he's a cute lil' one.

I do not even disconnect my systems till they can be emulated.*

*not that I like playing roms, it just saves shelf space without sacraficing play time.

I'm actually getting an Onkyo Reciever specifically for the 360, complete with a complete set of 7.1 Channel speakers. Its going to be interesting (audio wise) what the 360 will be able to support, is there any information on that? are they staying with Dolby 5.1?

Heres the reciever i'm getting by the way...

ONKYO TX-SR503 7.1-channel

Its great for the price ($299 but can get it for as low as $230)

You'll regret it in about three months. Then you'll go buy a PS2 again.

We've all been this stupid before. We learned from it. You will too.
